This part resonates with me. There were a number of classes I played with in WoD that I had no interest to invest in before.
No reason to make personal attacks that distract from the topic at hand.
I had success prior to legion and I stopped taking the game seriously in BFA thanks to welfare glad.
My point still stands that you and bloomsday are the minority in an overwhelming sea of players who want a level playing field.
This is super well worded and hit the nail on the head across the board.
This is worse than our current system in every single way.
It addresses issues that don’t exist and only punishes anyone who attempts to do more than one form of content.
The issue this expansion is the “MMO gear progression” is crazier than it ever has been before. The per-rank-ilevel jump is significantly higher than it ever has been in previous expansions. Previously your gear would increase your overall power, in the course of one season, by like 10% or so. This expansion you literally double / triple your damage with the gear.
This extreme gear difference between ranks creates massive play imbalances, encourages boosting, and discourages ALT character PVP play.
They can keep the progression system, it just needs to be squished on the PVP side like this:
PVE level
200
207
213
220
226
Combined with 1 of the 2
- PVP level (this favors PVP players)
231
233
235
237
239
or
- PVP level (this favors PVE players)
218
220
222
224
226
This way unranked conquest gear and max ranked conquest gear is only 8 levels in difference in PVP scenarios. Currently it skyrockets by 7 ilevels per rank, creating a huge 26 ilevel difference.
Yupppp. Literally in WoD I had 10 max level geared characters, and played 5-6 different classes. Was INFINITELY more fun, and I wanted to log on every day.
Revolol for president, with this only change is all we need
Absolutely this! You weren’t restricted to your most geared character…I played resto druid, monk, priest… what ever I wanted! Now I fear for my alts that I want to learn PvP with…
OK let’s break this down for the devs.
Almost every 2400+ player doesn’t think gear should matter in PvP because:
A) It already doesn’t for them (everyone they play is 226 as well).
B) They want to know when they won it was because they played better than their opponents.
C) They aren’t worried about what they can achieve in PvP without a gear advantage.
D) They understand the importance of alts to the PvP ladder.
Why shouldn’t every single player participating in PvP be afforded the same experience? is it right that only players who are 2400+ get to expect games on an even playing field? Doesn’t everyone participating in PvP from the bottom of the ladder to the top deserve to have the same quality experience in PvP?
For 6 years (MoP-Legion) everyone could get equal gear in PvP and PvP was completely fine. Before that there was not huge gaps in power as I distinctly remember in TBC and WotLK players in blue gear being at the top of the ladder. Try that now. It would be impossible.
PvP gear disparities only returned in BfA for absolutely no reason. See this quote from Holinka as proof that PvP was alive and well ~2 years into gear being equalized:
https://ibb.co/LQcjXNL
Now we have gear disparities with huge gaps in power for no reason. You went from this philosophy around PvP gear (see below 5:27 and on) to the exact opposite for no reason whatsoever. Please note Holinka is talking about moving to templates here, but at this point it’s clear you will not go back to that so WoD gearing is the next best. The main point of the clip is that it was understood there should not be huge power gaps in PvP:
After 6 years of a successful PvP gearing model you essentially did a complete 180 on your gearing philosophy between Legion and BfA and all it has done is hurt PvP. Please just return to WoD gearing where all conquest and honor gear is the same item level when engaged in PvP. It’s right thing to do for every player that competes in WoW PvP whether it be random battlegrounds, 1200 arena, or an AWC tournament.
I too would love the return of the full WOD gearing system. It was the most fun I had with PVP in WoW’s history. I could gear up and PVP on a character within a week or two after hitting max level, and be meaningfully competitive.
I had 8 classes I swapped around to PVP on and loved it.
I’m the kind of player that likes to play all the characters in games like Overwatch / HOTS, so someone like me is hurt by PVP gearing in WoW.
I started the season late (school). PvP experience has been awful - I expect to basically be a tickly feather at the start but I cannot be bothered to grind out the honor needed to fully upgrade stuff then do it again for conquest gear. Excruciating if I want to even think about playing a second character in pvp.
Back to other games I goooo.
Not a surprise, blizzard fails at Class / system design now days.
Yeah, high ratings should just reward a small advantage. Like a better weapon for people’s e-peens perhaps. Having such a big gap between the various tiers isn’t fun.
if they insist so much on putting the best gear tied to ratings, why don’t they freaking lower the ilvl difference, like you do 4 ranks for the gear, and each new rank gives 3 ilvl so honor gear would be lvl 200, max conquest gear 212
This needs to be its own post.
Agreed make a new post with this
Edit: needs more attention than it will get here
its sad that i can’t like your post more than once!
+1
Even playing field in arena, couldn’t care less what happens outside of arena. By fair I mean maximum 8 ilevels of scaling between someone in fresh honor gear and someone in full max level conq.
Agreed. Conquest gear regardless of upgrade rank should be maxed in pvp, same with honor. Make them a few ilvls apart. Call it a day.
Leave the upgrades to ensure the raiders don’t complain about pvp gear being best in pve.
We all know this only happened because pvp gear was easy to obtain and was desirable. We cannot be having that (but farming mythics to be pvp viable is totally fine!).
Keep this post towards the top until actual changes are made on PTR.
Bumpity Bump Blizzard.
