A fix to Community Elitism. Getting into keys in S2 is Impossible

I feel you OP. I got KSM pretty early last tier then stopped pushing keys, so first week as a now non-meta spec I struggled to get into anything over a 12 despite being 227 ilvl when 9.1 dropped. And this meant I struggled to get into 14s-15s the week after until I timed some with guildmates and a couple pugs.

But you can’t really police player behavior. It’s supply and demand, all the good players are rushing to get 252 GV slots and also KSM because it’s more relevant now with the Valor system providing high ilvl gear this early in the tier. Pugs are almost always going to take meta specs with utility and players with the highest ilvl and rating, and there are a lot of em in the queue now.

The best solution is to find a community or guild of similarly skilled and like-minded players to run with. Failing that, when you do get into a key try to befriend the good and non-toxic players from that group to build up a small group to run keys with. It’s a slow and annoying process but pugs don’t owe you an invitation because of past success, your perceived skill, or how useful you think your spec is.

They’re gonna do that, though.

I used to have the same problem but I figured out Everytime you time that key it changes to a diff one. Do that enough and you’ll eventually get em all.

I’ll stop you right there.

Ret has a win condition where tanks need to pull around their wings, without wings they suck.

Why bring liability when you can bring something that always works and brings utility?

I love ret, but go prot. I played prot in m+ season 1, and went ret/prot for raid, and ret/holy for pvp. Prot is instant groups for m+ and deals as much damage as ret while being a tank (if you’re Kyrian).

Prot is instant groups if you have a decent raider io score.

I’m maining a healer for the first time this patch. It’s so easy to get into groups :joy:

I see this^^^ all the time.

I’m here to tell you, if that’s your situation then actually run your low keys and build UP you RIO, you know, natural progression, the way it’s meant to be done.

People is not playing with you because at ilvl 224 your score is 1100.

I found best way if you don’t have a good raider io score is to run with guildies.

Just a reminder.

when I listed a DoS +16 key last night, trying to fill one spot, I had over 30 dps sign up in under a minute.

the problem is simply numbers. too few people are willing to host a group. too many people want to sit back and let others do the work of putting a group together. too many people cry about raider.io and elitists when the reality is, they are one small dps fish in a very, very big sea, and there are only so many spots on the boat.

how can you make your situation better?

  1. list your own key
  2. run the key. don’t suck.
  3. invite people you like to your bnet list of friends
  4. over time, you have a pretty big list of people to run future keys with.

this works.

And sit in group finder for the better part of an hour waiting on a tank or healer w/o a zero rating.

This is not correct.

I remember reading a thread a few months ago where a guy returned to this game from a time before M+ existed, tried to get into it as a Resto Druid and wasn’t getting bites for his key. He said people were calling him derogatory words when he tried to invite and was trying to understand how it all works. From all the other stories I’ve read, it doesn’t seem as practical as one may think.

This isn’t true unless the 15 is grossly failed. I forget the metric, but a group has to fail by 25%+ for the score to be completely useless.

yep. that’s one change blizz made with bringing their score in-house. KSM is tied to score not timed dungeons, and failing to hit a timer isn’t a huge penalty. I think when I got my KSM I had several dungeons on the list I hadn’t actually timed.

the argument could be made that we shouldn’t be rewarded for failure, but, well. we are.

No it’s 100% correct. But enjoy never being invited as melee dps #4025202682

If I was really doing M+ this expansion I wouldn’t need to worry about invites as anything, even pugging. This topic doesn’t pertain to me. Even missing half of season 4 in BFA wasn’t hard on me. I lost most of my friends, but I managed just fine considering I came back months late and had no corruption gear.

I don’t care for these dungeons, but if I decide in 2 months to start really running keys I will make it. This glass ceiling is for weaklings.

And your premise is wrong because often the “hybrids” are the best DPS or offer better utility to counter affixes. You’re just wrong.

You not being involved doesn’t make it any less true.

The world does not revolve around you.

This is a simple “you’re still wrong”.
