What are your take on the doctor who franchise? Now and the future?
Get woke, go broke.
Gave up on it entirely with the current doctor. Watched a few episodes and found the stories – not great. Too much PC in your face.
Previous doctor got too angsty and I watched the series for the fun. I think they simply got too in love with preaching and angst which I find a shame. Angst is easy. Humor is hard. Really sad as I loved Doctor Who.
I started losing interest after Peter Capaldi took over the role. I like him as an actor, but Matt Smith’s persona was my absolute favorite incarnation of the Doctor. Seeing the character take a complete 180 was very off-putting.
I haven’t kept up. I watched the first season of Jodie Whittaker and I think she does a fine job, but I absolutely hate the writing.
The entire franchise has always been hit-or-miss.
Eccleston’s season was okay.
Tennant’s seasons were great.
Smith’s seasons were half-and-half.
Capaldi’s seasons were mostly good but declined in quality over time.
Whittaker’s seasons are back to half-and-half.
i really stopped after matt smith… watched SOME of peter…but didn’t feel him and the woke train was starting up with him… it just went FULL SUPER WOKE after peter and thuis it was destroyed for me… (i pretend anyhtign after matt smith doesn;t exist at this point like how i pretend Disney star wars movie are a dream… of a passed out asokha tano in the world between worlds…
EDIT: oh and like how imma pretend Amazon LOTRO is not real and Star trek discovery is a dream of spocks had after drinking to much romulan ale and suffering brain damage!!!
(i have mixed feelings on Picard)
also lets not forget pretending the last season of game thrones never released!
Stopped after 1 season of Jodi, haven’t watched anything more recent still. I’ll go back and watch it at some point but it just felt off for whatever reason initially
See the thing is, I didn’t like Peter at first but he really grew on me. Jodie too is good, but I agree the writing brings it down entirely. The companions all I could not care one bit about especially when compared to Clara.
Have only ever seen Tennant episodes, I’m good with that
The writing just hasn’t been very good of late.
It’s the Daleks…again.
It’s the Cybermen…again.
I can get having franchise archenemies, but the only memorable “new” villains from the relaunched series are the Weeping Angels, and they’ve already gone back to that well too many times, too.
I liked David Tennant. Never really watch the series though.
Doctor Who, who?
Doctor Who fans in previous years turned me off to ever looking into that series. Sorry, not sorry!
Did you ever feel something along the lines of “I really loved GI Joe when I was a kid, but I’m not really interested in watching the movies because they will probably ruin my good memories from my childhood?”
That’s basically how I feel about Modern Who.
Maybe I’ll see it someday, but not anytime soon.
The same as I feel about any other franchise that incorporates contemporary social paradigms. If it’s executed in a smooth fashion, that doesn’t inhibit the growth of the story, it’s all good. Although, you could really make a point of that for any topic that gets jammed into a show/movie
My sister tried to initiate me to Dr. Who, with very little success.
However, she hates the latest season because of excessive PC.
And my sister is one of the most tolerant and inclusive people in the world.
We both love Snowpiercer. That is PC done right, imho.
I hope they learned their lesson.
The chance of a snowflake in hell…
Tom Baker is the best Dr. Who and Martha 4 Life
As for the new Doctors I stopped watching when Martha was gone.
I didn’t really get into it after Jodi became the doctor. Not really anything against her or the story, it just failed to hook me.
I think Tennant and Smith were the best of the new Doctor Who’s and Capaldi had his moments, but some of his episodes weren’t great.
eh, I think everyone hates the new Doc, but she does really great impressions of previous Doctors mannerisms, which I find interesting and fun.
