So many people want the challenge again because reasons
Well here’s my solution:
It can be brought back, but it must have a “one time use consumable” that allows you to talk to the npc near the tower, to allow you to join it
One time queue
That one time use consumable, will be on the BMAH, starting bid 5 million gold or more, guaranteed gold cap
You can buy this consumable many times as you like
But it will be scaled to heroic raid gear quality item level (kel’thuzad and Sylvanas item level gear)
So when you mess up, you also lose your gold, a double whammy to remind you this is your consequence of wanting this challenge
There, a solution for everyone, it will still be unique by the players who owned it before as the consequences of you losing gold and failing it like it was challenging before, but will be bought back for the ones who desperately want it

No, if they did bring it back. Just have it with new rewards.
Or have something like it with new items.

Maybe someone should explain what the mage tower was and WHY it was so great. I tried looking it up but I keep finding the one in garrison.
Was it a place to store mogs? Did it teleport you places? Someone just explain WHY the mage tower was so great and how it worked.
edit- i found a site that says it was a 1 player thing… now I am more confused.
Just bring the mage tower back. Simple. I even have all the forms for druid as well.

It was a solo challenge that was spec specific. So each spec got their own challenge compared to the others of that class. Some specs across classes had the same challenge. E.g. tanks all had the same challenge, healers (minus disc) had the same challenge. They rewarded you an artifact appearance. If you are a druid you get different animal forms for feral and guardian. The guardian one was a werebear.
prot warriors and paladins got a flail appearance. They remain the only flail appearances in the game.

The Mage Tower was a challenge in Legion where every spec could run a pre-determined challenge in order to unlock unique and high quality weapon skins for their artifact at the time. Examples include:
Blizzard specifically stated that the Mage Tower would be removed at the end of Legion, and that the artifact skins are temporary. The reason they’re so coveted, however, is because Blizzard has badly failed on providing high quality weapons since these skins. So people want them back, a lot because they like the looks of course, but also with the issue of Blizzard really failing to provide weapon appearances of equal quality or challenges similar to the Mage Tower.
As to the OP, I don’t think the appearances should be brought back in any capacity, but I do hold Blizzard to a higher standard of actually providing quality weapons, which they’ve failed to do for two expansions in a row. We should get new solo challenges like the Mage Tower with high quality weapons or armor, not rehashing old content and letting Blizzard continue to be lazy.

Alternatively they just do the route they’ve done for previously unobtainable items. You can get the look, but not in the same colors or a less flashier style.

Not only that, but now you can mog your weapons into artifact skins from your other specs (provided they are the same weapon type. So you can’t mog the arms weapon over a 1 hander for example without doing some crazy glitches).
Sometimes I do enjoy having double flails when I do SMF.

There is that as well, of course. But if we had had a Mage Tower in BfA and one in Shadowlands here with weapon rewards of equal quality, we might’ve seen more Druid forms or more flails or more unique weapon types. But they as a company have really dropped the ball on weapon and armor designs ever since they stepped away from class tier sets for armor, and the weapons have just been pretty uninspired.
I honestly believe there would be less complaints if we had continued getting Mage Tower challenges with equal quality weapon designs. And that’s part of my frustration with Blizzard as a whole.

Mage tower was great. I was playing my DH havoc and getting a feel for max level content, got my mage tower boss to 7% or something like that. But never downed it and it went away as I was casually playing in legion.
I’m down for re visiting content like the mage tower and having rewards only available then and there. I see some mogs of Glaives running around I know I can’t get anymore and I get jealous and angry and grrr but hey what can you do? Which is why I like the idea of it coming back 
but keep the old rewards locked away and give us new shiny stuff

Part of me wished we got some torghast or maw themed weapons from TC along with the other rewards. Like every odd floor you get a transmog piece or something.
BFA did have the rank 4 essences, but they only affect the major one visually and these days you can only show them off in Timewalking.

If the mage tower wasn’t set up like it was no one would of liked it. Same as challenge dungeons all that. You probably dont even use 3/4 of the mog you got why so desperate? All they got to do is bring real tier back that looks good few good looking weps shields all that people be quiet people just mad since bfa mog looks worse than the homeless in westfall got.

Ok thank you for explaining, I get it now. Don’t ever take away mogs from those who earned them, but. if there were a new tower. with all new mogs… then maybe people would agree
Make new Mage Tower and CM style challenges with new rewards.

Bring back mage tower but you are forced to play your class as it was back then with your gear scaled down to end-of-Legion levels (2 legendaries too)
so the challenge is equal to when it was available
it’s dumb to limit the reward such that anyone who started after or didn’t play in that moment (idk, maybe some people fell on hard times, or cancer, whatever) will never be able to have them
