It could be overcome easily by rendering effort. I get it, it’s hard. Many has been with WoW for years. Are you not gonna learn from your previous adventures? Step up and overcome the challenges. There’s levels of difficulty. There are lower levels that fits you. Dont be a chicken… face it and beat it.
What do you mean? That M+15 players would run M+0s to boost their Valor? If you are stupid, do that. M+15 players are seeking upgrade from End of Dungeon Loots. Loots that drop from M+0 would require 12x upgrades… tons of Valor. An M+15 player would rather farm M+10s to 12s not M+0s, fyi. The End of Dungeon Loots at higher keys would require less Valors to upgrade.
194-197 might be decent for starting PvE, but it’s crap gear for PvP.
Glads, boosters, RBG heroes all have 226+ and are a common sight even in lower brackets. Even for nonrated PvP, a 226+ player can basically 1v3 or 1v4 in a random BG setting.
In no way is this true. In BFA alone, you could reach Herioc with a little bit of luck. And it was much easier to gear up. Meanwhile, in Shadowlands the solo gear is below Normal and just slightly above LFR.
Yeah sure tell that to the 500 people on earth who still play quake. Nobody rises to the challenge. If they did, they wouldn’t be playing a videogame. They’d be studying theoretical physics or curing cancer or something. People play games to relax and have a good time. Some like to compete, but they basically just like to win and feel good. And you can still do that without having it be so punishing or exclusive. Past versions of WoW were still “competitive” at the top end, but everything was hilariously easy for the most part. People still found a way to make it a contest, but it was a LOT less exclusive and punishing than it is now. And it had a much larger fanbase. I don’t think that is a coincidence at all. I think we see this trend over and over in games.
If new players come in and see the massive gap they’d have to climb to “git gud”, most would just quit and play something else. That’s not good for the long term health of the game. They need to ease people into it and offer them a rewarding experience at all levels of the game. That is the challenge of the game designer.
If I’m farming for Valor 2-3 is the most efficient. +10 loot is functionally the same as a +2 or 3 because I’m just gonna DE or trade the piece anyway, so in that regard I’d rather just stomp the easier content in 5 minutes instead of 15.
You didn’t even go into the loss of the ability to do older content. Previously, you could solo 2 xpac below (unless gimicky) with regular gear. If you had good gear, you could do the expansion below. With the fiasco that is scaling, you can’t easily clear Legion, or even some of the rares in BFA, without a group…and yet, my level 50s (with azerite gear, not a smidge of raid or mythic) can manage much of it. Scaling broke the ability for many casuals to farm older content for mounts, pets and transmog, and no change/fix is in place.
I agree with the OP, and tbh, after 15 years, I won’t buy another xpac. I’m here for the old stuff (at my own pace); I could do LFG or LFR if I wanted to (I don’t as I don’t find it to be an enjoyable way to experience content for the first time) and since the last two xpacs aren’t available for that, have shifted to Classic/TBC. The very idea that you have to be in top gear at the end of an xpac to do content that is +4 years old is ludicrous. Scaling was the worst thing they ever did.
We only have 750 Valor per week. If you upgrade a +2 loot, it would consume all your Valor and it would let you upgrade fewer items. On me, I upgraded 5 looted items from M+10 and above. I would only be able to upgrade only 1 or 2 if I upgrade the loot from M+2. Take into consideration your limited Valor. It’s not infinite.
I really don’t understand people’s obsession with WoW being challenging. It’s a video game. I wanna log in for a couple hours, have fun, and feel like I’m rewarded for my time investment. Life is challenging. Video games is a distraction from life. I don’t need challenge in my video games, I just need it to be fun and feel worthwhile.
If people want challenging content it’s there for them but please acknowledge not everyone wants to be hardcore or constantly pushing themselves. I personally don’t have the emotional energy for that and just want to have fun while chatting with my guild.
Then dont submerge yourself to difficult dungeons. You wont need powerful items if you wont do difficult content. Would you need ilevel 220 on killing World Quest mobs? Nope.
To some people, having fun means being challenged. We are taking difficult dungeons and we get powerful gear that we would use for more difficult dungeons.
you can do that. the reward to effort ratio is clearly defined. if you want to be showered with loot, d3 is a great alternative – and you can play solo! that’s one i play when i don’t have the energy for wow
Of course it is a rating system. Any system that allows players to rate people against other people is a rating system. I have never cared about my IO score because I run M+ with a guild group.
However, if blizzard ties valor to this rating system, then people will become more picky about who they invite to their groups because they will want to get the maximum amount of valor possible, and will probably not want to waste their keys on lower scored people.
