A couple questions

I just returned to trying classic and had a couple questions I was hoping someone could help me with.

  1. Prot Paladin mana costs: I tried playing Prot pal in a bg on a boosted char and was basically out of mana the entire time even after taking all of the talents to help with it. Is this a gear issue or am I missing something? I’m talking just drained of mana for eternity. Was pretty miserable. Tried using the mana blessing and judge as well but it was minimally helpful.

  2. What happens to vanilla and tbc classic servers when new classic expansions are released? Like can people who just want to play tbc classic still do so or are they now forced into the WotLK classic xpac?

Appreciate any help.

Prot isn’t really a BG spec, even as a flag carrier. Feral does it much better, as does Warrior. Mana is also a problem for Prot when you’re not being healed (Spiritual Attunement talent). At 71 Paladins get Divine Plea, and with a talent deep in Prot it’s essentially up 100% of the time and the, “downside” to the ability is irrelevant for Prot. This is where the mana regen comes from.

Ret actually melts people even in boosted gear. Just get your S4 sword and you’ll essentially two shot other people who aren’t in good gear. Alternatively, you can go Holy since they were massively buffed too.

There are Classic only servers, they opened up these servers and allowed one way transfers (or copies, to keep the original on the progression realm) prior to TBC prepatch. Blizzard decided not to do this for TBC, and all servers are progressing and there are no TBC only servers.

Ah ok thanks makes sense.

Oh wow that seems like a huge slap in the face to anyone who invested time in tbc and wanted to stay there. Actually makes me kinda iffy on wanting to invest time into wotlk if they can just pull the rug out from under me if they ever decide to progress the servers to cata (not likely imo but still). Really disappointing to hear that.

Thanks for the reply.

Protadins have little difficulty with mana in PvE, but their mana recovery relies on their role as tank. They rely on blocking, parrying or dodging (Blessing of Sanctuary), melee attacks (Seal of Wisdom), and healing from a third party (Spiritual Attunement). Blessing of Wisdom isn’t going to cut it. Typically, you’d only use it on casters and healers, not on your own protadin.

Which means that, alas, your protadin is almost always going to be mana starved in BGs, and I’m not sure there’s anything you can do except pick up dual spec and go Ret or Holy for BGs.

Yeah I already went Ret, just wanted to play prot to get used to the spec for aoe leveling and doing dungeons. However I found out that they actually removed random dungeon finder and I can’t queue for bg’s from anywhere so there goes my entire leveling plan lol. Guess I’ll just stick with ret and do quests until I get bored.
