Ya new stuff. I know some people would like the old stuff but everyone likes to have something others don’t.
So what does the brutosaur mount mean to you then
Absolutely nothing aside from a major annoyance when trying to get to the mailbox. Kuddos to those that got one for whatever reason at whatever price, I hold nothing against them.
Delete them.
I don’t imagine the devs are looking for ways to make people hate the game even more. But if they are, this is a solid suggestion, Clark.
I mean, this is entirely subjective. I happen to think that all but 1-2 of the Mage Tower appearances are goofy and lame, and I truly can’t understand all the uproar over this garbage.
The Flail+Shield that tanks got is SUPER cool, party because it is super cool, but also because it is UNIQUE. If you did what has become so very standard for Blizzard and just released them as a recolor … no one would care about it anymore because … now it’s not UNIQUE. Hey look – all of a sudden this MAGE TOWER everyone is dropping a #3 in their pants over doesn’t matter.
BECAUSE IT’S ALL ABOUT BEING SPECIAL.
As for the unique “challenge” of it, it’s pathetic to rely on something we ALREADY DID as the future of the game. Don’t ask for the OLD Mage Tower … ask for a NEW ONE. I think that’s fine. The game should be moving FORWARD, not backwards.
But the appearances? They suck. The Flail is amazing, the Werebear is awesome… but MOST of their appeal is because they’re UNIQUE. The models for pretty much everything else are boring af. People just want to BRAG.
That does nothing for the game. Let’s move forward. Make a NEW event, with models that ACTUALLY ARE COOL. The MT ones are lame.
The prestige came from overcoming a challenge, not from logging in during a special limited time window, IMO.
I have many of the appearances I wanted. But I think it sucks that nobody else can get them now.
I suppose I’d be less annoyed by them removing content if they added similar things to replace it. They don’t. All we get is less.
“My dog ate the router just as I queued, Blizz reimb me!!!”
IDC if it comes back I would just want it to still be as challenging and honestly it would just require WAY too much work for old used content. Making it scale to a certain level would be easy enough but they would have to redesign the fights to incorporate the change in available skills since then. It comes down to basically remaking it so in that regard just make a new version with new skins for SL or the next xpac.
I too wish I could drink New Coke flavor back during the 1980s, but I wasn’t around then
doesn’t mean I’m going to throw a fit for something that I couldn’t get because I wasn’t born back then
or I wish Pepsi would relaunch Pepsi Next again as I liked drinking that a lot vs regular Pepsi, but I am not going to rage demand over the internet for them to bring it back
same applies to any limited time things, in WoW or outside of WoW
There’s more to unpack from your post than seems at first take. The biggest of which is how Blizz wants to hide behind making “special, limited time” content … and then they keep NEGATING such content on a whim in the BMAH.
So either stuff is special, or it isn’t. And they keep proving that IT ISN’T so … they’ve dug their own grave on this.
I’m just tired of hearing about ppl wanting the appearances when 90% of them were UTTERLY LAME. As subjective as that is, you can tell when a design is cool and has flair, when people want it because it’s AWESOME … and when people want it just because they can’t have it/get it anymore. MOST of the MT stuff is HEAVILY in the latter.
And MOSTLY … WoW has bigger fish to fry atm. The collective bunching on panties over COSMETICS is … like… 9 millionth on my things to address in this game atm.
I agree. I think it would be great content to re-add back. People would maybe even need a reason to farm legion legendary like Luffa Wrappings to complete the mage tower.
That is not entirely true. The BMAH does exist but the items that show up there are things that were never meant to be limited or removed… it just happened via updates or changing their mind on something mid-game. Using two common examples, the 5m gold mount was announced mid expansion it was going away but at the start was not introduced as a limited time item. Same with the two proto drakes from Naxxramas in WotLK. It was never listed as limited time and when it was stealth removed people were annoyed.
BMAH puts items back in the game that were originally never listed as or intended to be limited time or are just very rare but still available in game. The Mage Tower as well as Challenge mode dungeons of MoP and WoD were released as limited time events and thus Blizzard does not include them in the BMAH.
This is not true.
They PLAINLY announced they were removing the Drakes for the two “undying” achvs … and it made COMPLETE sense. What’s the point of an achv you simply outgear?? (As Naxx 2.0 was the VERY BEGINNING of LK. It would have been trivial to get the Achv as the expansion went on)
I was in that race at the time, EVERYONE knew it was coming to a close. EVERYONE that got one knows full-well the merciless hell that it was to get that Achv and those Drakes.
And what an utter, complete STAB IN THE BACK it was to simply drop those Drakes in the BMAH. AFTER Blizz had been on record as saying “it’s ok to have rare things.”
The Swift Zulian Tiger should also have NEVER made it to the BMAH.
edit: In closing, I’ll post my FULL POSITION on this subject, as I’ve posted this before and I still stand by it:
EVERYTHING should make it’s way, in some form or fashion, to the BMAH after, say, 5 years. Maybe 7? Some “milestone” amount of time … let it go. It’s just pixels. If we dwell on the past, there will never be a future for this game. We need to CONSTANTLY be making new things to strive and challenge for. After so much time – put it all up. I’m fine with that.
But Blizz cannot be consistent with how they do things and THAT is what annoys me more than anything.
This item is the iconic and poster child for items removed via updates that were never meant to be.
They did not announce that until mid patch. It was not released or at least announced as a limited time item at the start.
Fact that so many want the mage tower back just goes to show how badly people want those skins and how much effort went into making them. No one could care less about the newer items because the same care didn’t go into them.
Blizzard removing content has always been a pet peeve of mine, all to make a small minority feel like special snowflakes. The only things I can agree to being a one and done thing are some meta achievements, titles, and arena seasonal mounts. Having transmogs be unobtainium isn’t exciting.
I just don’t see the value in shrinking the game. Removing content like this never really provided anything other than the feeling that there was a punishment for not maintaining a subscription during this time.
Which I did. I have everything they removed from the game that I wanted. But after that time is up, it’s just an emptier-feeling game, IMO.
Also, is the goal to make, say, druids who just started playing for the first time feel like crap just because they weren’t in the right place at the right time to get those werebear models?
If I were a new player and I saw that form and I learned that I could no longer obtain that form, I wouldn’t admire the person who had it, I’d be frustrated at the game for no longer offering it.
This is stupid for many reasons, but one of them is that they remarket this sort of thing all the time. They literally re-released new coke when Stranger Things got popular. You can get it on their store right now I believe.
For the sake of posterity, this is redundant. You, of course, are always speaking for yourself. When people preface sentences with “in my opinion” … whose opinion would you be giving? It’s redundant. Don’t even bother saying it.
There IS an element of “I was there.” This can’t be denied. I just don’t think it’s a solid argument when we also have an achievement system that time-stamps things. I have a Swift Zulian Tiger… so does this jackhole next to me. Well… you can look up our Achvs and see which one of us “got it for real” and which one simply bought it off the BMAH.
Have you never been a part of a “mount-off” or anything where people compare their collections?? It’s a HUGE part of the game to show “I was there, I got the cool thing.”
But I think you can maintain that element of fun without being duplicitous about it.
There is one on ebay right now for $200 if you really want it.
I honestly could not care less if they do or do not bring it back.
