A plague of yaks upon thee

We need to talk about the large utility mounts: brutosaur, yaks and mammoths… but mainly the yak. They are everywhere and tbh I think they were probably a bad idea to begin with. In the Valdrakken main square at any time there is up to half a dozen of these just standing around. It really breaks the atmosphere having these low res legacy mounts effectively outliving much cooler looking modern mounts.

I also think it’s pretty poor form that people can finish an event, mount their yak, repair, and then mount their drake and fly away. It’s not right that you can do that. Why even have merchants at all?

These mounts need to be nerfed in some way, just as (thankfully) the waterstrider was effectively nerfed a couple of years ago. Here are some suggestions:

  • Tie the cost of these large mounts to server inflation, so the cost of them increases as the economy goes up.
  • Think of the merchants! A large utility mount cannot be mounted within 100 yards of a merchant that supplies the same service… or the merchants attack you.
  • Owners must subscribe to the mount, paying a yearly fee of some kind
  • They can only be mounted once per day / week
  • Home sick! They can only be mounted in the expansion from which they came

This is a bit of an aside but I also hope there is a cool down or some other type of restriction on changing from dynamic to static flying in the old world and back again otherwise people will rush to an event then go to static mode so they can hover out of reach and go afk etc and we’ll be back to that annoying situation again.

Finally, yes I have no doubt this is a controversial view. Please don’t hate… although tbh I do hate the yak so maybe it’s justified

aside from the transmog yak…do people actually use these mounts?

Transmog and Vendor in one.

No not really to be honest instead we need to talk about the critically acclaimed MMORPG…

Final Fantasy XIV?

If you don’t like the yak, don’t use it. Don’t dream up punishments for people who do like theirs.

Considering what you had to pay for these mounts?

This just comes across as someone pettily jealous they can’t scrape up 200k or worse 2 something million for their own Bruto/yak. These are already gold sinks, and at the time of their release were supposed to cost the gold cap or near it.

The anima reserve quest in SL still rewards 1k gold as of this post, just take a few alts through it a day and you can easily get your own yak in timely fashion. or invest in Writhebark and DF herbalism, or literally anything else would be a better use of your time and gold than making this thread.

I have no problem with these mounts and wouldn’t change them, but it seems like they could be restricted in rest areas to encourage you to use the local shops and not alter the “feel” of the city without affecting them elsewhere. But that seems like it would be a big quality of life nerf so I’m not actually in support of this idea.

Ah Sunday. Love it. I really don’t see the problem with the mount. If I afk for a minute I’ll pop the mount so people can use the tmog option while I’m away. I’m fine with a restriction of sorts with not letting them sit on top of mailboxes.

If anything they need to make more of these mounts so that people can choose the appearance that best suits them.

That way there would be less people using a yak. Maybe theyre using a worm. Or a dragon.

Why? You say it’s not right but provide no reason other than you don’t like it.

I don’t like ketchup on hamburgers therefor everyone who orders their hamburger as such must pay a tax.

They could just add more mount utility slots (like they did with the waterstrider). So if you own the Yak you get two more slots (one for vendor and one for tmog) and then all of your mounts would have those options (as added hotkeys or something) and you wouldn’t always have to use the yak anymore.

Transmog yak confirmed as new allied race.
