[A-RP] The Silver Hammer Community Project

During the Burning Legion’s invasion, when the skies were filled with fire and all hope seemed lost, bonds were formed that brought strength to countless beings across Azeroth. Among them, the Silver Hand reformed into a far greater engine of faith and righteousness than perhaps it had ever been; a union of not only many of the Silver Hand’s own, but of the Argent Crusade, the Blood Knights of Silvermoon, the Sunwalkers of Thunder Bluff, and the Vindicators of the Exodar, under a single banner.

However, now that the threat has ended, a new collective made of those who prioritize loyalty to the Alliance has arisen. One that speaks not from authority, but as a group of peers. A community of like-minded and faithful men and women, seeking to take the original teachings of the Silver Hand and build upon them. To train good men and women, and send them out to beat back the darkness not only of war, but of our hearts. Those who’ve taken part in this effort’s foundation have taken to calling these gatherings a unique moniker: The Silver Hammer.

For just as the hand was offered in guidance; wrought of silver so all could see its purity and splendour, so too shall the hammer be offered. A weapon to quell the monsters and demons who dare encroach upon our lands and loved ones. A tool to rebuild, after all that has been lost. For the hammer, long the weapon of the paladin, has longer still been the favored instrument of the blacksmith and the builder. With a chisel, it has carved the stones that shaped the cities of man and dwarf alike. With tongs and anvil it has shaped the iron and steel of industry and war in turn. With every hammer swung, a house has been built, a farm gated and fenced, and the foul and unjust laid to rest.

The idea of a paladin community isn’t new. However, on a server level, organized RP has diminished in recent years. It has been secularized between guilds and individuals, and as such, the Silver Hammer looks to offer up a new place to congregate and share all these different interpretations with the Moon Guard community.
One which will offer avenues such as mentorship/partnership programs, a compository where player/guild made lore can be ICly compiled and displayed publicly, D20 events inherent to the Alliance’s Light-faithful population in the aftermath of so much war and death. Pilgrimages, quests, teachings (both martial and philosophical/theological), knighting ceremonies, tournaments, and even combat events are just a few examples. All of these will be framed by the focus of being Alliance-oriented (sorry hordies and neutrals), with a healthy mix of free-form roleplay at IC meetings and varying tabletop/D&D style roleplay.

In the endeavor to rebuild after all the hellish wars that have consumed the good men and women of the Alliance, we look now to teach, to inspire, and to nurture the next generation of paladins.

The Silver Hammer’s primary focus as a paladin community is to offer a path by which a newfound squire of the Light can be paired with an experienced knight to learn both their ways of combat, and philosophy. Squires will be taught mount maintenance, complex battlefield skills, and the meaning of chivalry. A squire-mentor bond is the cornerstone of the Silver Hand of Old, and as such it remains the highest priority for this new organization. Though there are certain requirements and expectations that the squire must reach, many of the details are left to the individual Knight’s beliefs.

Listed below are those who’ve volunteered to act as mentors in the Silver Hammer, and as such, those interested in pursuing Silver Hand Knighthood are encouraged to seek these individuals out.

Located within the Cathedral District, the Scriptorium is a communal effort led by Gwenyth Dukes within the Silver Hammer dedicated to acquiring, cataloguing, and presenting the various interpretations of the Light’s teachings. Its goal is not to judge which interpretation is best (a pursuit better reserved for politicians and theologians), but rather a scholarly one to see all present knowledge of the Light and the Church archived for the public to digest.

The purpose of the Scriptorium cannot be fulfilled without its contributors, who are welcomed from all corners of the Alliance. From the well-established military orders, to the more clandestine elements of society, so long as they follow the Light’s call—no sect is too small to ignore. Even individual scholars, unassociated with any banner, are encouraged to bring forth their works for dissemination.

No knowledge should be left disregarded so long as it pertains to the Light, even concerning the forces who desire to see its majesty eradicated. After the Legion’s incursion humbled so many, it would be neglectful not to further our understanding of the Light’s recuperative nature towards the fel and the shadow. Be warned however, that texts advocating for dalliances with the shadow will be heavily scrutinized, if not outright ostracized.

The Scriptorium is considered an IC device. It is as easy as simply passing these “texts” in the form of links (I.E. google docs) concerning fanon OOCly to the Scribes, and while not forbidden, individuals are encouraged to seek out the Scribes ICly as well to facilitate roleplay representing that transference of information. This adds a level of authenticity and investment to the Silver Hammer project IC, and a communal approach to Light RP on the server.

Additionally, while the players who are involved in managing the Scriptorium are required to be impartial OOCly, it is important to note that the Silver Hammer is an Alliance-focused Light community. For example, the teachings of the Sunwalkers may not be welcomed ICly.

Those interested in contributing to the Scriptorium or have any questions regarding such should contact Gwenyth Dukes (Gwenýth in game).

Everyone involved with this project has an abiding interest in the lore, and the RP that comes from it involving Paladins, and specifically, the Silver Hand. And while indeed there is a leadership that attempts to direct and guide the RP within the Silver Hammer, it is the hope that those who join bring their own ideas into the fold. To be more than simply participants, but to encourage the very RP that they themselves so enjoy. In an attempt to pursue this, and to avoid a small council at the top making all decisions, the opportunity for one to become a leader within the community is always a present and reachable goal so long as someone is willing to become such a leader through their actions. This means hosting events, sending in writing to the Scriptorium, and otherwise being an example to others by creating RP within the project. Those who show they are willing to put the work into the group as such will be more readily able to decide it’s direction.
((Excited for this! Love it!))
For reference, May 2018's events are scheduled as such:

The 26th - 6PM

The Silver Hammer Gathering will be in Arathi Highlands, amidst the events surrounding the Reunification of Stromgarde. (Beredric's Server Campaign)

The 30th - 8PM
https://tinyurl.com/SHtourny (Hosted by the venerable Slick McTash!)

The Silver Hammer's first tournament to test skill and merit among the Alliance's prestigious paladins! (Held at Argent Tournament Grounds, proxy for tourney grounds in Dun Morogh)
A year ago I'd have never imagined RPing a paladin, let alone a paladin being my main RP character! Folks from the Silver Hammer made me fall in love with being a lawful good knight guy. They're a great gang of RPers and I've had a blast with 'em.
Glad to see an organized attempt at a Paladin server community. This seems to be well thought out, reasonably structured and aimed at providing a meaningful experience for anyone looking to get involved. The foundation is there and certainly one of the best I have seen, not overly gaudy or complicated.

All the best with this project, very much so looking forward to seeing how things go!
HMP represent! Varill #1!

Greetings! An RL friend and I are looking to get in to paladin rp and also find a good home for the end of legion and in to BFA. I really like this mentorship setup and hopefully will be able to be a part of it. With the Silver Hammer being a community, is there a specific guild that would be ideal to join for someone new to paladin rp?

Within the program itself there are several guilds that are present. What I would suggest if you do wish to take part in the group is to show up and view the guilds present. And if any of them catch your eye, to then seek them out specifically. It’s not required to be part of a guild to participate in this however!

Yes, a big thing we're trying to encourage with the Silver Hammer project is that it gives individuals on the server a place to show off their fanon concerning the Light, while also offering the same to established guilds. As someone who played more in the Cata/MoP timeframe, I've noticed that many guilds in particular have created a wealth of player-fanon concerning their character's (or guild's) own interpretation towards the Light.

The Silver Hammer is not an IC gathering of those guilds' representatives however, but rather of individual representation in a forum for mutual purpose. Said individuals' relations to a guild, no matter how big or small, is simply coincidental. However, we do encourage individuals to put forth their associated guild's player-lore if they feel comfortable with it being displayed in a public server setting through the Scriptorium. We're still debating how best the Scriptorium can be displayed to the public (as right now, it's a series of google docs), but our goal to have them readily available in an IC sense that can double as a guild advertisement of sorts.

I also want to make it clear, that does not mean we take someone else's fanon and put our name on it. We simply want to revitalize an interconnected paladin community on Moon Guard that transcends guild tags (while not ignoring them completely), and offer newer Light-faithful roleplayers a wealth of resources that they can utilize for roleplay.

i.e., An individual spends time creating writings for his/her own interpretations of the Light and its virtues, then offers that to the Scriptorium. Another individual sees said opinion, reads it over (with the IC conduit being that Scriptorium) and wants to connect with the original author in forming a discussion/debate around those writings. This could be extended to a guild-wide level, by which someone puts forth their guild's player-made teachings to be disseminated by the public.

Maybe that only appeals to a small minority of folks on the server, but I think if utilized correctly it can be very interesting for creating roleplay opportunities.
Here I was wondering if MG had a solid paladin community just the other day, and like magic, this appears! It's very exciting to see something like this starting up.

I've tried to reach out to two of the people via their Discord tags, and I hope to hear back soon and get an invite! I roleplay a paladin focused on training, so this is quite perfect.
Thank you for helping clarify it more for me, I appreciate that. My main goal in the guild search is to have the active group playing so the game feels less solo. I really do like the potential that the Silver Hammer project has for creating more opportunities and activities. I'll make a note of the May events and hope to be able to attend!
Does one have to enter into The Mentorship Program to become part of the community? I'm curious about the paladins who are quite a bit older and well beyond the typical age of squires. Those of us who have extensive backstories going well back into the Order of the Knights of the Silver Hand. How would those characters be brought into this new order?

Indeed they would. The mentor ship program exists for both those who wish to have the squire RP experience bonded with a Knight, or are new to Paladin RP in general and wish to get their feet wet with the lore.

However the group itself, while focusing on the mentorship and teaching heavily, is a collection of Silver Hand Knights. Both new and old. So those who have already completed their trials of Knighthood are more than welcome to come and participate.

Just to clarify, you can be a part of the overall community without necessarily being a mentor/squire. The meetings are open to the public because of that, though obviously its focus is for Light-faithful characters. The community's major focus is the mentorship program, as a way to offer an avenue for characters to pursue what many see as a traditional cornerstone of Paladin RP.
The Silver Hammer is eagerly looking for characters who are interested in pursuing a squire-mentor bond! We've multiple mentors ready to take you on!

Please contact any of these individuals through Discord so we can help pair you with someone! (Or make your presence known at the upcoming Silver Hammer meeting on the 26th of this month.)

Shame this is Alliance-only or I'd be interested in this, as my character is much more typical Paladin than typical Old School Blood Knight.

You are more than welcome to roll an alt in your free time! But yes, Alliance-only... unless you decide to abandon your traitorous affiliation with Horde. ;)

May 26th, 2018 The Silver Hammer Recap:

Hosted by Kerdic Lothinil in the Arathi Highlands, the topics of discussion that arrived were as follows:

-Johnathan Beredric, the current Lord-Commander in the campaign to reunify Stromgarde, spoke of the developments in the Highlands as they've progressed such as the fall of Northfold Manor and the eradication of Galen's Fall. For paladins eager to take up a just cause, the battles continue to rage on (at least until the 29th) in the Highlands with the Alliance camped at Refuge Pointe.

-Kavid "Slick" McTash spoke of the Silver Hammer's first tournament to be hosted on the 30th of May (4 days from now) by where paladins, squires, and the Light-faithful will compete in trials of lance, arms, and Light. Monetary prizes will be awarded! (Slick's still looking for volunteers to help him coordinate, please send him a tell if interested!)
-No new squires have yet to be assigned, though 4 new mentors have stepped forward with interest:

Owaeran Umbardacil <The Brighthaven Brigade> (Owaeran)
Durghan Thunderaxe <The Dwarven Vanguard> (Dûrghan)
Hildira Phillips <Hollowlight Ventures> (Hildira)
Obrahiim of Andorhal <Remnant of Lordaeron> (Obrahiim)

Please encourage would-be squires to look into the Silver Hammer! This is a collaborative effort to provide a conduit for even guildless characters to start on their path to paladinhood!

-Foghas brought up the relic recovered last month from the depths of the Plaguelands. After an intense discussion, it was decided to return the relic to its previous owners back within Light's Hope.

We'll be meeting again near the end of next month. Look out for calendar invites, and let me know if you don't see your name for either Kavid's event on the 30th or next month's gathering!

Thanks!
