First, I love Pet Battles.
Second, I love Xu-Fu’s Pet Guides
Third, I maintain the CritterEmote addon. (BPCritterEmote)
In the face of losing subscriptions, I comprehend Microsoft/Blizzard’s desire to stay relevant with today’s gaming community for _Retail. We are seeing things that we enjoy in _Retail moving over to Classic.
If we, as a subgroup, want to see Pet Battles continue, we will need to come up with a model that makes it relevant to gameplay. How can a pet buff me/help me with other aspects of the game?
If I own and level up this pet, what does it do for me as a [class], [spec], or even [race]?
It needs to be more than just a collection that we farm.
Pet battles are the main reason I log in. This news distresses me. I was hoping that they would bring back pet battle dungeons. There were not enough of those.
Blizzard, please don’t retire pet battles!!
Wild pet battles has literally been my favorite part of the game. I do not want it dumbed down, it has already affected my purchasing and subscription as I have taken off auto renew as this is highly concerning to me. I see folks pet battle all the time, to say it is not a large part of the game is disingenuous and that is the most concerning part of all of this, as I feel the producer of the only video game I still play is not being honest while diminishing the last part of the game that keeps me doing all the “other stuff.”
I think it is disingenuous that they are planning that, but still selling pets. (and at full price!)
I love pet battles. I have been rather disappointed in the recent patch with the new zone & raid. So many critters around… but none can be captured & no pet battle dailies. Why bother putting in the critters if they can’t be pets & if there isn’t the /love the squirrels achieve?
I’ve only recently discovered the joy of pet battling and collecting and have taken so much time chasing collections and achievements that it has felt like I’m playing the game for the first time again. Learning that it won’t be the same going forward has been upsetting, in a word. I hope the developers change tack and decide against changes that adversely affect pet-battling/capturing communities.
I realize I’m not alone, but I also realize I’m not the typical WoW player when I say that pet battles and collecting are what have kept me coming back to the game over and over again. Even if collecting will remain, any decrease in new pet content will hurt the game for a segment of the player base. The only time I had stopped playing WoW for more than a couple months since 2005 was the second half of Cataclysm, and it was a friend telling me about the introduction of the current pet system in Mists that made me come back. I haven’t had an extended absence from the game since. I’m not a PvP player, I’m not a raider, and it has been several expansions since I did higher keystones. Pets, the main story campaigns, and gearing up are what keep the game alive for me. Thank you Aranesh and all the others who give a voice to our community and put in tons of thankless hours so that we can enjoy our battling and collecting based on your work.
Started playing WoW in Pandaria and have loved it all the way through. The first thing my BF got me when when I started my account was Cinder Kitten (named Ember) off of the store. She has been on my bars from that day on and she is my forever companion. I am an avid collection and catching all the wild pets is priority with each expansion (along with loving all the critters) I finally go to a place where I was able to get through Celestial Torment in DF and now I am getting to enjoy the Pet Dungeons for the first time. The sense of loss I have just getting to this place of confidence and collection to have battle pets pulled back in any way is beyond. The WoW Pet community is strong and so kind. I hate seeing it threatened like this.
The only thing that keeps me in the game between releases is gathering pets. I hope they rethink letting go of this part of the game.
Don’t nerf pet battles.
I know there’s a few annoyances that go with the way it functions, but I like everyone else has overcome them.
It’s fun to do and I usually just play wow for this feature alone.
What would taking it away from us accomplish besides a few hundred thousand people felling ripped off by its change or disappearance.
I love pet battling and I love collecting the tiny pets and doing all the achievements. It has become one of my favorite parts of World of Warcraft. Please don’t take it away.

It would be such a shame to lose pet bettles! I’ve been with Warcraft almost since the beginning, and this would make me consider moving on to another game.
Pet Battles and Pet Collecting is what I do most in WoW. It used to be more fun and new pets would be introduced and they were relelevant to battles. I think the last pet that really mattered for strategy was B’aal. It was a secret pet, hard to obtain and is powerful in the right battles.
Pet’s is the first thing I look for in a new expansion, and I always fight the daily’s for upgrades and currency. Maybe if they added rewards like Crests more people would play.
I thank Xu-Fu and Warcraft Pets for the time they spent to give us a enjoyable communities to make collecting and battling more fun.
Pet battles has been an enjoyable side activity for me for years… The game, at times, can be very aggressive with it’s FOMO content and this can leave you feeling tired. Having the ability to fly around, build a stable and take on many different levels of challenges from past expansions was and still is a wonderful part of the game for me.
I wont go into changes that I believe would improve the system as some excellent ideas have previously been offered by players I would simply like to implore Blizzard to show pet battles some love. The community is larger than you think and like the retail game with new content comes new interest and new players. Build it and they will come.
I started doing pet battles again just before they made this announcement (figures) because I finally was able to nail a few long-standing pet tamers I could never beat before. Blizzard has no one but themselves to blame for making Pet Battles low participation because they made so many Pet Battle Masters nearly impossible to beat, like von Feasel at Darkmoon Fair or Cymre Whatshername in Gorgrond. I saw Pet Battles as a relaxing sub-game, like fishing. I shouldn’t have to go to WOWHead for strategies, especially when, as with von Feasel, all those previously easy strategies are no longer valid or call for rare pets most players don’t have. You’re nerfing everything else, Blizzard, no reason why you can’t make pet battles more doable.
I’ve been pet battling since the feature was launched in MoP and it honestly made me feel more engaged with the game. I really enjoy collecting pets, competing and doing challenges. I agree with some of the replies that the pet battling system should be revamped/refreshed, not removed. The Celestial Tournament is a good example of what Blizzard did right with pet battling. Seems like there are many things they could do: add new families, add epic or legendary tiers, increase the level cap, make pet battling scenarios/instances. Hell, model future content after what Pokémon does well. Eliminating pet battles is not the way forward; in fact, I’d be less inclined to pay a hefty subscription fee without them.
Pet battles are one of the few reasons for me to keep playing. They’ve become a reprieve from the daily grind. I really hope you keep pet battles active and updated.
I really hope that Blizzard reads these and understand how important these battle pet battles are to many people.
This will be long so I am warning you ahead of time. The only reason for it being so long is because I believe this is very important to me and MANY, many others. Blizzard has been listening more now days than they have in many years , so I believe if we don’t voice ourselves on important topics then why we even playing.
I have been playing and paying for this game since alpha/beta testing of vanilla and am one of very few that have been. I spent more than the average person on this game with many transfers, tokens, name changes, faction changes, accounts (at one time 4 accounts) and etc. because I love the game. Yes I work 40-60 hours a week in a labor job and also married, so not a streamer or home bound person. I am still here with two accounts because of the game but will be the first person to say there has been many low days of playing or not playing the game for many reasons, I will save that for another day.
Pet battles is a game within this game, just like Pvp is for many others. I know personally many people only play this game just because of the pet battles . They leveling up a toon to get into the areas for battle pets battles in each expansion. We had one lady that ONLY did pet battles for over 10 years in this game, she love it and made her smile everyday till she left us. There has been Many days it was the only reason I logged into Wow and I mean the ONLY reason. It helps with stress release, its just you and the game, don’t need anyone else unless you want to between others, really fun with family Battler in dungeons / expansions and many other reason that others have said here. Blizzard, The Celestial Tournament was one of the greatest thing you put into the game. There is others that do them for sparks instead of quest because they enjoy them more. With dropping the breeds on some pets lately and a few other things I knew something was up.
Yes this part of the game has not been updated much in the last few years but many still enjoy them and need them. Maybe blizzard needs someone like Aranesh to help them to understand more about our community or maybe run it with them. I was really lost with pet battles but kept playing them. When Xu-Fu’s /Aranesh started their thing I couldn’t get enough of pet battles. Aranesh started a community that made this part of the game unbelievably great and I can not put into words how grateful I am to Aranesh and MANY others are.
I know business and I know you have to compact, save money, cut corners like everyone else and with Microsoft taking over might have to do more. I will say that you will be hurting the game and losing money / subscribers with the dropping of pet battles. Blizzard take a chance, talk and listen to us, give Aranesh a call , look at how much product you sell in the Blizzard store when a battle pet is attached, look at the monthly treasure chest and how many pets are taken over other monthly things and trust us when I say this could blow up even more with little care. Battle pets to us is like Pvp is to many others( others even had to do more pvp just to get to get the two pets at 400 renoun).
Sorry so long but it means a lot to me and many others I know, thank you for reading.
My engagement with pets is more about collecting than battling, but if the proposed changes go through without change, I would be terribly disappointed. I genuinely favor having to put in some effort to +1 my collection, and what’s being presented is so slight and trivial that it would put me off completely.
