A 2004 Player's less than 30 day Take - Series - WoW Story

MANDATORY DISCLAIMERS

So as stated before this is not spam, I will be doing a different topic every day or every other day.

Yes I really subbed $15 just to post a last few times, a “memoir” style of posts if you want.

If you don’t like what I am saying just move on, please Blizz don’t let people falsely flag.

If you want to attack my credibility or time played just check out my achievements (Undying, multiple feat of strength, etc.)

Sad I have to put those now but here we go!

So since playing since 2004 the gameplay of WoW was always interesting to me. However the big thing that kept me and many others hooked was WoW’s story. Particularly from vanilla to Wrath.

There was an air of mystery in the air when you played vanilla, who was the big bad? Who is this Sargeras guy and Lich king he helped create?

Even in vanilla at the end of naxx when you hear the LK talk but you don’t see him, that’s huge. FUN FACT The original LK voice actor died in a car crash sadly. The voice you hear in the original unedited Naxx is his voice.

But what really lent to the great writing of WoW was you were a nobody, you weren’t the “champion” you were just a random orc with an axe, you were expected to fail. and only through hard work, perseverance and some LUCK were you and 39 other nobodies able to kill the raid boss.

In burning crusade and Wrath even you get closer to the “big bad” in TBC at the end of the expansion you get another glimpse/nod to Sargeras in Sunwell, you haven’t earned the right to fight a god yet.

Finally I think what made OG Wrath so great in addition to it’s balanced gameplay of hardcore/casual was that people wanted to fight/kill the LK. The big bad we had heard since vanilla.

and because WoW devs used to be good writers back then they had the LK show up continuously and mock/confront you over the expansion, really building up that hate and confrontation when you finally make it to the top of the frozen throne. And for us who had played Warcraft since Warcraft 1, 2, and 3, it was a great conclusion.

My opinion alert! I think WoW could’ve/should’ve ended after we killed LK and Blizz could’ve started on WoW 2.

We had saved the world and killed the LK and they could’ve started work on WoW 2 and that could’ve been Sargeras.

There was no need to keep going. Basically 11 expansions later and even with “The War Within” it’s like “oooooh now this is going to be a big bad, we are going underground!”

Meanwhile people like me are like, we’ve killed gods, and even the LK, and now it’s the big bad for real this time?

Also announcing three expansions at once is bad, yes it gives a roadmap but why take this expansion/villain seriously when we know we are already going to win? We must if there are two more expansions after.

Anyway, just my take on WoWs story and why it hasn’t been great since 2009. CATA was really the beginning of the end for me and many others.

A 2004’s WoW Player’s take on the WoW community (That will be fun lol.)

The reason why they showed the next 3 expansion is because they’re all directly linked to one another unlike previous expansions, the next expansion directly builds up on the story.

I feel the being a nobody aspect of it all. When I began playing in TBC, I felt like my character was forging his own path in the world. Today, it’s more like being a lapdog for whomever is currently keeping the throne warm.

“Champion, you need to fix this problem for me. Hero, take care of this issue.” You’d think we could have got at least something in return for it. Maybe a small plot of land to rest on. Nah, just more responsibilities ad nauseum. Maybe they should go fix their own problems for once.

Also because expansions will be shorter

True what did they say? A year to one and a half?

good responses and even though they will make them shorter I don’t think we will ever get that “epic big bad” feeling ever again.

At this point we have killed 3 of 4 old gods, beat back titans but it’s still

“go collect 10 bear butts”

FUN FACT: no he didn’t.

yes he did look it up.

Wrath of the lich king was the last xpac that had its own storyline. If you really look cata was the beginning of the current storyline in retail. The aspects have been involved in some way since cata.

So the announcement about the next 5 xpacs is cool because orignial wow, tbc and wrath were all stand alone story lines.

Don’t really know, but they said the plan is to make it shorter. Probably something like year - year and a half.

So it’s a way to make more money on less content, even more reason not to buy it.

yes

yet we will

What’s the other option every quest leveling up is “defeat this old god or insanely massive threat?” Do you understand how unrealistic that is?

They did start on Wow 2, that’s cata. Wow 3 starts in Legion. It’s difficult to say if Dragonflight is Wow 4 or if that will be the war within.

Having the big bad introduced in the expansion and resolved within the same expansion is more boring. I know they started hinting at the jailor in legion, but he wasn’t really introduced until shadowlands. And they ended it with “he actually wasn’t a true bad guy, he was trying to prevent a bigger evil all along” trope.

post is now restored. geez people need to calm down on the flagging. My posts are NOT SPAM just because you DON’T AGREE WITH THEM.
