Ability/Loot Lag on North American Servers Despite Normal Latency

I originally posted this in general discussion to see if this was just me or not.

The number of replies indicated it wasn’t.

I agree completely with the quest and other lag mentioned in the original post.

Additionally, I’ve noticed lag immediately upon release of BfA, and has never really gone away.

If it makes any difference, I’m playing on an Oceanic realm, and have 8ms ping to the realm under normal circumstances.

In Legion, play was perfect.

In BfA, loot will often be laggy, mailbox opening items too. Spells will be cast, and just not fire off - this happens so often I now “double tap” to try and make sure they fire off. I am aware a lot of stuff is on the GCD, this isn’t being caused by that as far as I can tell, as I am sure the spell is available before I hit it.

Pre 8.1, opening a profession window was slow, now it’s fast, but other laggy functions (e.g. above) are now even worse.

Considering this started immediately upon the launch of BfA, and considering over that time I’ve rebooted everything many times over, and I see others constantly mentioning the same thing in game, I’m pretty sure it’s not me.

It is now getting close to becoming a frustrating exercise to log in and play rather than a fun exercise.

Please, Blizzard, can you tell us what is going on or going wrong, and please tell us when this can be fixed?

I went into the System settings tab in WoW and then to the Advanced tab. There I switched it from directX 12 back to directX 11. I had to do it and click “apply” two times before it actually stuck. This fixed all my graphical issues since Tides of Vengeance started.

I have an Nvidia graphics card

I have just tested switching back to DX11 having read this in another thread.

It has NOT made ANY difference to input, loot, and all other forms of lag for me.

Just trying to help.

Apologies if my post read wrong - it was in no way directed at you! I was just reporting to the fact that those fixes didn’t work for me, but am glad they helped for you!

I am having the same problem leveling my monk. I use Tiger Palm and my chi doesn’t show up until about 4-5 seconds later so I literally stand there and do nothing against a mob for 4-5 seconds until it catches up. And when I mount, the mount doesn’t show up either, just shows me running fast. Any other ideas to possibly fix this?

Played for 2 hours without issue today (just now finished). Updates for Dominos and Titan were installed before starting session. So, not sure if it was the addon updates or low traffic responsible for the improvement.

I received the expected answer from tech support, it’s not their fault and they want me to uninstall a lots of my apps that have nothing to do with this issue.

Blizzard has the worst customer care ever I ever experienced in the 20 years I been on the internet.

It has nothing do with addons friend, it’s something in their end that they don’t care enough to fix.

Same issue here. Extremely laggy combat while sitting at a solid 18ms ping. Issue started with 8.1.

Problem came back later in the evening, perhaps 6 or 7 PM yesterday. There was, again, a noticeable shard switch when the issue resumed.

tis the season for ddosing. would not surprise me if this was more of the same crap. we just had a large content patch. this is one of the more normal times for ddos attacks to occur. it would explain why the majority of complainants all state that their ping times are great but server is acting like its EQ in 1999.

could also be an infrastructure problem they couldnt see during ptr testing. with the amount of server switching a character does behind the scenes all it takes is a bit of a hiccup in the net code to make issues occur server side that arent super obvious to blizz but are very noticeable on our end. either way it sucks to deal with. im already pretty meh about wow now days. this isnt exactly making me want to jump in and group/raid/etc with the lag. it has been pretty consistent for me every time i log in, yet pings like everyone else is pretty much perfect :frowning:

Although most of my problems seemed to resolve themselves after Blizz resolved “login issues”, it still feels like there is a slight delay for me when activating spells/abilities, but it is at least tolerable now.

One of the stranger things that happened to me though was I had been sitting in an inn for a few minutes in Tirisgarde at the timberfell outpost and suddenly my HP starting going down and eventually my character died. There were no “hit” animations or anything, but as far as my HP bar was concerned, I was being smacked around.

Unfortunately, I did not notice whether I was showing in combat or not because I was too busy trying to not die (i.e. I was running around in circles trying to find out what was “hitting” me)

Yeah I just played today, in Tiragarde (where most of my problems were) and had significantly less problems. But it still felt like I was “fighting” the game for a smooth rotation and responsiveness.

I never see any kind of lag, I wonder if it’s realm based but then again I also am very adamant of making sure drivers are updated always. My System is also top of the line but seen others with similar hardware having lag which makes me think it’s realm specific.

My issue is holy power generators not accumulating until it’s magically full. There is either none or full and I can’t use any spenders until it’s at 5. Same with rogue and combo points. Sometimes engaging in combat results in zero damage done or taken. My latency sits around 33-34 for both. Plus the flying thing everyone mentioned. I purged my cache, W-T-F and interface folder. Still getting the bug. Reinstalling the game now.

If you’re having problems try going into the system > graphics > advanced and selecting your Graphics card instead of Auto select. You may need to exit and re-enter the game for the changes to take affect. I’ve seen a lot of players claim this helped their issues.

This works well, I was going to post the same when i saw this. A lot of systems are running with multiple video cards and this update seems to have reset which one WOW thinks is your primary. Unselecting Auto and choosing the primary card has fixed this for about 7 people in my guild so far. With them it was almost an instant difference even without restarting,

Just wanted to post and say that I’m having some of the same issues.

I’ll be in combat with this druid and combo points aren’t showing up, and then after a bit my entire bar is full of points many seconds after I have used the abilities to generate them.

I’ll mount up but the mount doesn’t actually show. I’m still in bear/cat form and running at mount speed but I can’t actually use any bear/cat abilities, despite the abilities still showing on the bar like I’m transformed.

Using a flight master and still being transformed with no flight master mount being present so it looks like my bear form is flying. Amusing, but I know it’s not intended.

It just feels like I’m experiencing really awful lag but my latency is showing as normal. Restarting the game seems to bring things back to normal but it usually starts happening again. I’ve tried changing how my video card is set like the post above mentions and that didn’t help with anything.

So blizzard, are you gonna fix this issue? Im seeing many posts about this and i have yet to see any updates on this. And before anyone tells me its on my end and to change settings, i never changed anything and never had any issues before patch. I have friends dealing with the same issue. Its literally unplayable as a rogue. Combo points dont show up until after 2-3 seconds.
