911 Need Emergency Help in Game – Mailbox items STUCK can’t loot– character shut down

Hello,

Late last night one of the auctions that I sold got stuck in my mailbox, I’m unable to loot the gold from the sale. I’m also unable to delete the mail. Upon logging in 5 hours later, I discovered that several other items that sold have the same issue.

I then tried sending myself gold from another character and I can’t open that either.

I have all addons disabled/tried deleting the cache folder and still won’t work – so my character is essentially locked from working the Auction House as a result of this.

I opened an in game ticket regarding the issue, but wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing.

Is there any possibility of someone seeing this @blizzard and please nabbing the attention of someone who could assist asap? I would appreciate it, very frustrating.

Update: after deleting the cache folder, I tried the following:

  1. Turned off all addons.
  2. Sent gold from another character to the stuck character as a test (this also was unable to be looted)

Then: I tried sending gold from the stuck character to another character and upon doing this the 3 “stuck” transactions from the AH cleared out, and I received 3 immediate messages in red at the top of my screen saying “internal database error.”

I then tried canceling a few auctions from the stuck character and I can now use my mailbox again, HOWEVER I never received the gold from those 3 sold auctions that gave the errors. Updated my ticket and those just need to be restored and I’ll be in good shape.

And yes, I already tried to self service feature for mail recovery, those 3 transactions don’t appear in the list.

(And no my character in question is nowhere near having gold cap)

Have you done a proper reset UI as Perl suggested.

I suspect this is more of a UI issue. If you don’t want to give up the three folders involved, Cache, WTF and Interface, you can move them - or rename them - and restore them after testing.

While not usually part of the normal reset UI - personally, I also reboot my machine, just to make sure everything is cleared.

Hey Orlyia,

I wouldn’t say its a UI issue no because while having all addons disabled etc as I described above I still had no control over my mailbox. It was only after I sent gold to another toon that it freed the problem mail up and at the same time deleted the gold from 2 other auctions that had sold hours after I first experienced the issue – and that I had not touched.

I also described how the problem first started 5 hours ago before I got some sleep, and the PC was shut down during that time.

Thankful to have control over my mailbox, but:

  1. I still need in game assistance for the thousands of gold lost with those 3 sold AH items that disappeared. (for clarity: this issue started with a single AH sold item before going to bed, and then 2 others sold in the hours after I logged off)

  2. This needs to be forwarded to the appropriate team to look at to prevent it from happening to other players and not chalked up to an “ui” issue.

Your ticket is open, a GM can look into the gold - but it will likely be awhile.

Disabling addons is NOT a reset UI. There are changes that addons can make that are persistent, even if they are disabled.

As Orylia said, disabling addons is not a UI reset. You need to move the three folders mentioned, or simply rename them something like “Old”. Then, completely shut down the game and restart it. That will give you a fresh, unaltered UI.

And it’s possible that it’s not a UI issue, but these steps need to be done as a first step. Much like an IT person will ask if your computer is plugged in and turned on.

It doesn’t make sense why you are focusing on a RESET UI conversation when I was able to find a fix for it not doing said suggestion. No need to continue on and on about something when it’s unrelated to the problem at hand – its not productive and a waste for other people having the same issue.

But you didn’t find a fix. You said that you’ve lost gold, but internally, you may have picked up the gold and an addon is blocking it from your view. Also, finding a “fix” when the root problem may not be solved can cause more problems.

Again, this is a first step. If it’s done, and the problem still persists, then they can move to the next steps. In fact, I almost guarantee that when your ticket is answered (in 6-8 days), that will be the first thing they suggest, as well. So it’s best to have done it now, and they can immediately move on if it doesn’t work.

It’s very simple, while one can suggest a complete UI reset – if someone is able to fix that issue without doing said reset then why exactly are you harping on about trying it over and over? It’s overkill and unrelated.

The UI reset wasn’t going to solve the gold being deleted as it gave an “INTERNAL DATABASE ERROR” that has nothing to do with UI that’s a Blizzard error.

Also a UI reset won’t recover lost gold, so I doubt they will suggest that and move on - as I now will be and you probably should too.

This isn’t a post to debate UI resets as I’ve already done the testing and clarified fixes were made without them. (unlocking a completely unusable mailbox to now having a usable one)

Buddy, you always do the basics first because that often solves the problem for the majority of players. Do you argue with your tech support rep about restarting your modem? You gotta remember you came here asking for help and people are trying to help. If you’re unwilling to do what’s suggested then nobody can help you and you’re wasting everyone else’s time.

Yeah, I’ve fixed my internet connection without restarting my modem too. That doesn’t mean nobody should ever restart their modem ever again. Nobody is debating anything. People are trying to help and you’re being rude for no reason when you asked.

If your gold is ‘missing’ - then the issue has not been resolved, and indeed could very well be a UI issue. I’ve not seen a single report like this. If this was a system issue, there WOULD be others reporting the same.

While a UI reset wouldn’t recover gold - if it is simply a matter of it not reflecting, yes, that it would fix.

That’s why that is a very important step in a case like this. You are welcome to leave your ticket open - but that is very likely to be the first thing the GM asks you to do.

Except your “solution” only “fixed” part of the problem. You said yourself the mail gave errors, and you didn’t see the gold added to your total.

As for the “bug”, you need to file a bug report. The GM who answers your ticket doesn’t take bug reports. Neither does Orlyia.

sounds like a gold cap to me and once u sent off gold, u then autolooted mailbox, hope u get an answer soon though, gl

You may be surprised how many issues are honestly solved by a simple UI reset. It doesn’t solve everything, and even Orlyia said it “could” be, not that it was. And even then, she isn’t a GM. She is a SFA - someone whose focus is on the forum. When and where they can, they sometimes are able to look into a character, but that isn’t something that is guaranteed.

You were given advice at the face value of things, especially since issues like yours now that you know what exactly the issue was - they require a GM’s assistance. There just are not any GMs that come to this forum, as it’s one for players to assist other players.

No matter how you viewed it to be a “911 Need Emergency Help!!!”, you are not entitled to be assisted any faster than those other people who were in the queue ahead of you, and certainly posting here wasn’t going to get you what you wanted. People here tried to give you the best and easiest things to knock out first, to see if the simplest solutions would take care of your issue. It was worth a shot to try it since no matter what you said or did, your ticket would not be answered any quicker.

I’m fine with waiting for my ticket to be answered, there isn’t a rush to that. The rush was trying to figure out why my mailbox was completely locked.

Facts remain: don’t hastily rush to criticizing someone when they point out that advice given was worthless and unrelated.

I’m not criticizing, unlike you. You came in here to slap out at people who honestly wanted to try and help you. Yours was one of the few cases that could not be solved be the UI reset. The advice offered was sound for what data we had. It was unfortunate that your issue is outside of that spectrum that an easy fixe was just that.

Hopefully there won’t be too much longer a wait on your ticket and that they’ll be able to get everything fixed for you.
