It seemed to me he was arguing for total-player queues, not factional queues. The follow up solution is to offer free transfers to minority servers.
If you mean a faction server cap, that horse has left the barn on current servers, they would have to open new servers so everyone is level one and delay contents release or no one would bother.
If you mean faction queue, forget it, not implementable. What algorithm are you going to use to maintain balance, log in?! So as players log off on one side, layers are kicked off on the other side to maintain the balance.
If you have a server with 10000 players on it that is skewed 70/30 Horde, you would forcing 4000 players into a perpetual queue and cutting off guilds from their members. Even with a free transfer, where do they go, you can’t send them to Heartseeker, because the Alliance are being forced off of that server otherwise you overload server capacity and make all the players wait in 9 hour queues.
New servers you say, how do you balance the level of 60’s to lowbies going over
How do you rebuild guilds, an economy, and in the end you would end up with an excess of horde players, on a completely dead server.
Seriously, all you would be doing is exchanging a larger group of quitters for the current smaller one.
My comment doesn’t advocate for factional queues, so you can write off that portion of your comment. Sever caps, like we have now, but lower, closer to those of vanilla since that is driving a large portion of the problem. I’ll refer you to my previous response.
We are going to run into this over large server population problem whether we want to or not. Do you at least admit that the population will pose a major issue to world PvP?
What do server caps have to do with us PVErs…you do know I started and played, heavily on both sides of Faerlina? I didn’t quit because of Alliance but rather, wpvp is boring…so…
You seem to be going out of your way to find any thread to propogate how samrt you were in choosing Horde. Can we concede that you chose Horde, and are smart? Ok…Good.
Now about the people who weren’t so ‘smart’ and ‘horde’…how do we help them?
They just take their medicine?
For a problem Blizzard started with layers and not having caps at all? Players did create the momentum to join the megaservers, but it takes all sides to create and propagate this mess.
No just lower caps, regardless of faction. Queues. Deal with them. It’s a fair solution.
no I dont think server population size is an issue. I prefer vibrant large servers to low ones.
If all you do reduce the proportion, 70/30 will still be 70/30 whether it is 10000 players or 5000 players.
So on a pvp server you would enhance PvE contents at the cost of PvP contents and still the gankers would remain.
This is not Vanilla where the game had to pick up momentum and players find their path.
Classic hit the ground running full speed, with specific minded players ready to engage in a known quantity of what they wanted to be.
The issue is exacerbated due to the quantity of players, not simply the ratio. A server a quarter or half the size of a current server, even with a skewed faction ratio results in far, far less of the current hellish conditions. The probability of a gank occuring everywhere on the map nears 100% as the population approaches infinity. That’s just probability.
the problem exists only for the suffering side.
So on every pvp server, if you place a cap to lower to population, you are punishing the dominant side, in essence a faction queue.
You want to see subscriptions plummet, try to control and dilute PvP servers.
How is that a faction queue? You said it yourself, if there’s a skew in ratio, then the proportion remains equal. Do you think the vanilla server caps were a faction cap?
You are forcing more of one faction to leave than the other.
70/30 on a 10 grand server means one faction losing 3500 players to the otherside 1500 players, to get it down to 5000. more than a 2 to 1 ratio.
It does what a faction queue would do, punish the dominant side, but worse since you dont even obtain a balance server.
Bigglesworth. A 60/40 H:A server.
Imagine actually being on the losing side, where swapping zones isn’t an option.
You are completely misunderstanding how proportionality works. It’s not “a punishment against the majority”. It’s a proportional scaling down, literally has nothing to do with the faction skew. Do you think that the minority faction players would have any easier a time logging onto the shrunken server?
Or just wait until next week when bgs drops and 99% of the pvpers go there for their honor grinding. Problem will solve itself next week.
That’s included in my original post but ty
Can’t call it punishment if they offer options for the player to fix their problem. Login queues on day 1 weren’t “punishing” people and they are already offering transfers for the dominant faction on a lot of servers.
And if all else fails they can just reroll, since that’s a popular solution for anyone on the non-dominant side, right?
Lols, tell that to the raids going on in Feralas, Winterspring, Western Plaguelands, or Hillsbrad. Our server is actually quite balanced.
Anecdotes vs data. Not a good argument.

That link needs a fix, bud.
Secondly, there are constant alliance raids. Make an alt and come find out. I left Feralas from quests because I got ganked 6 times by the guild Roadhouse at level 42. That was last night/this morning. They’re still ganking this afternoon. So…
By ganking, I literally mean they’re sitting at the edge of town and in the graveyard. Then they’ve also been holding down the bridges to gank there. They tag and kill anything red, doesn’t matter if you were a level 1. They’ve even got a specific rogue, though I can’t name the name on the forums, he’s well known on the server as constantly ganking lowbies in towns such as Kargath as well. He goes to Feralas as well and is in the same guild Roadhouse.
Yet I digress, it’s a pvp server and I completely accept that. You need to as well. Move on like I did.
Cant link on forums, but im sure you can spot the missing part of the link if you squint really hard.
Tilde before and after link.
