If you haven’t read this to prepare for tomorrow, I strongly suggest you do so.
Especially the last paragraph. Things happen in the background when you log in, so if there is heavy demand those changes may not fire off initially. If you don’t have immediate access to your bank give it a bit of time and relog.
Also, with the changes made, be fully prepared for addons that interact with inventory (a lot of them) may not work, or could misbehave. My personal recommendation is not to use them until your addon creators update them to work with the restructured system. Your mileage may vary
Just as a precaution and for “sorting”, I’m going to take a screenshot of all my bank stuff tonight. I have stuff organized into different bank bags. After the conversion, since I’m not sure how it will all be transferred to the new bank (maybe one huge chunk of stuff) I’ll be able to reorganize my bank “junk” into logical groups based on what I have now.
For my own peace of mind, I’m moving anything I absolutely don’t want to lose to my personal bags before logging out tonight. I have a few nostalgic items that I worked my rear end off to get for attunements that just mean something to me. Like the Hammer of Zul’Furrack, Drakefire Amulet, Onyxia Scale Cloak, etc. I know they’re no longer needed they were a special time and place for me that are not replaceable.
I have so much stuff that there is no way I can organize it all. I am going to trust that my Onyxia Scale cloak, all the on use toys that are not in the toy box…etc. Will still be there. I just can’t handle cleaning it up. I can’t even thing about it. I did get the bank slots and void slots on my alts that are below 80 so I don’t have to pay extra for those.
At least the Onyxia scale cloak can still be made, so if you lose yours just hit me up. My hunter can make them. Granted their only real use now is in specific DF content to counteract shadowflame…
Normally I’d say just use the mail system like the character boosts and gear update system does, but with bank slots and void storage that’s a bit too much to fit into mailboxes. I just hope it doesn’t end up as a repeat of the guild bank fiasco from prepatch that I heard so much about.
Edit: By “use the mail system” I meant for Blizzard to use the mail as temporary storage so you could then put items into the bank in the order you wanted, not whatever order it’ll end up being upon conversion.
Most of my void storage was used for a time when transmog required having a physical (in-game) copy of the item in order to use the transmog and for legion legendaries. But void storage failed because of poor foresight in its design, notably the unique item restriction, which many, many desireable transmog items had at the time.
The good news is that once the new system is up and running, expanding it should be something they could do in the future since they’ll have the templates in place. Unified systems really do simplify a lot of things.
I just hope they have improved backups. I wasn’t surprised a bug happened with the guild bank thing. Where there is software, there will be bugs. You fix them and move on. But I was legit surprised they were able to do so little recovery afterwards. (…According to the forums, anyway. I guess it’s possible that 95% of people got 95% of their stuff back, and it only seems worse because, of course, the other 5% are the ones complaining on the forums.)
I don’t think anyone can know how much was actually lost, since they could only recover stuff they still had logs for. I’m hoping they are doing more this time to back up info in case of issues
Good suggestion. ElvUI is functioning, but as you mentioned the inventory portion is misbehaving. Specifically, the Bag/Bank section has 3 of 5 tabs greyed out & can’t be interacted with.
