[A] Looking for noble house/militaristic guild

Hey there! A big old thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Ive been looking for a kinda militaristic noble house, maybe a nobles and military order type roleplay guild. Heavier the better.

In addition but not necessarily required, a great bonus would be if they do some recent content together, even if it isn’t mythic.

I am looking for that type as well. Perhaps we should start our own?

Okay found a chance to reply to this, okay so first off on the guild matter. I would love to start something like this and am a bit overqualified in booting up a guild of this nature… if it wasn’t for my work schedule, where five years ago I had tons of time I now put in about twelve or more hours a day at work. If my fiance and I are able to free ourselves from the schedule we might consider it. Hence why we were/are looking for an established one already.

In terms of demon hunter, I love it. Gameplay wise the mobility and skills are just fantastic for my style, it almost feels like the freedom I forst felt when I got my flying mount. How it plays, I usually call it the closest thing we can get to a melee mage I suppose, like you are doing all these melee attacks and shooting fel out your eyes and placing sigils on the ground and having an aura of fire around you. It is the most fun I have ever had tanking and furthermore the only tank I have ever enjoyed, almost enough to be my main if my group of friends didn’t have one already. For roleplay purposes, I love the illidari story and the role they played in legion and how they were implemented. As someone who has loved demon hunters since warcraft 3, always having resesrched any lore I could about them over the years and finally had my chance to play one, I can say with total certainty if you are a fan of them just go for it.

Thanks for the reply!
First and foremost, on the main topic of this thread; I’d say give it a few more days to see if we can get a bite. If we don’t get any within the week, then I’d say just starting our own would be more thesible. I’ve a few years of GMing under my belt from the old days myself, and am the reluctant but content Forever DM for 2 groups of my friends. I also work from home and hence have a metric tonne of free time. So if it comes down to it, I’d be willing to do the same as I do with my D&D groups and cast myself upon the blade of GM just to be able to actually play and have some fun.
Again, hopefully we get someone to give us a bite and extend an invite, as that does work best for everyone. But in case we don’t, feel free to toss out a guild name idea.

On the side topic; I agree with your description. Demon Hunters and Death Knights always seemed like Spell-Blade esk characters with how they played. And your input was quite helpful. Unfourtately, I’m an indecisive f*$& and still couldn’t make up my mind. Made even worse by the fact that got bored and messed around with Mogit on a Warrior, and psudo built an interesting character concept in my head for one while I was at it. So, I just did what I always end up doing when I can’t make up my mind and divined the dice gods for a decision. I’ve ended on a Burr Drood. Thus RNG has spoken, thus her will shall be done.

I have lead several different guilds like this in the past and am looking to come out of retirement as a guild leader, I already have a guild made with all the bank slots and have been planning on making a House nobility guild. All I have to do is Change the guild name to match the theme and set up ranks; and any ideas for the name would be considered if anyone is interested in doing this with me.

This is Nightstarr, and I meant to post on this character, the guild I have is on MG Ally

Hopefully I am using this new forum system correctly and this shows up at the bottom and not just a reply to one person lol

Anyway as I said nothing is set in stone yet as far as rules and ranks go so any ideas you guys have are fair game.

So the basic layout of the guild is this from what I have thought of so far. My main Alice Dawford is like a mad scientist socialite. A trust fun baby that loves to engineer but not like overly pompous think more…eccentric…
So she started the Tinkers’ Union but long story short 1 small mistake on a coffee machine for the Kirin Tor and you end up with cold coffee and steaming Magus. After this the Union had to file for bankruptcy and close down. But Dawford isn’t going to let that stop her from getting back on the horse. She then travels north to seek out {The Order of House Dawford} hoping with the help of her family name and all it’s resources she can bring it back to it’s former glory. -clenches fist and pumps it in the air-

So the basic system of the guild would be the noble family and family priest at the very top pumping money behind the House’s pursuits.
And then after that the ranks would be cut into two groups “performers” and “soldiers”
(And these names are changable)
The “Performers” are a mix of individuals funded by the house either as servants or craftsmen. This group would do jobs ranging from serving wine at social events to going on trading caravans in the deep steamy jungles of Stranglethorn Vale.

The “Soldiers” will be the House’s Sword AND shield depending on if being defended or conquering and knowing the difference. Their duties would range from being security at big events or small ones and taking back land in the North so that House Dawford might have extra resources and tighten its’ grip up north.

And other than being just a “House guild” on paper we will also become an events guild hoping to host server wide events to further our influence and fatten our already obese wallet.

Now again this is just the basic foundation of what the guild will be based around and the ranks are only vague because we would discuss as a unit how best to create and implement them as well as discuss as a whole what the name of the guild should be changed to.

So what do you think?

Edit reply:
Well I am grateful for the criticism. If we don’t listen to others we will never learn. I started the Tinkerers’ Union so I could have the first engineers themed guild so I could bring more engineering rp about, but after some rl events I had to leave so it died out and even though I could pursue that again I thought a change would be fun. I wrote her to be as funny and ridiculous as a gnome engineer would be but as a human and a lot of the same humor likes to transmit when I write. So yes it is supposed to ooze gnomish relief type of humor in there a little bit but over all the idea is a house guild that goes on military campaigns, does traveling merchant events, hosts server wide social and fun events, and just have a lot of internal storyline dialogue for not just the main family but anyone else involved in the Rp. So ya I am a bit of a goofball but I try to be open minded about everything without being lore breaking.

I used to run something like this (AD/Europe) but that was more of a coalition of noble houses. When someone joined, they could pledge their house under the coalition, or they could decide to become part of an existing house whose interests aligned with their own. It let people contribute widely with what they personally found interesting, while still keeping the guild together with campaigns, events and just general RP.

What I personally liked a lot, and what made quite a few join, was the fact there was no weird power imbalance in the guild. There was no “main star” house members with all their “side/background actors” be that civilians, crafters, guards etc. Someone could bring their own house into the guild on equal standings or like mentioned before, someone who just wanted to be part of it all without creating their own house could join another. For example, I had a house with a military/offensive focus. Someone joined and wanted to be part of that and got to be part of the military leadership within that guild. Another house focused heavily on trade and craftmanship. We had a campaign that included helping that house reach a trade destination while traveling through hostile lands – thus the military focused group accompanied them.

It was a lot of fun and if not for weird time zones and whatnot, I would still be part of it on AD. It’s why I have been keeping an eye on this thread also to see what might pop up and/or general interest from people.

ok now THIS sounds interesting!

A noble guild structured like this I would gladly join. I don’t mind playing as a servant or guard once in a while to help set up someone else’s scene but I also want my character to be important sometimes! Luckily a change in costume and TRP is all it would take, given I’m in a guild that allows it.

I think it also opens the possibility of having dwarven and elven noble families working alongside the human noble family that always seems to be the “main character” of other noble guilds.

Now it seems to be letting me post if I use my old avatar, figures. I like that Isarina, I tried once with some friends to do something similar to that call the Ashen Throne but the houses were rivals and each had their own territory and each were constantly trying to get the others on their ‘side’, Made for some great Storylines. I actually like this idea better than the one I had originally.

The main difference between the Ashen Throne and what Isarina is saying though is that it would be houses working together to kill the main villians more than fighting each other like game of thrones.

I absolutely don’t mind playing support roles either to people’s stories. However, I do feel, like you said, a TRP profile swap would serve that purpose just fine. It can be challenging to just have a role as a servant or something similar as the only position your character would have. To me, that character would feel tedious and shallow after a while.

And yes! We did have other racial houses in the coalition - none were excluded. Like I mentioned before, every house was able to focus on wherever their interest would lie without being bound to just be another follower of a ‘main family’. It made the broader diversity in heritage or culture interesting.

It really did build a great community and like I said, had it not been for the whole move to US servers, I would not have left it behind.

It sounds a little like GoT and while I see the intrigue in that, I think it can cause this underlaying feeling of people trying to snipe each other’s members/followers. I can’t speak for what it looked like in your guild, but my immediate concern about making guildies into rivals, would be causing some waves not only IC, but also OOC.

The political intrigue can be a great playground for storytelling, but I think you can also get that by having houses working together. Just working through how each house feels about different things and how to approach them was an interesting process. The different houses did not always agree on things either, so they had to compromise and try to find common grounds somehow. It made for compelling growth in characters and relations.

I think you had an advantage in creating a guild with friends because it usually requires more than just one passionate GM to push through with a guild in the start of it ^^

Edit: Spelling.

Ohmigosh I love that so much: it feels like what I originally thought being part of the Alliance would be like, with several powerful factions working together but none of them supreme over the other, requiring that extremely different cultures/groups be willing to debate and come to agreements, then work together

I thinking I’m starting to see a model for what we can do for this. Here is the Ranking system I am working on so far on the Noble Houses (Plural) guild; please keep in mind this is a rough draft. Let’s continue to use this thread for brainstorming, however I am going to have my husband make a discord channel for everyone interested in making this Coalition happen and being involved in the creating process. I think this could be pretty cool as a multi-Gm guild maybe too Isarina, Penáncé, me, heck even cranky Saleina if she’s willing to give it a shot. Multiple brains are even better than one. Anyway here’s what I’m thinking on the ranking so far:

Coalition-an alliance for combined action, especially a temporary alliance of political parties forming a government or of states.

“a coalition of conservatives and disaffected Democrats”

Coalition of Noble House ranking system – Rough Draft

  1. Diplomats
  2. Nobles
  3. Stewards
  4. Marshals
  5. Chamberlains
  6. Chamber
  7. Wardrobe
  8. Military
  9. Contractors

Ranking Explained

-Diplomats:
The Administration or Group of Guild Masters in charge of the Guild Out of Character but are regular nobles while in character.

-Nobles:
a person of noble rank or birth. Nobility might be either inherited or conferred by a fons honorum. It is usually an acknowledged preeminence that is paternal i.e. the status descends exclusively to some or all of the legitimate, and male or female-line, descendants of a nobleman or noble woman of varying cultures and races. In this respect, the nobility as a class has always been much more extensive than the primogeniture-based titled nobility. I.E. the Noble Men and Women whom command a number of clients or dependents of the lord who would attend upon him, counsel him and receive rewards. Each house will be responsible for it’s own individual events unless it is a guild wide storyline or event. Noble Households are encouraged to make collaboration events with other households if they so choose. They are responsible for the In character discipline of their household but Out of Character Issues will be brought to the attention of one or more of the diplomats (depending on the size and scale of the issue) to discretely deal with OOC.

-Stewards:
Have the overriding responsibility for the domestic affairs of the household. In charge of each House’s ‘Wardrobe’ and setting it up according to how the Lord/Lady thinks it should be.

-Marshals: Military Officers in Charge of carrying out the will of the Noble house via militant strategies. Each Marshal oversees how it’s military is set up according to how the Lord/Lady thinks it should be.

-Chamberlain: a senior official in charge of managing a household’s financial well-being and affairs. Each Chamberlain oversees how it’s ‘Chamber’ is set up according to how the Lord/Lady think it should be. They superintend the arrangement of domestic affairs and are often also charged with receiving and paying out money kept in the ‘Chamber’. The position is usually honored upon a high-ranking member of the nobility (nobleman) or the clergy, often a favorite.

-Chamber:
Salesmen, crafters, tradesmen. The Chamber are the financial back bone of the house that makes the gold.

-Wardrobe:
One of the most important functions of the household is the procuration, storage and preparation of food and care of its’ occupants This consists in feeding the occupants of the residence on a daily basis, in preparing larger feasts for guests, in daily cleaning, running the stables, household funtionallity, and being devoted to domestic tasks to maintain the status of the Lord/Lady. The kitchen is divided into a pantry (for bread, cheese and napery) and a buttery (for wine, ale and beer). These offices headed by a pantler and a butler respectively however the Ladies in weighting are also options. Depending on the size and wealth of the household, these offices may then be subdivided further.

-Military:
The military defense of each House, every noble family will have to decide how they will defend themselves from a world wrought with war and torn asunder by tragedy. They will have to choose if they want an army of Knights, Pages, and Squires, if they trust mercenaries enough to possibly hire them, or even use the latest tech to give themselves an even sharper edge.

-Contractors: These guys are the literal life blood of the guild. When someone joins, they can pledge their house under the coalition, or they can decide to become part of an existing house whose interests align with their own. No “main star” house members with all their “side/background actors” be that civilians, crafters, guards etc. Someone can bring their own house into the guild on equal standings or like mentioned before, someone who just wanted to be part of it all without creating their own house can join another. As an example here is a quote from Isarina, “I had a house with a military/offensive focus. Someone joined and wanted to be part of that and got to be part of the military leadership within that guild. Another house focused heavily on trade and craftmanship. We had a campaign that included helping that house reach a trade destination while traveling through hostile lands – thus the military focused group accompanied them. And yes! We did have other racial houses in the coalition - none were excluded. Like I mentioned before, every house was able to focus on wherever their interest would lie without being bound to just be another follower of a ‘main family’. It made the broader diversity in heritage or culture”
And so shall this one be open to all races, classes, genders, and mad lads.

*Rules and further details will be decided as a group*

All alts are welcome and we can possibly just have an OOC rank for alts if you guys like to if you don’t want them to join the guild Icly but just wanna hang out with everybody in chat or somethin’

Possible guild names:

  1. The Nobles Coalition>
  2. The Consortium>
  3. Cultured Caucus>
  4. The Forbidden Kingdom>
  5. The Association Causation>
  6. The Causation Association>
  7. Causation Association>
  8. Association Causation>
  9. House of Menethil>
  10. House of Wrynn>

Any others ya’ll think of just post here in the thread and I will add them to the list

Count me in. Sounds like fun. Already added Nightstarr to my ID list. Would we use just one character without alts? Hard enough keeping a storyline going with one character sometimes.

Bump for hours of hard work and thank you Gunchark <3

Also The ranking is a collaboration of everyone’s ideas and thoughts and yes we should start a laid back raid team to be able to maybe do some current content without all the stress of finding a judgey Raid or Dungen Finder who will kick you after the first wipe. That is another great thing about guilds <3

I think some of these details can and should vary based on the traditions of each individual noble house. While Lordaeron seemed to place male heirs like Arthas above their sisters, other kingdoms, (even human kingdoms as we see in Kul’tiras), didn’t seem to mind treating female heirs as equally legitimate. Night elven nobility may even favor female heirs because of the sisterhood of Elune and all that.

I realize this is only a rough draft and subject to change, but I hope that whatever we ultimately settle on, rather than requiring each house to follow the list of ranks and their descriptions as hard rules they should be allowed to customize them to fit their own noble house.

The Consortium is a great name.
