A character with the name already exist

Yesterday evening I was in oribos on my priest and went to upgrade my hands. As soon as I clicked upgraded, I got disconnected. Since then, I have lost access to my main character. When I log back in, it either disconnects me, or says a character with that name already exist. I followed all steps recommended, including resetting my user interface, renaming multiple folder, and waiting over 30 minutes for the server to kick my character off. No matter what I do, my character, even 28 hours later is still unable to login.

I am able to access all my other characters. I submitted a ticket, and it was stated I would get a response in 24 hours. It’s now 28 hours and no response.

same thing happened to me but I was swapping a relic in a artifact item! no response to a ticket as well

Unfortunately tickets are taking over 10 days, the statement about 24 hours is not dynamic. Stuck characters usually do get bumped up a bit though, did you try the stuck character service?

Unfortunately, that service does not appear to be working. Every time I go to it, it just attempts to access the page, then refreshes itself. I think it’s ridiculous that between my wife and I we can spend over 700 dollars on blizzard games and services just in the past 3 months, but they can’t have someone take 2 minutes to address a ticket. It shows the level of greed most gaming companies now take when it comes to customer service (which is now just a computer and does not represent any real people).

Many years ago, for instance in the mid 2000’s, game masters actually use to come into games. Now they don’t exist, and players are left in limbo.

Sorry I am ranting, but I am permanently disabled, and don’t have a lot to look forward too, so when stuff like this happens, it’s difficult to deal with.

I’m getting the same thing as well. Spent over 50 dollars for faction change/server transfer and have had this issue since yesterday. Ticket time queue is 17 days and I’m feeling like i just got robbed. Did a clean reinstall, character unstuck, delete/restore character, deleted addons nothing works. Please blizzard fix this ASAP before I dispute these charges with my bank! Character issue is Patcheslol - Area 52

I would caution against this. You’ll land yourself with more issues than you started with.

Yes, tickets are taking a lot longer than players and staff alike are happy with. Right now it’s just a matter of patience until your ticket reaches the front of the queue. Things will eventually sort themselves out and return to their usual 48ish hour turnaround.

They’ve got people answering tickets 24/7. And you’re assuming it will only take two minutes, on top of thinking that you’re entitled enough to jump ahead of all of the I don’t even know how many tickets are jamming up the system right now. What you spend doesn’t make your case a priority over anyone elses. There are people who submitted tickets long before yours and all tickets are answered in the order that they are received. I say all of this with no malice or ill intent, even though my words may be blunt. Just getting that out of the way because tone is very hard to convey in text.

Now, you can feel however you’d like to feel about the situation - your feelings are valid. That part, I am absolutely not disputing. No one is happy with the current wait times. Not the staff and certainly not the players, but the staff is whittling through them as fast as they can. Too many things have caused a literal log jam situation that they are working around the clock to address. And while the personal touch of having a GM pop in to chat with folks to address the issue (I too remember those times fondly), but if that was how they did things now? The log jam would be sizably larger for having to dedicate even more time to fixing issues.

You had no part in that initial log jam situation, but now you’re stuck with dealing with it regardless. Perhaps it is just a hiccup in the matrix and will sort itself out as this patch settles in over the next several hours or if there is maintenance or restarts in the morning. As of me typing this, I don’t see anything announced in that vein, but I’ve just got a feeling we may see some more downtime in the future. (read: This is my own woo-woo prediction, which could be right, could be wrong. We shall all see.)

But I do hope it will clear up for you with any of the fixes coming through over time. I’ve already seen one small download come through after I shut down to reboot. There will likely be more coming. If I see any notes or anything of the sort, I’ll be sure to relay it here.

Since most of these seem older, I’m going to take a leap that these cleared up - if not, do let us know.

This happens when a character is still online. Normally, that self-corrects when it auto logs out. Sometimes you can force a character offline by logging into another on the same realm.

Very rarely something happens that keeps the auto-logout process from happening.

Ive had the problem since pre-patch hit
 still cant get onto m DH, continuous disconnects or I get told the character already exists.

Hi, this has not been resolved, and I have seen a number of post regarding it. The server shows my character offline, but I still disconnect every time I try to log on the character. This character was my main. I have followed every detail, from uninstalling addons and addon manager, resetting user interface, allowing time for character to log off, gone to other realms, used the character stuck feature, and nothing works.

Man i dont think the gms read these posts LOL. Ive done every trouble shooting and im also 3 days locked of my toon now just wasting game time.

No they don’t. There are no GMs on the forums. If you wish a GM to look at your issue, your only option is to open a ticket and wait for the 10 to 14 days.

has not cleared up and as well it says that I got a reply from a post i made, but the message is hidden?

I think they are indicating it’s a bug that GM’s will not be able to fix. Given that it probably is affecting only a smaller number of players, I doubt anything will be done. RIP to our characters.

That generally isn’t how that works, Drogon. This issue is actively preventing some folks from logging into their characters. Such things are always treated as a priority.

I don’t currently have an ETA, but it is being worked on to fix those who are in this situation.

Okay, thank you for the reply. I was under the impression there wasn’t much that could be done. I obviously know how busy the blizzard team is with the patch release, and I have been worried that other issues would take high priority.

I’m sorry if you had that impression. Obviously, it is normal to prioritize issues that are impacting a large portion of the population first, but we have teams of folks, QA, Devs, Engineers, etc
, so they can often work on multiple issues at the same time.

Same issue here. I did it a second time to confirm and it happened again on another character of mine so two characters are locked out.
