Wow’s getting a new expansion: The War Within. Coming on August to October, 2024
Bliz says:
“Explore beneath the surface of Azeroth, an expansive world exists, fraught with danger and waiting to be explored.”
So, then. Where are the Skaven? Hey Bliz did you forget the Rat-Folk?
The Skaven, sometimes known as the ratmen, the Ratkin, the “Children of the Horned Rat,” or the “Underfolk,” are a malevolent and diabolical race of large, intelligent, humanoid rats that inhabit a massive, inter-continental, subterranean empire.
The Skaven as a whole are a cruel, treacherous, and highly numerous species that have since spread their loathsome corruption to the farthest corners of the Known World. From deep below the earth, these vicious scavengers have built a vast underground empire, whose military power and incomprehensible numbers have the potential to destroy all of Azeroth in a seething tide of violence and anarchy.
So Bliz. I ask again. Where In your new underground expansion are the Rat-Folk! Huh? Huh? We want to play as Skaven!
Question: If Bliz gives us Ratfolk to play as, would they be Alliance or Horde?
PS: For those who are not familiar with the Skaven/Ratfolk fantasy creatures. Please google “Fantasy Skaven,” and or “Ratfolk.” Check out the description and the images. So we can have an informed discussion.
Thank you.
After seeing a lot of TWW models, I wouldn’t be surprised of we got Kobolds as an allied race somehow. Like, a tribe of them that broke away from the Kobold-King of whatever.
They have a suspiciously large amount of customization, and what appears to be the first-ever female Kobolds we’ve seen.
The models are simple enough to look like they could be equipped in armor, unlike a lot of npc models.
They’d even have racial mounts already figured out, these saddled moles that we’re getting in TWW.
Nerubians, these bipedal humanoid ones, empowered by Xal’atath or whatever, are 100% going to be an allied race, I’m calling that one now. Similar to how we got Nightborn in Suramar, they’ll probably be an enemy we get on good terms with first.
Wow Kobolds just don’t look the part. Rat-Men and Rat-Women are big scary looking creatures. They range in size from 5 feet tall to 8 feet tall. The big bruts of the race are closer to the bulky Wow Dragon-Kin guards. Playing as the Rat creatures would be fun.
The Skaven would overwhelm the forces of Azeroth in about a month. And that’s if they spend 25 days of that month in-fighting as per their usual arrangement.
DM: We don’t get to play with Nerubians in this expansion. No. And there’s no plans right now. From what I understand, playing as a Nerubian would be a tough thing to kind of animate because they have so many limbs and whatnot.
Hmmm. You have a point here. Ok then lets call the new rat-race something like Ratoids. Or Ratishes. Anyways you get the idea. That way, no lawers needed. Then Blizz can give us Skaven…er…I mean Ratoids. Hmm… I’m not too crazy about those new names. So maybe some forum member can come up with a really good sounding name for Wow Skaven.
So what would be a good name for Wow Skaven. Lets take a look at what the Skaven are.
Well They are human size or bigger. They appear as huge Rats. They have an insatiable thirst for blood and carnage. They are vile and vicious reveling in causing chaos, mayhem, and violence. Creating atrocities against all life forms is their goal, even to the extent that they are perfectly content in victimizing their own species. Skaven are veracious eaters. Their culinary preference is everything; Skaven will eat anything, vegetable, fruit, meat, with a preference for human meat, and anything else that walks the earth. When times are rough and food is scarce Skaven have been known to turn to cannibalism.
I mean, what is there not to like about these monstrosities. Some have asked; are Skaven evil. Well. Lets just say, like yeah.
So ok, now that Skaven have been defined lets have some really cool Bliz Skaven race names. What will Wow Skaven race be named?
My friend, you seem new to Warcraft. In Azeroth, those are called Kobolds, and we’ve quite rightly been steering away from cultures being depicted as inherently malevolent - because that’s just racism. There’s rough folks here and there but everyone’s just trying to get by at the end of the day.
The kobolds are tunnelers who have touched upon something deep and dark - something that shouldn’t have been disturbed. They were candles at all times to keep the creeping dark away - and it’s the possession they fear losing the most. They’ve been relegated to the crevices of Azeroth by a lack of resources and persecution (the alliance treats the “bestial races” like they’re animals. This only started to change when the worgen were accepted) They have a rich culture and do quite a lot with wax sources and underground agriculture, and most of the caves you see in the old world are Kobold constructed!
