Long story short. We should have housing in Durotar, or Goldshire to start.
Blizzard refuses to put effort into something fun.
If its fun, it must be nerfed.
If you’re Alliance, prepared to be disappointed with all assets being human themed.
Do it like ESO does it. Simple enough.
They had housing ready to roll way back in the day. There was a portal on the south side of Stormwind in the canal area West of Old Town and East of the flight point. It was never implemented because they wanted to keep the major cities populated instead of having players slouch off to their individual home instances. I don’t think that philosophy has changed.
I would like to input that having the chambers be located in a major hub would probably be important.
It would give you another reason to want to visit/customize it. It is located in an area that you also have things that you may need/want to do.
Maybe have it be locked to capital cities for each continent. Like you could have it in Dal for Northrend or Shat for Outland. That way you can choose your favorite zones still, but continue to have incentives to regularly visit.
I worry that having it be located in zones like Grizzly Hills or so forth is that you and your friends wouldn’t want to go all the way there just to view the house. But if you have it in the capital city of your fave continent, you are still able to express your love for that particular place as well as have the convenience of a larger hub to access.
Idk how it would work if the player homes were inside the order halls
I don’t think my friends paladin order would look kindly on a demon enslaving warlock walking their halls
Don’t think the priests would like me much either
Yes!
I just want to be in a local place to the major cities.
Haha, an alternative is to have put it in Dalaran then! Maybe in the chamber where we displayed the pillars of creation
Add woodworking to the now defunct first aid secondary profession and make it where different items require certain trees from all expansions
As well as adding in blueprints and various crafting techniques for everything from wrought iron fixtures BSing items to alchemy recipes for oils and stains even secondary proff like archeology by having places to mount artifacts and recipes for more craftables dropping from specific dungeons etc
Make it dependent on all professions thus reinvigorating the need to travel and exploring by giving fun and engaging content to explore
Are you thinking that player housing is mainly an art team thing? They would have the smallest contribution to something major like that.
For the record, it is not about what I think is fun or not. It seems like every time Blizzard tackles a big project that the entire expansion suffers.
Because it requires effort and that word scares them.
I was thinking there should be more leisure stuff in the game, for when you want to kick back. Fishing is probably the only one, and it’s not that fun. lol.
I’d wager there’s a decent amount of people who would like more non-combat activities. Even games like GTA have them.
i like player housing in concept, really.
it’s one of those things that i always wanted
however, its something thats really hard to implement well
if you make housing too well, with too many conveniences, people will stay in their private dwellings too much, creating ghost towns in major hubs
if you implement it in a way that makes it effectively useless, it wouldn’t be utilized that much and at that point it seems to be kinda a waste of development time.
heck, they might as well just rework the garrison system and make it into a fully customized player base, i mean the garrison is just sitting there for most players now doing not so much of anything,
or, as opposed to instanced player housing, they could create real housing hubs on the map such as what FF has done, azeroth is huge, just make some limited houses available on the maps that everyone can own at an upkeep.
i think the technology is already there, it’s just that, adding player housing adds very little to the game, has its own risks, and is maybe not worth the effort to implement.
I never understand why people want this type of thing - don’t you have your own room, apartment, house in real life to decorate ?
Player housing could be fashioned in any area of the game they wanted; they’d merely have to instance it off to single houses or small neighborhoods (which has been done in other MMOs).
The items to customize the housing would be drops from open world and instanced content and crafted items. In this manner, housing would be purely cosmetic and give another incentive for players to engage in the content and professions.
The blocking issue here is Blizzard themselves. For some reason, they prefer to expend tremendous resources every single expansion on one-off, expansion-specific character progression systems and rejigging classes in the process. Personally, I think they spend far too much time on systems and not enough on actual long-term content features such as housing.
It reminds me of their hesitancy to have the transmog system in the game which created a whole new incentive for players to engage in content. I wish there was some way to convince them of the long-term value of these content systems to the game.

Tell them itll be neither fun or engaging content and they could find a way to time gate it as well as use it to increase MAUs
Blizzard would steamroll the process onto WoW so fast itd make even preach be impressed
Lol
Aye. They don’t seem interested in having activities and features that are simply fun, and that likely prevents a lot of stuff from getting created. I’ve actually not heard Blizzard use the phrase “Is it fun?” in a long time, when it used to be their mantra for everything they did (or were going to pursue).
It’s nice that there’s meaning behind everything you do in the game, don’t get me wrong. But I think they go overboard sometimes, and try to design these super complex systems that really don’t have any lasting power. They become another method to do what you were already doing before, like with garrisons. There was too much there that wasn’t necessary.
Another issue is these expansion features are only relevant for that expansion, which becomes obsolete when the next expansion arrives. In the case of Legion, you don’t even get to use the powers anymore – even though the quests are still tied in.
You want to know why we don’t have player housing? Here you go:
Anduin: Azeroth needs your help!
You: In a sec, your highness. I’m rearranging the magic books on my ogre bone coffee table.
Anduin: Hero, we need you now! The Horde are–
You: Bup bup bup. I think this new elekk skin couch clashes with my window dressing colors. What do you think?
Anduin: Hundreds of lives hang in the balance! You must co…
You: Hey, I should move the Dalaran wine cabinet over there, yeah?
Anduin: (facepalm) If you do this quest, there’s a new Stormwind miniature clock tower decoration as a reward.
You: (grabbing weapon and bounding off) I’m on my way! I hope it matches my Stormwind miniature mage tower decoration!
