So…what you’re saying is new and returning players should either give up on the idea of playing allied races, or shut up and grind, grind, grind, grind, grind their way through pointlessly tedious old content for a ‘privilege’ that should have been simplified years ago.
No game should become a second job, just to fulfil a greedy corporation’s ‘time played’ metric.

Something that I will not utilize because I will never set foot in BFA again.

OP isn’t a new player - he is someone who just didn’t do anything that expansion for reasons.
And a new player who is just playing for cosmetics, you bet they should have to put in some effort.

yeah well you knew about all the allied races - you could have expanded then or worked on things then if you were so interested. I played both sides - no reason you couldn’t have.

The reason is it was objectively garbage back then too, and I didn’t want the race at that time.
What’s also garbage is players blindly defending objectively bad game design.

Once you unlock it you can grind and slog through all the questing again to hit max level. Then grind through DF to hit end game. Then grind through dungeons and raids to get your gear. Then you can grind again once the next season starts.
The End.

towards the end of shadowlands, I realized I had actually done most of the suramar quest line and somehow had gotten exalted with the nightborne while playing back in legion. I knocked out the last few quests before draganflight to unlokc the nightborn. I am completely uninterested in taking the time top unlock other races.
at this point, we are 3 expansions since those unlocking requirements were put in place. I understand that in that time, the requirements for unlocking made sense. if you want to be early in WoW, you have to to the grinds early. that is the payoff for being willing to push content early.
but now? they should just be part of the game, or unlockable with a short quest line.

The nighborne grind was the worst. Ironic thing is after I finally unlocked them, I realized how anorexic they are and don’t want to play as one. Literally the biggest waste of time

God, I remember I’d spend every waking moment unlocking the Nightborne. I wake up, and work on stuff. It got so bad, my eyes were getting bloodshot.

That big greedy company locking something completely optional behind… checks notes… playing the content from the xpac it was released in. Got it.

The difference is that dungeons and raids are fun, interesting, challenging, engaging, etc.
Doing mindless questing in an outdated expansion is the most boring and brainless content in the game
They shouldn’t be locked at all. Every other race was unlocked with the relevant expansion. Legion, but mostly BFA are the only exceptions. Obviously it’s not something that they want to continue doing because the most recent expansion included the race with the expansion, like it should be.

Unlocked them yesterday , took roughly 3 days of 6-8 hours a session, wouldn’t do it again that’s for sure.
would be nice just to have option to skip that and do introduction to faction quests instead
You should not have to earn any optional items/permanent account unlocks in the game. Just unlock everything on log in.

Slippery slope. No one is asking for this.

Whats not slippery about saying you should just have all allied races unlocked? The best strategy becomes just waiting til the xpac ends.
Its casual questing. Just do it if you want the reward.

Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it is ‘garbage’ game design. A lot of people get enjoyment out of working for something, people like you don’t. The first group deserves to have content they enjoy as well and since that works in blizzard’s favor I think you types who wants everything easy mode should be ignored.

I unlocked the Zandalari solely to play Paladin and I can honestly say it wasn’t worth it. Paladin is not a fun play style for me.
Visually they’re pretty cool but no where near as cool as Undead. If I could have that time back I would. It wasn’t worth it, and it wasn’t fun at all.
Also if I could re-lock the Vulpera I would. Had zero intentions of unlocking them at all because I thought it was actually for the Zandalari stuff (Like starting the route).
Because they have back tracked on things like WoD and Legion timewalking, and have completely scrapped the idea of allied races in modern expansions.
There is zero reason to hold out on these ideas that they obviously have no intention continuing.
The story is still there for people who want to grind 6 year old content.
The content isn’t going to go anywhere.
lmao
Nothing is challenging about old expansion questing. It’s just tedium and boredom for literally a dozen or more hours.
