A way to do Player Housing Realistically

All the way back in Legion I remember having an idea for a way that Blizz could have implemented player housing in a way that wouldn’t trivialize the rest of the game, and would even inject more gameplay/content for people to do.

The idea was to have cordoned off chambers in your class order hall that were solo instances. Within these instances, you could customize and decorate the chambers, swapping out furniture and adorning the room with objects that represented you as a player/class.
For instance, the Warrior could have had the ‘Battlelord’s Hall’ where you could hang unique tapestries, mount weapon racks, display your armour on the walls etc. These chambers would have been unique to each class and could have allowed you to express your own tastes as a player. Maybe as a hunter within the ‘Huntmaster’s Roost’ you could have taxidermized versions of various mobs adorning the space, and the hides of creatures you hunted etc.

There could be basic furniture type items (tables, chairs, beds, rugs, banners, etc.) and then more class-specific pieces. And you could unlock more and more pieces by doing content. Raids, dungeons, PvP, world content, and vendors could all give their own unique pieces for your chambers, and the more difficult the content, the more Epic/Desirable the pieces. They could even distribute collectables to older content, encouraging you to go back, similar to battle pets (although more people care about play housing so it would probably be more engaged with).

And then you could show off your chambers to guildmates, friends, etc. by inviting them to a group/inviting them into your version of the instance. Hell, maybe they could have had a sort of micro holiday where you put your chambers up for competition similar to Trial of Style.

It probably would be relatively easy for them to implement too. They could just use a load of pre-existing models for furniture, armours, mobs, etc. and then just allow you to place them around the space. Maybe have a limit to the number of items you can place and then have a system where you can unlock more slots or something.

IDK why this sort of idea has never been implemented, not even with the Garrisons, and it would be great to have it be included with SL given that we are seeing a sort of return to an order hall like system with the Covenant Sanctums.
Give us objects/furniture/armour racks where we can show off our covenants architecture and personality. Give us a personal chamber in the Sanctum where we can express ourselves! With the return of class identity they are espousing, this would be a great time to implement it.
IDK, I’d love to hear thoughts on this!

Just put paragraph and structure and i will happily read it and give you a like if your idea make sense.

Only way it can work is if they implement this housing in Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdoms.
No one will revisit old content for a house.

The idea would be to spread it all throughout the game, but the newer content would have the lion’s share of what you could acquire.
Although, putting it into Org or SW would actually be more appealing now that you bring it up!
Have them be hearthable to maybe!

Only problem is, the Devs get hung up on the idea that there needs to be a “reason” to do things. so we get things like Garrisons in place of player housing.

Also, not a huge fan of having class based housing like battlelord’s hall for warriors and whatnot, my thought would be have several settings for housing that you can choose from. Though perhaps settings could be earned via leveling classes to get class themed settings. hmmm.

I would do it. Also most of Kalimdor and eastern kingdoms zone are old content.
By taking out expansion zone you are taking out grizzly hill and im sure that it would be one of the most popular zone for a housing.

I don’t immensely care about it either way, but this is very similar to dozens, probably hundreds of previous suggestions. Given that it’s instanced off anyway, it doesn’t matter where it’s located. Blizz just seems very uninterested in bothering.

Enough people want the idea, and I really dont think the resources would be too extensive, that I don’t see why they don’t. So keep on posting, I guess.

Just gotta bother them enough so they’ll listen. being annoying can get you places, sometimes you don’t wanna be in those places, others you do.

It’s old content but it’s in our world.
It’s not Pandaland or Dreanor, it’s not Northrend either. Current content like Naz or Zul’Dazar will not be visited after Shadowlands.
A place in Durotar, or housing in Azshara will do just fine.

Thank for restructuring you text OP.

I dont dislike at all the ‘‘class’’ themed housing.

And i agree that feature should be obtain by doing content. It would be the way to avoid the ‘’ stay in your garrison and never leave’’ that we had in wod.

I would like to raise pet-battles as a counterpoint; the system has little to no impact on the main game, but it was implemented none-the-less; but you are right in that they felt some sort of need to make the garrisons ‘do something’ for the core gameplay loop. Maybe they felt burned by people’s reaction to pet battles.

I’d love to see some sort of this be put into game, not necessarily tied to class. I only had that particular idea because of Legion’s focus on it. It would be neat to just unlock themes based on different races, factions, etc.

Have your whole house be Night Elf themed for instance, or maybe you love the Scourge and want a scourge themed abode. Maybe running old WotLK content could unlock pieces for it!

Waste of effort that could be spent on making the gameplay more fun.

The idea is too spend less time in cities, not more

I dont really get what you mean. Pandaria, Northrend, Broken island, Kul’tiras and Zandalar are all in our world. Also they are not more irrelevant now that is zone like Un’goro.

Outland and Draenor may not be in our world, but they seems as close because of the many portal and heartstone.

Oh yeah that argument again…

Like if the art team are the one doing the gameplay…

Player housing is fun for some people. The game isn’t based around what you and only you like.

That is why you would have new pieces spread throughout content. Do the dungeons/Raids to get that awesome new Fireplace, run Arenas and get a PvP banner, go explore the world to find decorations that are specific to factions throughout it!

And we would not put all of the QoL things that Wod’s Garrisons had. No mine, or herb garden, or auction house. you’d still need to go to capital cities and the world to do that. Maybe have one or two QoL options to choose from, but you would still need to leave.

It would be more cosmetic than anything A way to show off your accomplishments like mounts or tmogs.
