I honestly believe that’s exactly what they’re doing. Which is why I’m not overly “against” it. They still need to adjust some Pantheon somewhere a bit but that’s probably easier than sticking in a deity. Just my opinion though I definitely could be misinterpreting.
I don’t think it’s necessarily the “right” solution, but I think doing it does check off some boxes that are positive, so I just can’t get too mad about it. It isn’t my preferred solution but I think it might be viable short term.
If Elune is the “sister” (and not Eonar, Freya, or literally anyone else), I’m cancelling my subscription and even saying F*** YOU to the Burning Crusade Classic. Ion should be found and tried for his crimes.
Yet, little do they realize, this just means the Alliance has yet another Cosmic Pantheon that leans toward their themes and lore.
There’s a saying in Spanish, “lo roto por lo descosido”, the ripped through the unstitched, meaning if you don’t mend/stitch your clothes correctly, the hole will get worse.
I truly do not get how being of Eternal Tier (which would place Elune on the same roster as Titans and Void Lords) is “Reducing Her”? We are literally discussing beings so powerful they can create and destroy worlds, and who’s duties are Universal in scale. Hell, none of those beings of even that Tier have chosen children they dote over and guide, so the NEs being one would still make them absurdly rare and special.
Well, we have already put an eternal down, without any assistance. It’s of course possible that Elune is a lot more powerful than Denathrius or the Jailer, but if she’s not, yea that’s a bit of a letdown, for being a “true god”.
Right, all I said was that it makes more sense to me that a being of the Eternal Tier (especially one of the Life Cosmology, which Elune might be if she is of that tier) has that sort of bias and is prone to preferential treatment of races and cultures that coincide with her nature. And that her being unable to save the NEs, but finding a use for them with the WQ (rather than being some omnipotent being that just had greater plans, that just let them die) comes off as more reasonable. Especially since Elune has always been a passive force, never this blunt force powerhouse that seems expected.
Its the NE players that are having the big issue, because apparently being the ONLY chosen people we know of of even an Eternal Tier being … is not “Special Enough”. And if Elune turns out to be a First One … fine. But if she turns out to be the Spring and Summer to the WQs Fall and Winter … it would seem perfectly reasonable.
Ignoring doomsayers, I find that you have more of an issue than anyone else. Much like in Ethriel’s Ardenweald thread, you’ll pivot towards any direction you can take to try to make Night Elves look bad, and have openly admitted here that it’s because you just don’t like them.
So this might be upsetting to some folks, but I do think that anytime the experience fails to live up to that fantasy, it causes Night Elf players to be upset.
On one hand I get it I guess. What good is all this awesomeness if they’re not totally awesome? They’re not the best at something they are “supposed to be” and it doesn’t matter that they’re still the best at everything else.
On the other hand, it’s completely unsustainable in an MMORPG for one race to get to be simply “better.” If they’re always the best then they always win, which means basically no one else ever can.
The entire Horde army had an 8 to 1 ratio over the Night Elf forces. They had a top tier character of the Horde (I don’t know where Sylvanas fit power-wise then due to Jailer shenanigans) as well as Saurfang and Nathanos (whatever - our heroes suck). And Night Elves were upset to heavily stall the Horde before losing. I get it, defensive positions, know the terrain, wisps, Elune, forest fighting, druids, …
So they fail to be awesomeness personified and it’s unfair. I’m not justifying the war or burning Teldrassil or anything, but for the game sake Night Elves kinda need to be on the same level as everyone else.
Lol, what? They’re not making Elune lesser at all. Her being on the same “cosmic level” as titans and eternal ones doesn’t diminish her or her worshippers.
She is still a very well worshipped and powerful goddess- the Kaldorei, Shu’halo, apparently Zandalari and more worship her. Nothing is being diminished…she is just getting a more defined picture.
And even then we don’t know if she is exactly pantheon tier- though that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
If people cared this much about one fantasy religion being “better” than the others you’d think that we’d have seen more people up in arms about the fact that the only way to get spared Hell was to worship Bwonsamdi but apparently a Troll religion being “right” isn’t a problem
Your statements just match Droité’s pinball posts bouncing back and forth between arbitrary analysis trying to prove that the Night Elves are not that strong and then pivoting to complaints about how the Night Elves are shown to be just that strong indeed.
The issue is less that and this solution actually exacerbates another problem, the Alliance disproportionately has more ties to more cosmic pantheons:
Pantheon of Order:
Aman’thul, created the Well of Eternity, caused Night Elves to exist, and “sped up” Tauren formation
Eonar, her keeper Freya shaped the Dream, root of Night Elf Druidry
Norgannon, created Mimiron, father of Gnomes
Khaz’goroth, created the other Titan-forged, thus father of Humans and Dwarves
Aggramar, created Tyr which is one of the two roots of Human Light-worship, and Grond, who is the father of Orcs
Sargeras, responsible for the corruption or fall of Orcs, Blood Elves, and Draenei
Added: Five of these Titans gave the Night Elves the Pillars of Creation.
Pantheon of Death:
The Arbiter - neutral
Archon - her form is the root of Odyn’s Valkyrja and later Lich King’s Valkyr, and thus there’s a Vrykul tie-in for Humans
Winter Queen - Elune’s sister, Night Elves, token Troll relevancy due to the Wild God Loa; Ardenweald had been invaded by Drust before so Kul Tiran tie-in
Denathrius - creator of Nathrezim, thus responsible for the corruption or fall of Orcs, Blood Elves, and Draenei
Primus - father of necromancy and thus the Undead/Forsaken (though this hasn’t been explored at all)
Zovaal - creator of Frostmourne/Helm, thus Human and Orc tie-in, and responsible for the Forsaken and Blood Elves
And now, hypothetical Pantheon of Life:
Elune - Night Elf goddess, partial root of Worgen curse
Hypothetical Void Pantheon
Alleria/Void Elf tie-in
Cult of Forgotten Shadow so Forsa-- oh wait, Natalie Seline was made a Human
Hypothetical Light Pantheon
Naaru relation - so Draenei, Blood Elves (because of Draenei), Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Worgen, Kul Tirans, Lightforged
Hypothetical Chaos Pantheon
??? well only races with any Demonic corruption are Orcs and Blood Elves; and only culture that socially accepts dark magic of this nature are Forsaken, and yet
We didn’t get an “Ancestor Land” in Shadowlands, and now with Elune as a Pantheon member we are likely never getting an An’she (let alone one that looks Tauren or uses themes from non-Western cultures as the Horde does).
This literally just guarantees Alliance has a tie-in to yet another Pantheon while leaving Horde high and dry, so the solution makes the hole worse
Only the Night Elves are stated to worship Elune; the Tauren only believe Musha = Elune and this has not been “confirmed” in the narrative. Nor the Zandalari.
In fact, this adds another problem:
Elune's real name is Elune, it is her proper name, not a "Darnassian word for Moon", Musha/Lun'al are "wrong"
People are allowed to talk in their own languages. Just simply because Mu’sha is what the Tauren call Elune doesn’t diminish their worship. It has 100% been confirmed that the person Tauren call Musha is in fact Elune.
And the words Elune are literally what the balance druids for Zandalari are called. Then we have the various races of the cosmos that also worship her. Elunaria.
There is no reason to diminish these because they use their own languages. Nothing about it is “wrong”.
And this ultimately doesn’t diminish Elune is any sort of way, even if she ends up being the same cosmic level as titans and eternal ones.
