Everything you said is very true and its literally something that damages the game more than they know
I’ve also mentioned this in the past that the new 500 otter mount is almost as disappointing as the yeti was. Blizz won’t change it though. I can almost guarantee they won’t. Think about it. When they changed it the first time, it was all sunshine and rainbows since they could claim the whole “listening to feedback” thing. But what happens if they change it a second time? That’s right. They would be outright admitting that no, they clearly weren’t listening at all. And suddenly all those sunshine and rainbows would turn into laughter and ridicule.
Even though the act of changing it to something actually decent would be proof that they’re actually listening, it wouldn’t matter. They screwed up their one chance to replace it with something worthy of 500 mounts but they fumbled and dropped the ball and that’s all anyone will remember.
I do agree with your analysis. However, we don’t know about the other otter mounts. We know there are potentially ten of them and if they are handed out like candy then yes it’s a problem. But if the datamined models are for really complex achievements then maybe it’s okay. We really don’t know enough to get too hot under the collar yet.
I hear you, but let me put it another way:
- There are less yeti recolors than there are otter recolors.
- Blizz has a track record of making some recolors quite easy to get whlst others are locked behind achievements or rng.
- There are enough recolors of the otter to satisfy point 2.
Looking at this objectively, the yeti would have actually been the more desirable/rare mount if they had recolored it something very intense like bright purple with yellow accents.
I’m not sure how to respond to that … too many gaps in my memory to deal with that imagery.
I only have one yeti and no otters currently. It’s hard to see beyond that right now. I have two mounts to go to get the achievement I think… not sure. If the otters are hard to come by though there’s some value in having one right at the start of the expac. If they’re handed out because YAY you hit level cap… then yeah, it’s not so shiny.
Let’s face it, we can all think of ways they could have jazzed up both the yeti and the otter, but they didn’t. They’re unlikely to change it now and this doesn’t seem to be an appropriate hill to die on.
A thought just occured to me. A way in which they can still salvage the shemozzle of the otter mount. Make it fly. Give it some wings like they do for the store mounts that appear when a mount flies and boom! Suddenly it’s the only otter mount out of all them that can fly. That would make it unique.
Yeah that was mentioned higher up in the thread I think, along with just making it spectral.
Or they could make it a swimming mount that works equally as well on land. The turtle currently is the only one that doesn’t dismount you on land but it’s as slow as molasses. If the otter mount could seamlessly traverse both land and sea that would add value.
The armored otter isn’t great, I personally prefer the unarmored model, but it’s still 10000000x better than the yeti they were going to give us. Props to Blizz for listening. They won’t change it again. This is it.
This fan art was uploaded on twitter and it could so good to have something like this for a mount achievement instead of the Otter recolor.
The fact that you need 500 mounts to GET a mount makes me want to stop collecting. Imagine if it were a desirable mount?
So, Blizzard should fix why some players notice this like a barrier… improving mount collecting on other aspects so you can reach 500 eventually.
A lot of other players will see that desirable mount as a goal and start collecting.
This is such an odd thing to get hung up on.
They never will. Because old school gate keepers will begin to whine that newer players are getting their hard earned exclusive mounts through alternative means.
Good.
Devs already added rep increase via TW, there’s a lot of mounts there.
Also, Devs could include back the the satchel of exotic mysteries with some low % mounts:
that item already had low % mounts in there and could have more that are mostly recolors which aren’t that rare.
Devs could implement more mounts in the BMAH and change the rotation, remove some items that don’t do anything there like neck pieces.
Devs could add skip to old raids.
At the end the amount of mounts that should be extreme rare is really low compared to the amount of mounts that are really easy to farm and increase your mounts collected.
See what I mean?
Players like Tovi would rather just feel super special than give newer players any leeway to collect the neat things all this game has to offer.
You are actually dooming WoW. Not the crappy 500 mount design.
I have that kind of power? Neat.
As much power as we all have here, sure.
There’s a million other things to collect, though.
So that means you’re dooming the game too.
