9.1 Issue - Open Map Causes game to stutter when walking

WoW just started an update I hope this fixes it.

Spoiler alert, it didn’t fix it.

Just tested (9.1.0.39291) on version (9.1.0.392989) “latest” was having 120+ frames on oribos and Korthia and some stutter and fps drop when I opened the map, now the stutters and fps drop continues and my fps are on 50-80 on oribos and Korthia whats going on?

A massive drop of fps at Ember Court

You’ve summed it up quite well and I feel your pain.

Just standing in the Korthia base area I’m at ~90 FPS, if I open the map it drops to ~70ish, it bounced between ~65 and 75 a couple of times a second.
It’s much worse at a flight master, then it drops to ~30!
At least we aren’t trying to fight while talking to them!

Good definition of the problem, i’m getting the same stutter when doing WQ and killing enemies, isn’t only the map.

So I figured out a solution for my issue. It seems the Max Foreground FPS setting was set to 8 and the checkbox to enable the setting was set Compared settings on another computer and Max Foreground FPS was also set to 8 FPS but there was no check to enable the setting. Unchecking the option or cranking up the Max Foreground FPS setting resolved my problem. Still really puzzled how it got enabled or dialed down so low in the first place since I haven’t adjusted my graphics settings in at least 6 months…

Afterward todays update it’s slightly better. Slightly, but the probably still exists. Opening map doesn’t take like 15 FPS drop now, it’s only like 6, so this is a step in the right direction. Hopefully this along with quest progress gets fixed.

Please remember, this only affects characters who are in 9.1 at least with my experience on 2 characters now. My DK just got to Shadowlands last night and doing world quests / opening map has zero issues, same with my Paladin.

Maybe focus on the 9.1 campaign itself being a possibly issue causing map stutter, or even Korthia?

Just to add - this is still occurring as of 7/4. Not limited to just opening the map, though there is a consistent stutter with the map open. Occurs when accepting quests and when WQs pop. Extremely frustrating.

tried it, didnt fix it, same fps drops in korthia and oribos. :S is getting frustrating

Still suffering from this myself. Was only happening in SL zones but now it’s happening in raid. Killed shriek last night with no issue. Doing hunts now it happens every fight. Just can’t play under these conditions. This is rather ridiculous.

Btw the character I’m doing this on is a character that has done the 9.1 skip.

I would like to add to this if not mentioned earlier, im getting the exact same problem, in thorgast as well.

When ever the empowered meter is filled, or reaching the point of activation with the graphic on the side, i suffer from the same stuttering until i activate empowered and drain the bar and stop the graphic from running.

Everywhere else, buttery smooth.

So I’ve seen some say that this only is happening in shadowland zones, however I tested this out with zones outside of shadowlands. The issue does go away but if you go into your map and choose anywhere in the shadowlands to look at, it does the same problem regardless of where you are. So it definitely has something related to mapping those zones specifically.

I’m honestly curious. I say this is related to 9.1 characters because it’s NOT happening to my alts who haven’t started 9.1. Can anyone else confirm? I feel like we need to corner this issue as best as we can.

9.1 Character - Issues
Both characters sub 9.1, but STILL in Shadowlands - No Issues.

They are working on a fix already, if you scroll up in the thread a bit

Let’s hope they fix it soon. It really is annoying not being able to do anything without the game freezing, trying to world pvp with 20 people in these servers + opening your map completely destroy the experience. Thanks for the help

I’m having this issue as well. The small patch they released doesn’t seem to be for this issue either. It’s pretty rhythmic with how it happens too instead of just random skipping when framerate is low like it’s a data retrieval error when the map is open or when accepting quests. Hopefully they figure it out soon.

-P.S. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the graphics settings. Even when dropping graphics resolution or any other setting really low issue still happens. No add-ons are enabled either.

i tried this, but for me it was the “targeted FPS” setting that got set to 8… i unchecked it and seems to be good now… not saying its THE FIX but it worked for me

While you guys are at it, mind also fixing the stuttering while moving from one zone to another and stuttering randomly when zone text pops up? been an issue since 8.3 release.

Please fix this for the love of god
