9.1 PvP Gearing and why it is BAD

What’s wrong with 600+ arena wins just to get baseline gear?

I took your advice about Bloomsday lol. I don’t come here often, only reason I did is because someone linked me Revo’s post. Good to see you as a forum MPvP too. You were always active on the forums.

I agree. If they’re going to do this, it needs to be done all out. Take rating requirements off, get back to where you get a bigger weekly cap or something with a higher rating. Eventually everyone catches up, if you’re pro, you gear fast.

At this point, just make all of the gear normal raid ilevel in pve and mythic ilevel in pvp like it was in wod. It was still useful enough to do pve content, but if you wanted to push, you’d eventually phase into your actual pve gear from drops. It even incentivized a lot of people who otherwise weren’t participating to give it a shot.

The system worked. The downside was that we had to have two sets of gear. Introducing this system reintroduces that downside. Don’t go half way into the system trying to feel like you’re alleviating that, when really just making pvp gear arbitrarily bad again.

which is why we want warriors gutted to the ground come 9.1.

Fully agree with everything you mentioned Revolol. Also ignore the usual trolls in here like Bloomsday.

Most people have two sets of gear anyway, even under the current system. Most specs don’t favor vers in PvE. So really, they aren’t even creating a “new” problem with going back to a true WoD style system like you describe. There’s no reason not to do it.

thank you revo, and to anyone else speaking up about this - I got baited into resubbing when I saw the PTR drop because I finally saw what I thought was “”“wod gearing”"" only to find out it wasnt.

they need to just make ilvl static across all sets of pvp gear for their respective rarity (honor, conquest, and while we’re at it, perhaps they could bring back craftable pvp gear as a means of gear at fresh 60, since they are now using scaling). I just want to be able to log in and play with what little time I have anymore, and I cant until the REAL WoD system comes back.

OP nailed it. We absolutely need to have a honor set and conq set. Let’s make arena great again and set a level playing field where skill gets the rating.

And rankoneboost

No we don’t, the reason why many people love wow pvp is the push for better rating for gear. It helps you become a better pvper. This isn’t a moba this is a mmorpg… One of the points of the game is gearing. Get better at the game and the higher ilvl gear won’t be hard to get.

Ya and look at how dead the arena ladder is rn. I’ve never had an issue pushing rating whenever I’ve tried, doesn’t mean that rating locking gear is good for the game. People should be able to learn and get better without something arbitrary as an ilvl gap being in their way on top of the learning curve.

Keep that mmorpg garbage in PvE where you can have all the progession you want. Also fyi, with the WoD system there still is progression. People love WoW arena because it’s unique, not because of grinding gear, get outta here with that lmao. I dunno what to say if you actually believe that’s why people love WoW PvP.

Actually the reason many people love wow pvp is the rating push and outplaying your opponent. I mean yeah gear is cool but at the end of the day we prefer skill over gear and xmogs or mounts depending on who you are. The mmorpg excuse doesn’t really work when WoW itself has been pulling away slowly from that MMO aspect Expac after Expac.

Most of my friends who got 2.4-2.5 in the first few weeks (who are now STILL 2.4-2.5) said they love having gear advantage because they play more. It seems the people who want a FAIR game are pretty much the people on the forums its actually pretty crazy.

I just couldn’t believe how many people want gear progression over a fair game it blows my mind.

This mentality runs new arena players away from the scene. I agree getting that new ilvl unlock for your hard work does feel good. But it just is not healthy for this aspect of the game. You can get just as good a feeling from aesthetic rewards.

I would rather have new arena players have the same gear as r1s so they don’t just give up. Otherwise this aspect of the game is doomed.

I know it seems that way but the forum goers are not the only ones that do not like the way things are with gear right now. I cannot for the life of me remember how dead LFG for arenas has been on ally and horde during prime time even in the least played seasons I have experienced in the past. I am sure there are those that like that gear advantage but from what I have noticed it doesn’t seem like they are the majority in fact it seems they are far from the majority.

Good morning friends, glad to see how this has blown up

Two tiers with set item levels would be great, but they would need to make it on par with the equivalent PvE gear - which will never happen because PvP gear will seep into PvE and PvE’rs will complain. Adding the scaling means we can get ( statistically ) better PvP gear without “adversely affecting” PvE.

Personally, I like the scaling. You can still get the honor gear and it will be fine for low end PvE content but it won’t suffer as much in PvP because they can scale it up without affecting anything else :woman_shrugging:

You can have one set IL for all rating like have the conquest set be normal raid IL outside of pvp combat and then have it scale to 259 IL in pvp combat bgs arenas etc. I believe 259 is the HIghest IL gear in 9.1 outside of Legos I think you can correct if wrong. That way it won’t be better in higher difficulty pve applications. In return to make up for the higher ratings not giving higher IL gear just make it so the higher rating you are the bigger your conquest cap is so you get the gear faster. I think this solution would make the majority happy between both the pvp and pve community at large since they won’t do a pvp specific stat.

I’m glad to see the majority of people agree that this change is just not good. To those who think I’m catering to the 0.01% or whatever, realistically this change has next to no impact on me and and other r1 players, but it’s just plain bad for the community in general and for those who want to try to get into high rated PvP. It really sucks to see from my POV that participation is dying and people aren’t excited to try to get into arena because of something as easily fixed as this. Ty all for the support, I really hope we get this changed
