If I was still a Trust Level 3, I’d post a link to the “Why Not Both?” meme. You’re applying an all-or-nothing framework here, with a dash of Whataboutism, and a pinch of cynicism.
It would have an affect on the Mount EQ System, is the point that is sailing over your head. Why introduce an item that no one would use?
If you want to use the Mount Equipment system, then use it. If I don’t want to use the Mount Equipment system for my Water Strider, then I should have every right not to use it.
Or what, is having options for different types of WoW Players not allowed in your mind?
Well, either pruning happens, or it doesn’t. You’ve stated that it does, and we should adapt. But then you state that pruning the abilities from DK’s and Shamans won’t happen.
Can you really be so sure? Given their history, I’d say it’s more likely those abilities will be pruned.
Applying a one-size-fits-all without guiding logic is a recipe for frustration and failure, IMO. It’d be like worrying about them pruning 2H Axes & Swords from paladins. We’re holy warriors, edged weapons are too edgy and mean, thus we should always be mightily smiting with maces.
Blizzard created two water walking mounts. Now they regret that decision, so they’re stripping the special ability away. No more water walking.
Except – we have two classes, DK’s and Shamans, who have baked-in water walking skills. That kind of smells OP, sorry. And it negates the need for them to use that flavor of mount equipment. Yep, definitely OP.
On top of all that, DK’s also have faster riding baked in, and if they’re in Blood spec, anti-daze to boot. OMG, Defcon 5! That’s really super OP!
The anti-water-walking people got that thread locked again. It has been locked for 2 days. -_-
It probably should be renamed, “the mount that was formerly know as water-strider” Could use a symbol for it. I recommend
I am sure that is their plan. It also wouldn’t surprise me if they eventually made mount equipment into micro-transactions.
It is amazing that people do this just because they disagree with the pro-strider side. I have only flagged posts that were clearly out of line (people threatening people). I can only guess that some people are just very thin skinned.
This is true if your toon is level 100 or higher. Toons that are below level 100 will not get a free one and they cannot purchase one. They can use them though.
Another thing people need to be aware of is that the Angler water-walking mount equipment is Unique — You may only carry 1 of them in your bags.
This means if your plan is to switch between mount equipment when you’re out in the world questing, think again.
That is an apple to orange argument. Legendaries have always been retired at the end of an xpac, just as gear is. Mounts on the other hand are not. You dislike the strider and that is ok, you do not have to ride it.
However, there are people who do like the strider and we would appreciate it if Blizzard would make it exempt as they did the Sky Golem. After all, this mount was harder to obtain and for those who did get it back in MOP it took a lot of time.
A lot of people would use it as there are a ton of people who do not have the strider. They have been complaining about how “unfair” it is that others have that mount.
Blizzard’s answer is to pacify these people by introducing water-walking mount equipment.
Also, by making it a consumable, they will now be able to easily remove the ability. They tried to remove the water-walking back in Legion alpha but the pushback from the players was intense.
Now they have found a way to do it and the only people who will notice will be the pro-strider people.
Why you ask? It is simple, the mount equipment requires a lot of expensive mats to make.
This means the only people buying them are people who have a lot of gold. So people will not be swapping the equipment out like everyone thinks. Of course, you could always stock up on mount equipment by buying tokens… (part of the plan? after all they are measured against candy crush these days)
Because Blizzard is taking longer to release Flying.
Because Blizzard is creating more volume and size of water obstacles.
Because Blizzard’s terrain design and WQ layout frequently make following the shoreline or detouring across bays, lakes, and rivers the quickest path to content areas circumventing switchback trails up, over, and around mountains and dead end valleys.
It’s weird how you always jump to the conclusion that every complaint is based on some sort of conspiracy theory, but not a minor conspiracy theory but some really oddball schizophrenic type conspiracy theory.
You can’t ignore that Blizzard has been designing terrain with very few pathways since WoD that feature lots of circuitous routes around mountains, chasms, and large bodies of water.
You should be aware that it’s taking longer and longer to unlock easier travel methods.
You should be aware that players inevitably use the quickest and best travel methods to reach and complete their daily chores, such as targeting 1 mob WQ’s near flight paths and using the whistle immediately upon completion.
You may or may not be aware that the water walking mount equipment is less effective than the Live version of water walking via the Strider which also has the perk of being able to stack other effects.
You may not be aware that the Angler’s rep vendor equipment still requires reputation to purchase that equipment and the price is subject to change from PTR to Live.
You may not be aware that crafted mount equipment uses the current consumables (barding, hoofplates, stirrups) as reagents as well as new materials which will limit the availability of the former and greatly increase the price of the latter.
You should probably take note of how often new expansion systems are either outright removed in the next expansion or return in objectively worse form.
And lastly, it’s considerably humorous that Blizzard has used “immersion” as the reason for removing and changing things in the past 2 expansions but are adding an extremely immersion breaking system in the middle of BFA.
Damn, then that also means, I need to level the toon that I have exalted with the Anglers in order to get it as well, since the toon that got me the Water Strider is still at level 90, and in order to get it, and even purchase it, have to be level 100.
Though 10 levels may seem not like much, but that is stupid as well D:
Well, actually, it put it as it is really harsh. Because when the Water Striders was first intoduced into the game, they were available to get when you were exalted with The Anglers, and well, that was an MoP faction. MoP era was level 90, so why they made it to be required to be level 100 + exalted with the Anglers to actually get it, who knows, and level 100 in order to purchase it for alts is a bit stupid too.
I honestly don’t have any real problem with the idea of mount gear, in fact I’m interested in seeing what other utilities it’ll bring to the table. Maybe some padded insoles that reduce falling damage or a propeller that increases you speed underwater, or an automated mining attachment that lets you access nodes without dismounting. There’s really a lot of cool stuff that could come from this!
I don’t either. I actually think it’s a great concept.
I do not, however, agree with them stripping away the water striders’ special abilities. They should just make those mounts exempt from using mount equipment, the way they are doing with the Sky Golem. This would be a win/win for everyone.
