8.2 Mount Equipment and Water Strider

force verb make (someone) do something against their will.

You really need to learn what being forced to do something means. As I said, everything you do in this game, is by your choice. Nobody here, is forcing you to do anything.

Once again, you’re arguing semantics like I said. Obviously nobodies literally forcing you to but It’s insanely disadvantageous NOT to.

No wonder you’re unable to grasp other basic concepts…

You are right, Blizzard is very good at slowing players down.

I think they document the time required to do everything. Anything that shorten the time frame will receive developer attention and possibly a change/patch/removal. Or you may say that any idea that prolong the time frame are considered “good idea”. Flying, water striding, whistle, flight path, etc.

Maybe someday, we need revered or quest chain to use/unlock flight path. lol

round and round we go.

If we have both “A faster mount” and “A water walking mount” people will generally use the FASTER mount instead, and the regular speed water walking mount ONLY to cross water.

Exempting the water strider from mount equipment won’t result in everyone always using the strider.

But ‘choice’ is something that Blizzard clearly doesn’t want us to have… oh well.

But all mounts go the same speed, this whole example is completely irrelevant…

Uh, to cross water it will? NOT having the water strider is putting you at a disadvantage, you’ll be forced to carry around and swap out mount equipment to water walking…wasting time.

Even if Blizzard were to implement mount equipment in that manner, I would still want my strider exempt as I want to preserver my mount’s water-walking passive for future xpacs.

But, the reality is, no one is forcing you. You may be inconvenienced, but they are not forcing you.

I have a friend who does not have Legion or WOD flying because he didn’t want to put the effort in to earn it. So when in those zones, he rides ground mounts. I have a feeling the same thing will apply in BFA.

It may be inconvenient to have to walk around a lake, or swim (or ride a under water mount), but, that has been your choice since MOP.

They do, one of their metrics is time played. It is one of the reasons they removed all the extra portals. If players have to fly to these areas, they have to spend more time in the game.

His example is about the speed mount equipment vs the water walking mount equipment. If people are given a chose over going faster or walking on water, most will choose going faster.

But there literally wouldn’t be a difference in giving it water walking vs. it having water walking mount equipment…

You’re arguing semantics. Being at a huge disadvantage by NOT using a mount with water walking is just silly.

Yeah and…? What’s the point aside from that? People want to still have a mount that can walk on water AND move speed as well…which a better suggestion is just make each mount have its own mount equips.

Blizzard says one thing, but the impact of this change is to discourage water walking by imposing costs in bagspace / restocking / time-to-fetch-equipment… or cost in sacrificing other new perks like speed.

Mounts are 100% about speed. There’s no consumable alternative for that bonus… unlike no-daze/water-walking/slow-fall.

So while you may believe them when they say it’s about one thing… clearly their motivations lie elsewhere.

And your suggestion of an equipment slot per mount? Is very much contrary to it, and has no chance of getting implemented.

NOT IF YOU USE THE SPEED MOUNT EQUIPMENT.

it won’t affect exempt mounts.

Which is why people should be suggesting it vs. something completely short sighted like “WELL if it’s gong to be bad anyway let’s at least have water walking and other mount equips”

Consumer is always right and with sub numbers the way they are now, if they don’t listen It’s just another reason why the game’s gonna die.

… if you don’t have a water strider. Do what you do now. Roll a DK / shaman, use a water walking potion. Use the underlight angler. Use the angler’s raft… use a swimming mount.

Not my job to guarantee equal convenience for those who never bothered to unlock the feature in the past. Blizzard made it so that NOBODY is going to be slotting water walking equipment temporarily on demand by making it a UNIQUE item anyway.

So let me get this straight, while playing and leveling or doing whatever on a character you want me to stop what I’m doing and completely re-roll my character so I can cross a body of water…? Do you not understand how insane you sound right now?

So you want me to stop and dismount, drink a potion and clutter up limited bag space, re-mount to cross water? You realize how much easier having a mount with water walking would make that…?

Yeah, let me just grind out a fishing legendary from Legion and keep it in my bags, dismount, turn into a fish, swim across, re-equip my gear and re-mount. Sounds like a real time saver.

Swimming mounts are all slower than running over the top of the water, tho…

It’s not just unlocking it, It’s having it be the ONLY mount that has it. It’s ugly and better suggestions need to be made than “Wah, I unlocked this ugly mount it should keep its super powers!”

So make a better suggestion? Make the suggestion of every mount having its own unique equipment? That’s a HELL of a lot better than “Wah I want my water strider to keep its passive” when blizzard literally stated the reason for mount equipment was so people didn’t have to use the water strider.

If they leave the water striders alone… and exempt them, then this ‘mount equipment’ feature as hacky as it is… is slight but pure ‘positive’ instead of something that comes ‘at an unpleasant cost’.

The latter part? On that I can agree with you. Every bad decision erodes loyalty a little bit. Those right on the edge tend to go over it, resulting in a loss of subs.

Blizzard obviously doesn’t care… the goal, I’m pretty sure, is to make levelling unpleasant by coercing people to give up water walking… and thus encourage more players to buy boosts to skip all that mindless face-roll grindy levelling up stuff.

Or if they make it unique per mount, It’s insanely positive and everyone wins…but go on…?

As much as I hate monger on Blizzard (which since 8.2 essentially every one of my posts is a negative jab at Blizzard…) that’s not the goal and to think so is just silly. They’ve nerfed leveling XP requirements so much back and forth that, that’s just blatantly not true.

I’m not going to even inline your post:

Shaman/DK … whatever. Either you run one or you don’t.

Elixir of Water Walking: Can be consumed without forcing you to dismount.

Underlight Angler: Can be equippped without dismounting. Heck I even have a hotkey bound to a toggle macro that puts it on and then returns me to my default armor set so that I can use its benefits, mounted or not.

Swimming mounts are slower. Boo hoo. If that’s all you bothered to get, then suck it up.

I’m all for blizzard adding MORE water walking mounts… but again, like your mount-equipment-per-mount idea… clearly that’s not the direction they want to go. We can ask until we’re blue in the face… won’t change things.

And yeah… again. I think blizzard was blowing smoke up our nethers with that particular excuse making bit. I’m not buying it. And if they’re sincere about it? Then they should have added a second mount equipment slot so that we could have water walking AND something else.

Since this became an issue I’ve suggested so many different alternate more friendly ways to improve this that I’ve lost track of them all.

The EASIEST to implement would be just exempt the flappy water striders. But again, clearly that’s in opposition to their undisclosed goals for this change… because they’ve addressed almost everything else that’s been pointed out.

I think you missed my point about future xpacs. You are assuming that mount equipment (water walking in particular) will not be locked behind some achievement, won’t be limited to previous xpac areas, or won’t be removed entirely.

However, if you go back and look at many of the items Blizzard implemented in previous xpacs are now either restricted to that xpac or removed entirely.

I am basing my argument on the the history of what this development team has done.

They make a lot of money on boosts and I know plenty of people who, if given the choice would boost toons to max level vs leveling them. Activision is deep in the micro-transaction business. It’s why blizzard created the tokens, the boost, the stuff in the store, and the blizzard balance.

Activision has learned micro-transactions is big business.
" Sensor Tower reports that the Candy Crush series of mobile games collectively made more than $1.5 billion in revenue from micro-transactions in 2018"

I am very sure that they are putting micro-transactions as part of the metrics blizzard is measured on.

And you’re literally assuming it will be without any evidence it would be.

Fear mongering at best.

Weird…you mean like goblin gliders? They literally nerfed a toy to make goblin gliders to stay relevant

You can say that about literally any game, though…there’s always going to be people who just throw money if they can. There’s even a term “whales”

Ya think? Pretty obvious now they’re adding toys and such to the store.

Yup, nobody’s questioning this. It’s obvious with all the firings etc. after record breaking profits. Activision is sinking their claws in deep.

Without a doubt, It’s why toys are now microtransactions. Blizzard isn’t the Blizzard it used to be, more than ever, now.

I think Blizzards behavior in the past can predict the future. Besides, it is better to be safe than sorry. We can all sit on our hands believing that they would not dare restrict or remove mount equipment, or we can be proactive about it. By the way, seen any PVP vendors around?

And then they restricted the gliders so that they could no longer be used in instances. All because the rogues were being creative.

Care to give any examples?

As much as I lack faith in the community, I’d just consider it tin foil hat / fear mongering.

Yeah the only option is to fear monger or actually wait since mount equipment isn’t even live yet.

You know paladins used to be able to one shot raid bosses? I bet you were just so upset when they changed it so they couldn’t, huh?

Here is a big one, removal of Achievements. People work hard at their achievements and hate the fact that some were removed, reducing their achievement points.

Two other examples are below – Both were removed
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge
Elixir of the Rapid Mind

How about the removal of PVP vendors, something that no one ever complained about.

There are many more examples but I’m too tired tonight to look them all up.

lol, it is not fear mongering to take a stand on an issue, and as I said, we can all sit on our hands and wait for them to remove something they have wanted to remove for a very long time, or we can let Blizzard know that we do not want it removed.

Apples to oranges argument. Blizzard could have easily put up a wall to prevent rogues from using the short-cut. Personally, I really didn’t care if they used it or not. They play their game and I play mine and if they want to be creative then I’m cool with that.
