I don’t think people really give two poops at this point. All I see are people pining for the return to the old days. Where I guess millions of subscribers are going to make their triumphant return.
Which, if classic brings people back that love the game that’s awesome too.
A lot of players will, indeed, get “tombstone piledrived” by classic … particularly those who never had the chance to play it before Cataclysm ruined it beyond all imagination. There are, however, some of us who WANT that style of play because of the sense of accomplishment we’ll get from those grindy, continent-hopping-back-and-forth quests.
Especially those old Darkshore quests that lead to Stitches be released, or the run-around Stalvan quests.
And the class-specific mount quests for paladins and warlocks.
Quests where the rewards were actually something of value for the work we had to put into them.
Hunters with quivers (in a bag slot) and enough ammo (bullets or arrows) to hold you over until you can get back to a source; having to manage mana again instead of focus; making sure the pet is fed so it doesn’t run off; keeping the pet’s health up during a fight so it doesn’t die.
Actually having to MANAGE your character (and any pets available) instead of blindly run here, run there, jump down, jump up, with no concern for any consequences.
When you had to actually THINK in order to play your character to its fullest.
I’m looking forward to it … (others’ mileage may be different)
I don’t see Classic becoming a raging hit (though I’d love to be wrong) but I do think that it’ll stabilize a decent chunk of players that otherwise would’ve been dipping in and out of modern WoW following content booms + busts.
I remember going to Winterwpring zone with a few friends grinding those elite giants from like level 55 or so till I reached level 60. Those were good times, which of course passed and I wont be returning to classic to try and rekindle them.
Yep, there’ll be a tonne of them … from players who never played the original game. Those of us who DID play it know full well that it ain’t gonna be there. And we’re fine with that.
I’m all for players having fun and playing what they like and enjoy. Their money and time should equate to what they love and enjoy. I myself will not be making a return to classic.
None of the people I played with through classic play any longer and I really just want to keep those fond memories of the past as that, “Fond Memories”.
what will be funny will be the people that claim that this classic isnt how the original was. That it was much easier and where is that QOL change that they have gotten so used too.
I view classic as being that “Breath of Fresh Air, or old air” however you look at it that will bring some people back to the game.
I figure at first classic will be booming with people subbing up to give it a go or to just remember what it was like all over again. However, once some time has passed it will probably calm down.
Ummmm it’s a computer game, no one is asking them to complete the Iron Man triathlon. You arent scaring anyone if that’s your intention, I am not aware of many people ‘afraid’ of a fantasy game. IF they dont like it, pretty sure they just won’t bother with it.
Oh, I remember that, too!!! Thanks for reminding me. I think the group of guildies I went with spent a week up there on those giants AND grinding the Frostsaber rep to get the mount. FUN!!! Gonna try to do it again … after grinding the Timbermaw rep to be able to go through the tunnel from Felwood to Winterspring and Moonglade.
Sadly, I never did the grind for Tembermaw or Frostsaber rep during vanilla. Once I dinged 60 I was trying out pulling to our main tank in mc as hunter.
A time when I felt like I was applying for a job, where you had to app to a guild, then try out, then hope you made it. Not a lot of guilds were really moving around during Vanilla days of raiding so if you got lucky you held onto that spot as tightly as you could.
That meant kissing a lot of butt to make people like and keep you around.
I sometimes wonder if people really remember how much of a pain it could really be to find a guild and on top of that a guild able to raid. It was not always fun.
Indeed. I can deal with my toon looking like a clown because to me, rewards make you more powerful in game, not make you look how you want.
As for the buff botting, you only get out what you put in and people should go into classic fully understanding what rolling a hybrid (aside from shammies) means.
Fights like Razuvious do necessitate adaptation, and that adaptation and sum of a group’s parts is far more appealing to me than minimize movement and execute rotation ad nauseum while reacting quickly. In fact, watching that fight is what drew me to WoW.
That’s about the way I see it unfolding, too. Initially, there’ll be a rush of those who played it before and WANT that type of game play + those who came into the game after Cataclysm and want to see what all the fuss is about. Then the game itself will start weeding out the folks until the population remaining in it are the ones who will be there to sustain it.
There should be no concerns about classic competing with current. Two different games, two different targeted audiences, although there will be a small group who will play both.
