9.1 Brings almost nothing for the solo players

*Deep breath*

Let me try to define it again.

  • Professions could be good solo content if packed with unique cosmetics and stuff to work on that’s challenging (rare/difficult mats, etc…)! (look at FFXIV. Look at MoP’s Isle of Thunder patch)
  • There are a bunch of new pets, mounts and toys in shadowlands. That’s true. The problem are these systems are getting pretty bloated already. It would be great if we had something new to collect from, or something added onto these collections to refresh them a bit.
Toys are very restrictive, and there’s not a whole lot more to do with pets lately that feels fresh. Nothing about any of these things feels fresh to me.
  • World quests are absolutely terrible this expac IMO, and rather unrewarding for the time. They felt better when we had AP. They kinda have no real value without it. Same goes for the callings. Best reward you can hope from from those things is low ilvl gear. It’s not compelling to do for me. IDK if they can fix that this expac without adding something new, but it’s the first time since WQs dropped that I feel no reason to do them.
  • I want Archaeology back. I mostly want meaningful professions.
  • I want a reward structure attached to Torghast. (Doubloons from Islands were a good reward system, IMO)
  • I’d like Islands from BFA to be soloable, that was good content I’d still run.
  • I want Legion content to be soloable.
  • I want something to do that’s both prestigious, but doesn’t require a group. Mage Tower was this, I feel professions and Torghast could provide this.

We have a lot of content now, but it all feels empty somehow.

ohhh…maybe thats way I enjoyed Legion as much as I did.
Legion was a blast. well, so was everythin before it outside of WoD when I ran thru the content.
The funny part of this all is Ive run thru the barrens leveling characters over 100 times now. And right now Id rather do that for the 114th time than touch BFA content…and sadly enough, I find it more interesting than running WQs in SLs at this point, go figure.

Something changed.
It cant be me because I STILL Love leveling up new characters in old content and STILL love doing the MoP farm and Tiller grinds after doing it on a list of characters.
But BFA content makes me wretch…and SLs feels like its putting me to sleep.

Ion said the worst feeling ever in this game to date, was blowing through Torghast, failing on the last boss and leaving with nothing.

He admitted this was terrible and you can be sure they’ll rush to fix it…like maybe 9.2… lmao

Personally I love just running thru old content killing everything and looting to see what I get. Most times its the same green BoEs that Ive already gotten the mog for, but thats STILL better than the pocket lint crap from BFA and SLs.
Id rather have a gear drop I dont need and cant even sell than some grey garbage. Just more interesting for me. probably because it at least FEELS like I have a chance of getting a new mog, even if it doesnt happen any more frequently now that I have so much of the older ones.

Its surprising that Ion…or anyone…can be THIS bad at understanding what the bulk of RPG players might want to do…to find…to explore…and still after all this time pretend as if they are doing a good job of making new content.

You can use your mount in the maw, although for solo players who did twisting that is a setback not a reward hehe.

lol.
I just keep thinking about WoD and the whole flight fiasco.
What good game designer on this planet could have literally woke up one morning and thought “Gee, I know what players will love…if I remove flight from the game”.
I sit here sometimes, stuck in a mental loop banging my head against the desktop trying to understand how he ever thought that was even remotely a good idea

I was hoping it would give me a reason to play SL again. Right now I have alts doing Legion, and tbh, it’s a lot more fun.

They said 9.1 would bring in torghast changes to make it feel rewarding and even when you don’t get to finish it.

.1 barely brought anything significant at least in past few xpacs. I don’t see them adding more ‘solo’ content - I feel they’ll be trying to iterate on torghast and adding variety in there as xpac progresses.

And yes the maw, it’s just 'cause;
A. the story is there.
B. they can get you to not fly even though you’ll have flying then… they for whatever reason dislike you flying.

Kinda where I was in BFA too. I loved leveling characters, but I didn’t do a whole lot with them at max level. Yet it still feels like I had more to do with characters in BFA.

I love the leveling revamp, personally. I think Chromie time is great. But I have so many alts already from Legion, where alts were content and BFA where alts were kinda content, even though there weren’t different stories that time.

I kinda thought of starting over with a brand new account so that I had something to do in the game again, but I wound up just picking up different MMOs.

I don’t feel like their current content design outside of group content is working out. World Quests were great when AP was a thing and emissary gear caches existed. Without them, what’s the value? Rep?

If you are expecting anything honest from the MVP give up. the goal post will always be moveable to some.

As for the sheer lack of content yeah it’s bad small zones horrible quest line that my first time ever playing wow I took the threads of fate on my Mage just so I could by pass the mind numbing boring storyline for a 4th time.

Me too! I only did vanilla content before, so coming back to the game makes all the xpacs new for me. I am taking my characters to 50, then level locking them, and doing all the old raids as well.

I am still debating doing this with ESO. I have a beta account which is fresh and unplayed, and my main account with maxed crafters, etc. The idea of going back and starting from scratch really appeals to me.

I totally agree. It doesn’t take long to hit a wall, then it is mindlessly repetitive doing tedious, menial tasks, in zones that are just painful to be in. It becomes utterly un-fun to log in, and “playing” feels like a punishing job. No thanks.

Maybe they are hoping to cut this expansion short. When they already cut BFA short. With one of the minimal patches ever 8.3.

They keep giving less and less. Including cutting that expansion short for Shadowlands. Shadowlands we received five zones, less armor, less activities, etc.

That’s doing amazing things for them right? I’m wondering how many players are still subscribed or how many pre-ordered. (I know it wasn’t as much as BFA, which was broadcasted all over media outlets.) The disillusionment of money is still flowing so it is successful while more and more customers leave. Along with the amount of people that don’t bother to watch the Blizzcon. Which is ultimately a big advertisement for all their products. Which has never been more transparent without the community there supplying the fun.

A great way to describe it.

Why are the hardcore players still not getting what is wrong with this expansion from the viewpoint of a casual, busy, shy, or solo player?

I feel like I am locked out of all power growth and forced into an endless weekly loop of farming anima, just because the hardcore players screamed that they needed to feel validated about their gear, or that the game was forcing them to do daily power-related chores.

And are the game developers actually trying to purge the game of casuals and try to maintain a smaller but more hardcore player base?

Because let me tell you, the hardcore players are going to be hooked to this game until the plug is pulled on it.

But if WoW refuses to be a game where the average player cannot just log in at any time and advance their characters in power or in some other meaningful way, then it is failing as an MMO on the most basic level.

I agree. And no borrowed power bs, crappy renown systems.

Not sure why they would worry about solo play in an MMO.

Have you tried solitaire?

He’s not wrong. I had all my lives on my 7th layer TC run, but because my Frostbite Wand anima power (deals 50% damage - then refills back up the 50% lost after 5 seconds) made Soulmass on Floor 18 (which spawns blobs once lowered below 65%) unkillable because he’d go through this phase twice and it can’t be dealt with before the soft enrage stacks come too high, I failed.

One crappiest feeling I’ve had in over a decade of WoW. Haven’t touched Torghast since, almost two months.
