Cult of the Wolf
THE SCYTHE IS OUR SALVATION
Cult of the Wolf
Cult of the Wolf is a werewolf style worgen RP guild, based on the Wolf Cult from worgen lore. Themes include living and hunting as a pack, shapeshifting to navigate the city, and sharing the curse via bite with willing aspirants. We are a heavy roleplay guild now on Moon Guard, running wild and free in Duskwood since October 30th 2016.
Lore
In lore, the Wolf Cult is a secret organization comprised of the Silverpine and Duskwood packs of worgen. It is seen first in the Gilneas starter zone, and explained in detail in the five part WoW comic Curse of the Worgen, and the prequel Dark Riders. While the foolish believe the worgen gift to be a curse, this order believes it is a blessing, and embrace its strengths and the wild. Led by Alpha Prime - the first worgen - they orchestrated the attack on Gilneas, and make up the sentient worgen you see attacking the city, biting as many as possible. After Primeâs death, much of the Wolf Cult has gone into hiding in the woods as the Bloodfang and Nightbane, and our humble group is part of the latter in Duskwood. We embrace the âPurityâ, share with those ready to receive, and shapeshift to reach more of the lost and confused. The goal; to live as we were meant to, to grow as a people, and to one day take our place as the apex predators of this world.
Structure
Members are required to have Discord and TRP3, be 18 or older, and be a worgen or want to become one. Rules include act mature and respect players, do not ERP with minors or in the open, and respect and follow lore to the best of your ability. Events are held throughout the week and include a mix of hunts, rituals, campaign events, and casual RP.
The fiend of which I write is the Worgen. Old, rural folklore may hearken to these creatures. For what farmerâs child has not heard tales of beastly wolf-men stalking the fields and marshes outside his village? And truth may hide in such talesâperhaps they are warnings against the Worgen, veiled as myths to frighten us. But before such tales are dismissed, let me now assure the reader: Worgen are real. They may not be from our world, but avenues exist between their home and ours and powerful magic can pull them here. Such chants are best left unuttered. For where ever the Worgen tread, they bring terror and bloodshed with them.

Lore Foundation
Cult of the Wolf is based on the Wolf Cult from worgen lore, described in detail in source material such as Curse of the Worgen, Dark Riders, and ingame quests. The Cult believes the curse is a blessing, calling it âThe Purityâ. Under their leader, Alpha Prime, the cult orchestrated the âoutbreakâ in Gilneas, and thrives to this day in Duskwood.
Wolf Cult in Lore
The Wolf Cult was founded by the first worgen, Alpha Prime, starting in Gilneas. He and his followers see the worgen curse as a blessing, even calling it âThe Purityâ, and follow Alpha Primeâs book âPurity of Essenceâ as their guide. The cult spread to Gilneas and Duskwood, initiating willing humans that wanted to become worgen, and growing in number, and looking for the Scythe, and using human form to sneak through the human world. When they were large enough, they didnât need to hide any more, and orchestrated an attack on Gilneas to bite as many people as possible. Alpha Prime died in the aftermath, but the Wolf Cult lives on in the form of the Bloodfang Pack in the north, and the Nightbane Pack in Duskwood. The guild is a small pack within the Nightbane Pack branch.
Wolf Cult in Roleplay
Curse of the Worgen and Dark Riders reveal the Bloodfang and Nightbane packs respectively to be two sects of The Wolf Cult, people who have elected to become worgen and live in the wild, choosing it over city life. They see the worgen curse as a gift, even calling it âThe Purityâ, and choose the pack lifestyle over city dwelling. They relish the hunt, and use shapeshifting to walk the city unnoticed, looking for more recruits worthy of earning the bite for themselves.
Wolf Cult as a Guild
As a group within the Nightbane, the Pack Redmane (Cult of the Wolf) lives in Duskwood, operating much like the original Wolf Cultists did, as a sub-pack under packleader Marus. We embrace the curse, running and hunting and living as a pack. We share the bite with the willing in initiation, and follow the Purity of Essence as our code. We shapeshift to keep our worgen identities secret, and use our human identities to walk the city.
Canon Worgen
The cult was created on the foundations of the canon worgen, as portrayed by the game and its story. While we are inspired by werewolf cinema and folklore, we strive to maintain canonicity to the best of our ability, with room for creativity. Worgen are portrayed with golden eyes, but with several other options available. The race does not, however, grow a tail. Wolfsbane is deadly, the curse is spread through bite and blood, humans and kaldorei can become worgen, shapeshifting is gradual, and all worgen hunt. For what it means to play World of Warcraftâs lycanthropic race, click here.
Worgen Savagery
Rage courses through the worgen soul. As a worgen, you are a child of Goldrinn, the god of the hunt, war, savagery, and bloodlust. How will you channel this rage?
Balance is a constant struggle. Elune may aid you, but it is up to you to balance Wolf and Man, to utilize this gift, and reach your greatest potential.
Hunger can be sated for a time, but the wolf must hunt. Take to the forest on your own or with a pack at your back, and sate your thirst together.
The Curse
Shapeshifting can be a vital ability to worgen navigating urban environments unnoticed. Especially in Stormwind and Kul Tiras. It also takes a moment or two to complete, and may vary in discomfort and speed between characters.
Transmission of the curse can be done through bite or blood. Kaldorei and Humans are able to be turned, and have equal potential as children of Goldrinn.
Perks and Weaknesses come with the worgen condition. Worgen possess superior strength, speed, senses, and agility, far greater than a regular humanâs. They are resistant to diseases and conventional forms of undeath, and can even sense auras (Wolfheart pg 267). But donât get cocky⊠Wolfsbane is deadly, and a bullet or sword can be used to kill you, silver or otherwise.
Structure
Cult of the Wolf is a heavy roleplay guild valuing quality over quantity, with a slow immersive progression experience. We adapt canon lore on the Wolf Cult into our guild ranks, rules, and more. Requirements and Rules are in place to ensure a quality and safe environment, and we remain worgen only (with exceptions, see below) to preserve the pack atmosphere. Ranks are gained through event requirements, rites of passage, and rituals. Leadership is called âPacklordâ, as in alpha of this group of nightbane, while âPackleaderâ is held by the npc Marus, alpha of all nightbane.
Events
Events are held throughout the week and include a variety of hunts, campaign events, and casual RP. Casual events include Lore Night or Den Meetings, Story Events include campaign nights and hunts, and server events may include a Stormwind lore night and a Darkshire bar night. All drawn from lore and on worgen culture. See the ingame calendar for what is coming up, and keep an eye on discord updates for this weekâs events.

Key Locations
The Den
Following the way of the wolf, the pack makes its home in a cave in southern Duskwood, within the depths of Nightbane territory. Any that manage to slip by the Nightbane Stalkers and Shadow Weavers will oft be met with hostility, as the pack seeks to protect what and who they hold dear.
The Village
While many believe the rumors that nightbane are no more than dogs, nothing could be further from the truth. Brightwood Village, protected by Fenros and his Dark Runners, can be found within the living territory of Brightwood Grove, nestled against the mountains to the east against the Twilight Grove. Here, the pack hosts meetings around the fire, and are cautious but otherwise welcoming to outsiders.
Darkshire
While the pack officially does not bother Darkshire, rumors say these cultists walk among the common folk unnoticed using their human form. Some are said to dress as commonfolk, adventurers, or even locals like Night Watchmen, now led by Watcher Ladimore. Though the SI:7 have taken an interest to the town, this has yet to be proven.
The Twilight Grove
The pack can occasionally be found in the Twilight Grove, considered holy ground to the pagan group. The tree serves as a gateway to the Emerald Dream, where the all-alpha Goldrinn resides, and the Moonwell is a font of Elunic power used for times of relaxation among the otherwise high-strung and aggressive cultists.
Raven Hill
The remains of the only other town in Duskwood is often avoided by the cult. That is, until the mad scientists now occupying the ruins capture one too many Nightbane for their murderous experiments. After the capture of Bloodeyes, a nightbane woman, the Redmane pack in particular has become increasingly hostile to the followers of Oliver Harris and Vassandra Stormclaw, and will at random launch raids to free their mindless kin.
The Rotting Orchard
Close by to the packâs den lies the Rotting Orchard, a collection of abandoned farm houses now home to the Shadow Weavers of the nightbane pack. Here, the nightbane sorcerers led by Denmother Nefaru appear to study the dark arts. The pack will occasionally entrust relics and magical artifacts to the Weavers for care and study, a safe distance from the packâs living quarters. Prisoners are also taken here, kept in the dilapidated barns, whose stalls serve as holding cells, until a decision is made on their fate.
Rolandâs Doom
East of the Orchard lies Rolandâs Doom, where nightbane braves can be found and where the nightbane leader Packleader Marus resides. Rarely does the pack venture to the nightbane âheadquartersâ, though the packleader is free to summon the pack for briefings or meetings between packs.
Hierarchy
Hierarchy is a common theme in both pack cultures and cult organizations. Being both, it is no surprise that the Wolf Cult of World of Warcraft lore involves aspects of initiation, rank progression, and leadership. We see this ingame with various NPCs labeled Initiates or Packleaders, and again throughout the comics, which even depict the Wolf Cultâs rites of initiation. With such details available, we have adapted this lore into the structure of the guild. New members will start at the bottom as an Aspirant wishing to join, and will climb rank through various challenges including both guild events and character growth.
Joining
Interested players are invited to join our guild discord server, which includes more info on the guild and the lore behind it. Once you are ready to join, use the template in the character-intros channel to post an intro to your character. This is your application. Once accepted, you will earn the rank Applicant . Applicants are to attend Lore Night , where Raedolf meets the character and retells the true story of the worgen. Once introduced and onboard, you become an Aspirant . Once onboard, attend the Righteous Kill , a rite of passage for aspirants. This serves as an introduction to the storytelling system. Once complete, the character will be promoted to Initiate at the next Den Meeting.
Member Ranks
Once initiated, attend the Pack Hunt, embracing instinct and family to bring down large prey. Once complete, you will be promoted to Cultist next Den Meeting. As a Cultist, your challenge will be the Cult Raid, where you must aid the pack in fighting for Duskwood, and be made a Packmate. As a Packmate, prepare for a pilgrimage to Goldrinnâs shrine, and for the Ritual of Balance. If successful, the packmate will return wiser and stronger than before, and be promoted to Bloodletter next Den Meeting. Even as the final rung of the Cult hierarchy, a Bloodletterâs duty is not over. Gifted with experience and and knowledge of the Purity, protect the pack, retire to the wilderness, or even take up the mantle of Elder.
Officer Ranks
Officer ranks include Bloodletter, Elder, and Packlord.
Style
Our goal is to provide the best worgen pack experience possible, using the themes and canon lore above to form an engaging story. Most if not all scheduled guild events will be for casual or d20 roleplay, with unscheduled content between events. TRP3 is a must, and character help is available. As a guild based on WoW antagonists, themes include violence, criminality, nudity, drug use, and even darker antagonists. We use the Nightbane areas of Duskwood, and use human form in cities to avoid being recognized as terrorists cultists and criminals.
âThe curse more than heightened our senses. We see things that no normal human can. Some call you LoâGosh, though that they use a Taur-ahe title for you I find ironic. Still, it is but another name for Goldrinn, as we have come to know our patron spirit since our transformation. I saw the aura of that spirit around you the first moment you arrived at the banquet, and even though you gave every indication of crushing our hopes then, I still held out for our chances because I could see his touch upon you as if it were your own skin. . . .â
- Genn Greymane, Wolfheart -
You look familiar. Were you on WrA or ED?
We were indeed! We began on Emerald Dream, once part of a worgen guild there in 2015. As we learned more about lore, we wished to roleplay canon worgen, not the stereotypical cursed human. Aspiring for something more, myself and five others founded âThe Whitefang Packâ on October 30th 2016, and moved to greener pastures to Wyrmrest Accord that winter. Once a simple pack under the command of the Cenarion Circle, the pack has endured many hardships and adventures on its way to joining the cult in Duskwood a year later, and taking the name The Wolf Cult in 2019. When the need to transfer arrived, we found the name was already taken on Moonguard, and have taken a similar name, used in the Wolf Cultâs Hearthstone card: Cult of the Wolf.
Do you accept non-worgen?
To preserve the pack theme, all initiates must be worgen. A pandaren or gnome would not be safe or keep up well on the pack hunt, after all. The exception is humans or kaldorei wishing to be bitten. In this case, when bitten, your worgen toon will be considered the main and will gain rank, while - in the case of a kaldorei-worgen - the kaldorei toon would be given the Cultist Alt rank. For other races, see âDo you accept alts?â
Do you accept alts?
Alts are accepted! In addition to our member ranks, we have â(Cultist Alt)â and â(Council Alt)â for member and officer alts respectively. Once a member has joined, and reaches Initiate rank, they may have as many alts in the guild as they wish. While the main toon must be a worgen, alts may be any race and class. However, only worgen can ICly join the pack itself, while alts are welcome to serve as allies to the cause, antagonists, or completely OOC.
How do Kaldorei-worgen work?
In Curse of the Worgen, we are shown kaldorei-worgen are very possible and very sentient, such as Alpha Prime. Any Kaldorei can be bitten, and become a worgen. While we have yet to see a kaldorie-worgen shapeshift in lore, it is unknown whether they canât or wonât. In the case of player characters, to make such characters playable, we hold that shapeshifting is possible but difficult. In this case, both a worgen toon and kaldorei toon would join the guild, with the kaldorei toon as the alt.
Can I play one of the original worgen?
While human-worgen have only been on Azeroth for just over a decade, the worgen race itself dates as far back as the War of the Satyr, over nine thousand years ago. To play one of the original group - either a Druid of the Pack or one bitten by them - an extensive knowledge of ancient kaldorei lore and worgen lore is suggested, and allowed on a case-by-case basis.
I don't know anything about worgen, can I still join?
Of course! We do not expect anyone to know everything right off the bat, nor do we require you to go read anything. While lore sources are available for free, all lore is taught in-game and in-character.
What level do I have to be to join?
Level one! Our joining ranks are Interested Player, Applicant, and Aspirant. These have no level requirement, and will give access to the guild calendar, events, roster, and discord server. Be aware that roleplay in Duskwood is made easier at mid-level, and other events such as hunts, campaign nights, and the Ritual of Balance would be difficult as a low-level.
What is the age requirement?
Cult of the Wolf is rated 18+ for themes of violence and nudity. Rituals involve drug use, and events involve anarcho-primitivist ideologies. All of which we canât expose minors to on a good conscience.
Bite me!
See âDo you accept non-worgenâ for biting details.
Have a question? Ask in the comments below! Or message me on discord with Redmane#1794.
âAnd you shall know, Halford Ramsey. All will be revealed to you. The truth of the worgen. What they are and where their journeys have taken them. Truth, I say. Not myth or superstition. Only in the wake of these revelations will I ask you to form your own judgements.â
