A heartfelt message from Xu-Fu’s Pet Guides on the upcoming Midnight changes

A Friend and I were just talking about this very thing. I quit wow back in legion to go play Final Fantasy 14 and the one thing I would never shut up about is how cool pet battles were when you just wanted to relax. It’s soo much fun to connect to your little non combat pets, to work out strategies, or even just to have a break from “every quest is combat” and feel like you’re still accomplishing something. You get to raise a friend.

I know Blizzard thinks we want a ton of work to make 40 pets per patch with unique abilities but I’ll be honest 1 or 2 GREAT friends are definitely what I’m looking for. You don’t need to invest the world into this system, just keep pet battle world quests, allow us some unique ways to earn 1-3 good pets, and don’t give up on a system that defines relaxation in this game. I came back for the end of TTW after 6 years BECAUSE there’s no relaxation content in FFXIV. It’s all combat all the time. There’s no chill. I 100% support keeping pet battles in this game.

Again, we don’t need 40 pets.

1 or 2 and world quests will keep me happy.

I love battle pets. I am currently doing the pet battle content in classic MOP. I am so disappointed in the pet battle content of Midnight that I am not even going to spend money on the new release.

I spend about 75% of my time in WoW pet battling. Its one of the main reasons I have kept my account going so long. I’ve never been great at raiding or dungeons so this is one area I feel like I can play with out other players since all my old guild members and friends quit.

I just don’t understand the lack of thought behind a lack of engagement/interest when we haven’t had new pet battle content, aside from some new pets, since the last pet battle dungeon? I love collecting pets, I love battling, I go back to old content to finish things. It’s one of my favorite parts and a relaxing activity (like fishing and archeology) don’t take this away.

While I have been playing WoW for a few expansions now (I started towards the end of BfA), it is really only during TWW that I’ve grown to love collecting/battling pets. This isn’t a part of the game that I knew much about before but now that I’ve discovered it, I can’t imagine playing without it. The daily quests with the trainers are honestly the only daily quests that I routinely engage in, once my characters are leveled and max rep has been reached. M+ and raid, while rewarding, can be stressful. I enjoy those things but I also enjoy relaxing by focusing on collecting pets for my collection or completing pet battle dungeons. My interest has renewed the interest for some of my guild mates as well, as we compare collections and such. I sincerely hope that this feature is not phased out.

battle pets are a nice little game, if it’s not gettingn engament it’s because you (blizzard) have abandoned it, nerfed it to the ground, why i need to go do draenor if i want to lvl pet enfienciently? why not reward current content with exp too? why can’t use a lvl 25 pet from the action house if i dont have a 25 already? this who know how many years old “ideia”, acording to some sites, less ppl engage in mythic raiding then battle pet and the resources used on each is world a part, it’s you blizzad that is killing battle pet not the player engagment

I mostly only play wow for the pet collection and battle currently in wow. I rejoined panda to do it all again. the only reason I would play retail again is to complete my pet battle collection.

I have never posted into a forum before but had to for this thanks to Xu-Fu’s Pets. I first played WoW from about 6 months after WoW originally dropped. I quit with the Pandaria release, but a few years later, I came back. I didn’t know anything about pet battles, but my brother was doing them one day, so it got me curious. I started to try them and fell in love with Pet Battles. I had made an ALT and leveled it entirely from pet battles! I was thrilled when I got my first pet to level 25 and was disappointed when the Pet Dungeons were discontinued. Now, Delves and Pet Battles are my favorite activities. It’s too bad that Blizz is abandoning pet battles. Maybe, just maybe, they can rethink and bring back Pet Dungeons.

I have played WOW since it came out and mostly for the pet battles. I love collecting/levelling the pets so if they only make changes where pet battles and collecting are changed but still available I will stay if not then I will no longer play WOW and find something else I can enjoy.

Long time WoW vet. I took a break after WoD, and never really got into the pet battling system. I’ve just come back after about a decade away, and got into pet battles HARDCORE. In the last 3 weeks, I’ve gone from zero max level pets to over 120. And today I see that they’re deprecating the system. Sigh. C’mon Blizzard. Do better.

I have played WOW a long time and over the years have narrowed my play to mostly pet battles, collecting and leveling. I no longer am interested in PVP, dungeons and raids as I feel they have changed so much they are not fun anymore for a casual player. If it was not for pet battles I would likely no longer play WOW.

Please, please, please, don’t change the pet battle system. The pet battles and collecting are my favorite part of the game. I am a solo player. I don’t do raids or dungeons.

I have played on and off since vanilla. I lost a lot of interest in the game when they made the changes in Cataclysm. Pet battles are one of the main reasons that I continue to play. I stumbled across your website earlier this year and now use it almost on a daily basis. Great work.

I have played since BC. Even now when I’m back doing old content I’m checking the little green paw marks that appear on my screen just in case theres a pet I have missed.
Only in this past month I figured I would get some of the achievements for the areas by completing the pet battles.
But first I went to level some pets. Thats when I discovered there were no pets in Karesh. I ws very disappointed but then read that you guys didn’t put any in there. WHAT?
And then to read that you plan on continuing in this vein. I mean come on guys, read the room!
I’m loving doing the pet battles. While I’m at work I dragged an old laptop along to pet battle, its not up for much else with lagging and connections, but I can belt out a few battles and work through the achievements.
Not only has this taken me back through all the old content bringing back the joy of exploring these areas again but its sent me off on the hunt for pets I don’t have, exploring yet more areas that were long since forgotten.
You actually have 2 groups of people that you will make hurt, the pet community and the achievement folk. Its not all about PVP and transmog you know. Theres other people in the game that like pottering around, doing their own thing, quietly, gently. Collecting new pets, searching high and low for that one elusive wee guy that can only be caught as a secondary pet in a deep cave under water 7 waves out. It requires potions, crossing fingers and possibly someone to res you.
And then we proudly drag the wee guy out to show everyone in the latest capital city, no one notices but sometimes you see someone stop, you see their target as your pet and you know they are now frantically searching on where that pets location is and arranging their pet battle screen accordingly.
Don’t take that joy away from us.

I literally do pet battles as my sole interaction. I am a completist, and collecting pets, searching for blues, and waiting for it to snow/rain etc., to capture that one pet I don’t have is why I still log in. Without pet battles, I will end my 15+ year engagement with this game.

I love pet battles. Blizzard stop removing stuff that fun and niche. Let us have our fun in Midnight and future expansions. Dont be a sour puss.

Please don’t downgrade or abandon the pet battle system. I love it as is. I hate the idea of just going into a zone and immediately capturing a pet without a battle first. I also hate the idea of it being phased out. Pet battles are a great casual way to play WoW.

If you take away core elements of the game because you want to maximize your profit, all you’re really doing is alienating your longest subbed and most dedicated players.

Over the past 17 years of play, pet battles have added so much enjoyment. I will be so disappointed if they are phased out or changed in some way. K’aresh has already eliminated wild pet battles and added phase diving which I hate. It is probably time for me to consider another gaming option.

I love pet battles, and have since they were introduced. In the last several years they have become more of a staple for me, since my Multiple Sclerosis has become worse and I have found it much more difficult to anything that requires groups (dungeons, raids, PvP), so I have taken to doing anything that is solo content, and pet battles is one part of soloing that I really enjoy. Please don’t take this piece of solo content away from us.
