What I’m about to say is just my opinion, and I totally respect people who feel differently, but I tend to agree that this patch feels lackluster at the moment. I’ll admit that there’s a whole bunch of stuff we don’t know yet, but as someone who doesn’t raid and doesn’t do Mythic+ content (which I freely admit is [mostly] my own choice), this patch just doesn’t excite me right now.
The new raid/dungeon will likely be inaccessible to me for awhile. I absolutely cannot stand Torghast, and as I’ve already maxed out one legendary, until/unless I have any incentive to go back there, none of those changes have any appeal whatsoever. As for a better Maw experience, that place is right up there IMO for worst WoW experience ever, so I’m not exactly thrilled with spending any more time there then I have to.
Flying will be cool, and the new zone might be fun, but again, its in the Maw, a place that Blizzard IMO absolutely ruined for this first go 'round, so I’m not expecting much more in 9.1. I do like the looks of the new Necrolord transmog though, and I’m wrong about not having fun in WoW probably 90% of the time, so we will see.
TBH, during beta, the ONLY complaint about Chorghast was the entry item. It surly was not because of gear drops. I actually played mostly Chorghast i beta, and LOVED the idea i could get gear from doing higher levels and such. Then launch came, and found out they took the gear out, and i have only done enough Chorghast to get enough ash to upgrade to my second level of leggo.
Thats as far as i am personally willing to do in that place, since it is totally void of meaningful rewards!
I didn’t say you couldn’t play it solo…there’s definitely content in the game designed to be done solo, questing, mat-gathering, etc. But the game is, by design, a multi-player experience. That’s why you’re not the only one in the world, as you are in, say, Skyrim or other console-type games.
All I’m saying is, instead of being here whining about what the game never has been and trying to convince everyone they’re wrong and you’re right…go find something you actually enjoy? Or, at least, is more productive for your life?
This is my major complaint. I’ve been playing since vanilla, but haven’t had the time or inclination to raid since a few xpacs ago. But they’re burying story and lore stuff in the raids – Jeremy was so excited about what we’ll find out at the end of the Domination raid!!! – and that means a ton of us aren’t going to get to see it, no matter how much time we put into world content and covenant campaigns and whatnot.
I did find things I enjoy. Guess what, they’re also in “multiplayer” games.
I’m not paying another dime to this company until they do improve the solo content in a similar way. But I’m not going to stop giving my feedback about what the game HAS been and how it could improve, not until I actually can’t do it anymore.
Also, don’t try to shame me for not being productive with my life, lol. We’re both playing video games. My life is plenty productive. You want to talk about being productive, you’re over here responding to my discussion, lol.
I’m talking to the devs, btw, not you, at least not beyond my replies directly to you. I’m not trying to convince you of anything, you’re nobody to me. Go enjoy your game. I’m going to be here for at least a few more weeks saying my piece.
Do you only ever play with other people, and log off if the right group of friends isn’t there when you want to do content? Do you go out of your way to avoid all non-group content, or do you group to trivialize and zerg it?
Is it that you’re unable to function unless you’re surrounded by other people? Just curious, because actually hardly anybody functions the way you seem to want to force on the player you are responding to.
Raiders are leaving when the hamster wheel is not enough.
EQ was the forced grouping MMORPG. SWG was the solo sit in a cantina and dance solo so others can heal mind wounds.
WoW was developed by EQ raiders who saw that forced grouping sucked and if they made a game the same way that was easier and would let you solo to cap, they could make a ton of money.
SO they did. Old school EQ players laughed about Hello Kitty WoW and it’s casual play style.
Now WoW players want to pretend they are EQ players when EQ was actually challenging
They may be adding a new zone, but I’m not going to jump for joy, it could be full of great new outdoor content, or it could be another Maw in its current state.
Classic and TBC have a very intentional progression path for solo players. Because in those games Raiding and PvP isn’t the end all be all of the experience. In Classic there is meaningful solo progression all the way to 60. And the game doesn’t force you into raiding or PvP either. You could happily progress at your own pace by setting goals and play the game your way to have FUN. Some players just like to pick herbs, or work on other profs, others like to play the AH, some just RP and these all contribute to their own player progression in a real MMORPG.
Ion decided based on participation metrics that Raiding and PvP are “the best parts” of the game so they have become the only parts of the game. With very limited on-rails progression paths, which eliminated the healthy diversity of player types which made the world feel alive and like a real MMO. This narrow minded approach to game design removed everything else that made WoW Great in favor of a binary choice - Raid or PvP.
WoW is at its best when it is serviceable to a large number of player types, and does not neglect the very important solo players.
Everyone has been affected by this pandemic. It’s pretty disgusting to see people act so entitled when there very well may be Blizzard employees who lost family members.
The whole country is running on steam. Get some perspective.
What does this have to do with anything? I wasn’t talking about the energy of the speakers or the show itself, I was talking about the content. They have 200+ people working on this game, man. They charge a monthly subscription price for a product.
Like, I get it, it’s been a lousy year. That’s not an excuse for such a lousy follow-up to a lousy release of an expansion that was already delayed with the pandemic as an excuse. I admired the delay.
That’s my perspective. My issue is with where they put their efforts and their design choices, not with how people aren’t smiling more or something.
Ion has always been a raider. My feeling is that he agrees with other players who have ignored other parts of the game and feel that they may as well not exist. That their existence “encourages” solo and casual players, who should be discouraged from continuing to subscribe if they aren’t ready the moment they hit max level to step into mythic raiding.
God forbid a new players should take some time to find their interests in the game and learn how to play their class. It’s raid or gtfo.
Some sort of rewarding progression system that isn’t tied directly to ilvl, 1/1/3 groups, and/or a damn “go go go” timer.
Torghast stuff is just more wings to run without any additional reward structure that they’ve even so much as hinted at.
When they release story, it’s in bitesize morsels that detract from immersion. I don’t like how they’ve been doing weekly episodes. It sucks.
And yeah, this brings in the “usual” amount of stuff that made leveling alts or farming old raids the only “content” to do as a casual player. That crap’s getting old, we’ve been doing it for years waiting for some hint that they’re going to give us something else to do.
