A new, no timer, endurance based M+

For those that want to do challenging dungeon content, but dislike rushed timers and aoe strats.

Give us a second font of power that converts our key into an endurance run

  • There is no timer. Take as long as you like and strategize

  • To compensate, everything hits really hard. You will need cc, you will need kill order.

  • The only way to downgrade your key is not killing the last boss / finishing the run

This mode should de-emphasize speed and place the focus on strategy and execution. Communication and creative problem-solving rather than following some streamer’s guide

  • Could possibly have more affixes like 4+, something each role needs to deal with

  • Trash could be more like teeming in bfa, with more patrols or stealthed mobs. Actual traps to avoid

  • imagine trash and bosses having a much smarter AI, more similar to the island expeditions in bfa.

  • Trash that can pop a pvp trinket out of cc, or run to another pack for help, or vanish and cheap shot the healer.

  • in Soviet heroic plus, you do mot interrupt trash, trash interrupts YOU.

  • smarttrash™

I think there’s a market for players that want challenging dungeon content, but dislike the limitations that timers put on the content, and would rather take the slow and steady strategist approach.

I have three versions of dungeons in Old Republic: story mode (by myself, no good gear drops), veteran mode (basically normal), and master mode (highest difficulty). None of which have timers. That’s all I need in life.

I like your idea, but I feel like we’ve got too many modes to begin with.

Without a timer there’s no difficulty. Even raid bosses have timers, but the difference is if you get a raid boss to 50% then die, you start again. Whereas if you kill half of a trash pack and then die, you can come back and clear out the remaining half no issues.

Not to mention without a timer you’re just begging for cheese strats.

I think timers are fine but they’re also a lazy way to make things harder. Timers also limit how you can play which goes against the RPG aspect of these games for me.

I think the design of Mythic plus is solid as far as gameplay but I wish we had more variance in how we play and what classes we want to bring.

I would like this, but I don’t think its going to happen since in a recent interview the devs say they wanted speed to be a measure of skill in this game. So I imagine its only going to get worse and pop up in more parts of the game.

You can do this right now. Ignore the timer and it does nothing. It won’t just end your run.

Try doing anything 20+, everything hits really hard.

Not opposed to this.

Implying doing higher key doesn’t require strategy or execution or communication. Also look at the skips, some of them are rather creative.

Yep and limit heroism or just let us have it for every pull and go ham.

In before someone says it will be a wait-for-lust-every-pull meta.

Edit: One post too slow :frowning:

I also love the implication that somehow removing the timer is going to make it so people don’t follow the meta. As if there isn’t always a meta for everything.

No, that’s the whole point. If you need to kite the boss around the room, do it. If you use engineering bombs for cc, do it.

That’s the entire point.
That is fun for some people.

Timers aren’t more or less difficult, they’re just pressure.

What if someone leaves? Will there be an exception to allow replacements?

Current M+ does not.

This is probably one of the most low-quality things I’ve read on this forum.

I think this is a bit reaching. Timer doesn’t necessarily go against any sort of RPG principle. I mean, most of RPG stories have some sort of time constraint. The big bad isn’t going to wait for you forever, is it?

And one thing to remember is this: the M+ timer is a “soft timer”. Your run is not going to end just because the timer has run out. Get a group together for a “no leaver / no timer” run, do it enough times you might just run into enough people to make your own regular group.

People way outgear the content but you get something like bolstering and some mobs, like the dogs in HoA will wreck a tank way below a +20.

I mean, yeah. This. I’m not asking for my idea to replace the current m+, just to be an alternate mode that emphasises slower, more creative problem solving.

And what are the rewards like for this type of dungeon?

Sounds cool. How would one progress or push their key? Simply through completion?

You are gonna have to add some context to this. Exactly which part of my comment was you question for?

I might have phrased that poorly. I agree with you, just pointing out that with certain affixes stuff hits hard well below +20

The best thing to do is to stop caring about timer and just run “for completion” groups. That’s what I usually do. It’s funny because we still make timer like 80% of the time.

If everyone stops caring, the pressure will be off. Yeah it helps to get extra loot but it isn’t that big of a deal anyway. Most run for the vault so it doesn’t matter.
