I can confirm that there is a memory leak issue for me as well, It’s making it impossible to do any serious content, and it’s even frustrating me on my roleplaying and Leveling T.T
Having the exact same issue as others are describing above. Crash varies in severity. Sometimes the game comes back, others I have to completely manually restart my whole computer.
Can confirm as well, all addons disabled, no problems before 8.3, huge memory leak.
Saved my day. thank you
I am having the same issue, tried the following with no success.
- Updated Windows
- Completely removed all addons
- Uninstalled all Nvidia Drivers and re-installed
- Re-Installed WoW
- Edited most recommended settings in graphics options based on past posts
I have a GTX 1080ti and Intel i5 6600K
Still the game will freeze for 5 - 30 seconds and GPU usage spikes to 100%. On some occasions it completely crashed game. Worst in new zones as well as when more people are around.
Hey all,
Thanks for the continued reports! So far, common solutions seem to be:
- Change the Graphics API to DirectX 11 Legacy
- Lowering graphics quality
I do recommend trying these to anyone who is affected by this issue. If this does NOT work please let us know.
Thanks again for following up with us!
This doesnt work, pretty sure like 50 people above you also mentioned that this doesnt work. Lowering graphics to 1 and resolution to 50% just slows the ram leak, so that it maxes out slower. not an actual solution to play a game that looks like old school pacman, and still freezes
Tried this and it does not work, gtx 1050 ti user here. As a note it’s even worse on linux almost locks my computer.
Ditto here, never occured before this patch, now when I’m doing WQ after say 30 minutes if there is a WQ npc window and animation(introducing or ending the WQ) sometimes my screen freezes for like 5 seconds, very annoying.
I have the same problem. Disabled ALL Addons, and virus check my system, no change. It occurs anywhere in game play. On occasion my system crashes and reboots.
Macbook Pro 13" Early 2015
Mac OS 10.15.2
I have fixed the issue for now, by using LEGACY DX11.

Can confirm. Your listed common solution do not fix this issue. Only delay it. A lot of people are waiting to play the new patch when it’s actually playable for people with systems high above the bare minimum. I’m sorry but i’m rather annoyed. Please get back to us with updates on how you’re looking into this. I’m thinking something was reset on patchday wasn’t meant to be reset. Because our systems, graphics cards, or anything on our end does not seem to be the keyfactor on why this is happening. Again sorry for if i sound like i have Attitude but this has been really troubling.
Is there any plan to fix this? I have three days left on my sub and I don’t make purchases for things I can’t use.
Can confirm the suggested solutions do not fix the problem.
I am having the same issues. Game crashes, no warnings, no errors, I have tried all fixes recommended to no avail, and this has started today Jan 17. 2020 after the client updated. A uninstall and removal of all registry keys has also been done with a clean install. The issue is 100% not on my side, as I run other games more demanding that WoW with no issues at all
Blizzard should thank their community for doing their technical support for them… for free, no less.
“Set to DX11 legacy here and all Nvidia display driver crashing stopped” this corrected my issue. whomever discovered solution should get a recruit a friend reward or some sort reward for saving a customer. i was set to drop this subscription…
I thought mine was fixed but its not. Still happens, after a full ui reset and repairing the game as a GM told me after I opened a ticket.
May I ask people to specify if they’re having a memory issue or a GPU issue? It appears we may have two different (but similar) issues being reported in this thread.
