We know much more about Elune. She has a name, a bunch of people worship her and we see her power manifest in searing starbeams on peoples’ faces
The First Ones seem to be dead and long gone. They are a different sort of god than your Elune or Winter Queen or Nor’gannon. Shoving Elune into that rule Just Because would be a square peg in a round hole narratively speaking.
I’m not moving goalposts, I’ve been pretty clear in my thoughts for… a long time now. Making the kaldorei the one chosen people of what is apparently the highest and most powerful being in all of creation is silly. Especially since it has, so far, counted for nothing in the narrative.
Making her the Winter Queen’s sister allows for a measure of parity, the Winter Queen is already quite powerful, and it helps to explain Elune’s limits. It helps show why she can do these miracles but can’t always do everything. The Winter Queen is powerful enough to hold an entire afterlife together as it’s starved of anima through sheer force of will. An entire plane of existence. Elune being the stronger sister, but still her sister, would mean she’s stronger than pretty much anything except a fully fledged Titan, of which it took only one to create entire races.
Moreover, in the old lore, the Night Warrior held sway over the spirits of the kaldorei dead. Her being the Winter Queen’s sister fits a lot better with old lore than her being some First One does.
That makes her all the more mysterious: she has a Titan relic named after her, but allegedly created the Naaru, is able to take souls to the Shadowlands, empower someone to be her avatar of vengeance, and able to turn demons back to mortals.
Unfounded.
It isn’t silly if other races were to also be tied to other First Ones, again, like An’she, a solar god, he’s right there, stated to be Elune’s brother
*squints * where
That’s your prerogative but this just firmly confirms when the Lifelands expansion rolls around, only Night Elves will be relevant probably lol
Now you’re the one moving goalposts. Holding together a plane of existence likely takes a massive amount of power, especially if she’s on par with, say, Kyrestia. There was a bug in SL beta where a Warlock could kill Kyrestia using some glitch. When she died, a message appeared stating all life in Bastion was wiped out. Meaning she was the one holding all the life together there as well.
Making Elune the Winter Queen’s sister, one unfettered by holding an entire plane of reality together, and making her stronger besides, makes her more than powerful enough to be a true god, combined with her ability to hear prayer.
Making night elves a chosen race of a creator of all reality means that other races no longer matter nearly as much in the cosmic scale. While making Elune on the same tier, if upper, as the Winter Queen means she shares a tier with the Titans as well, making night elves aligned in terms of cosmic importance with humans, dwarves, orcs, and so on.
Simple, where do people think Elune’s domain resides if she is the WQs sister? I would wager she’s not of the Shadowlands, but of a mirror realm to Ard within the Life Cosmology. Representing the Spring and Summer of Life to Ard’s Fall and Winter. Which would also make her the Older sister, as you can’t really have “death” without “life” first. Which is what Freya based the Emerald Dream off of (as its no longer that she created from nothing, but tapped into something grander already there. Shaping it the Dream in its Image).
And we have Elune. A being DEEPLY involved in the denizens of Azeroth’s Emerald Dream. The one had a child with Melorne, Cenarius. Who named Ysera his Godmother. Who plucked Ysera from her twisted form and delivered her to Ardenweald, despite it being a place for those born of the Life Cosmology. Ysera has a long history and personal relationship with the Mother Moon. Something she never did with Eonar, as Eonar did not even choose Ysera to be an aspect herself. That was Freya. Eonar was essentially just a battery for Freya’s choice (and Freya as a Titan Keeper only is no equal to the WQ). Thus, Ysera is a “pet” of Elune.
I’m not a particularly big Night Elf fan and I don’t really care if they are the chosen race of some super powerful god. I haven’t been afraid of gods since Ulduar.
Not Plane. Plane is the Shadowlands. Realm is Ardenweald.
Actually no. The First Ones are a group. Elune would’ve been just one member of that group. Other members may have “chosen” other races, like Tauren and Orcs or whatnot.
And multiple races across the cosmos are already her “chosen people” as well.
Yes but Elune neither made her an aspect nor is she her “pet”.
Yes, well, I’m trying to think of the long term story at large, and between the choices presented, her being in the same realm as the Winter Queen makes far more sense and fits far better with the lore.
To an embittered sister, Ysera may as well be a pet that Elune was dumping into her domain. Forcing her to take care of. And Eonar never had ANY sort of relationship with Ysera. She may have given the power to turn her into an Aspect, but it was Freya who made that choice. At best, Eonar’s only relationship with Ysera is of a Producer throwing money at their Director Freya to help Freya with her pet project. Nothing more, nothing less. Elune in contrast has a long history and relationship with Ysera. For goodness sake, she named Ysera her son’s Godmother and circumvented the Arbiters system to shepherd her soul to Ardenweald.
Fine, you want it in the simplest terms. Ysera is of the Emerald Dream. First and foremost she was made that when she became an Aspect. And we know that Freya fashioned and connected the Emerald Dream to something far more fundamental that already existed, she didn’t create it out of thin air. Thus, if I’m right, and Elune’s domain is in the Life Cosmology (the Spring and Summer of Life) … then she literally is the original source of the Emerald Dream and ANY being of the Dream finds their roots in/of her. Wild God, Loa, AND Ysera.
EDIT: And remember, Ardenweald is a domain of Life and Death. So too should its complement be.
So Elune makes the Trolls, decides they suck and “perfects” a handful to Night Elves? And a bunch of Wild Gods are thus even more dumb for not being pro Elune Worshippers?
We don’t have any idea what made Trolls, but it is very clear that many Loa have similar roots that Wild Gods do. But since Elune is “Picking Favorites” no matter what, I’m not exactly sure how its worse that an Eternal Tier Being picking those favorites is somehow worse than a First Ones Tier Being doing the same? Frankly, if she is of the Life Cosmology, it would make sense that she’d be predisposed by her very nature to favor those that more heavily represent the Spring and Summer of Life. Which … looking at the perpetually verdant giant deciduous forests of Cenarius and the NEs … they sure as hell do. If she’s above an Eternal Tier (and is a founder of the cosmologies themselves) then such a bias honestly comes off worse to me.
