79 Battleground Bracket lots of fun and no eternal gear grind

This is a pro 79 twink thread with some info on the bracket for those who might be curious.

If you, (like me an others) are not interested in the never ending gear treadmill , but mostly just play for the pvp mechanics, there is an NPC for each faction that will turn off your XP gain for a few gold pieces , and “yes” you still will be put in the same BG queues as people who gain experience.

Right now the bracket is very active for obvious reasons. On Alliance, queues during primetime are usually between 1 - 5 minutes. During off hours like 5am, or super late at night, i notice queues can be anywhere from 5 - 17mins (longest ive seen). I have no idea how long Horde queues are, but i assume they are a touch longer . I think ive played around 50 games and i would say only about 5 of those matches were same faction games.

At present there are not a ton of fully twinked 79’s running around, i maybe see about 3 or 4 per game if that. Obviously most of them are Horde side, but i have seen a few on Alliance now and then.

Gearing i think is fairly unique compared to previous expansions in that its MUCH MUCH easier to gear and be competitive because of the the level 78 blue PVP sets, and because the Brutal vendor gear is still totally usable even at 79. You dont need to dungeon grind for eleventy billion hours trying to get that 1 rare blue item that will boost your power levels to the moon. But there are still dungeon pieces you can chase if you want a full glass cannon build.

Class balance so far “seems” to be ok, and each class and spec offers so much more than in previous xpacs(imo). Death knights are obviously bonkers and a good one needs to be immediatly focused down or it will shrek your teamates . Rogues can still do their obnoxious rogue stuff, but dont feel quite as busted anymore because of resilience stacking. Warriors can actually survive and pull off some tricks that make them more interesting to play etc etc…

Anyways, if you are thinking of doing it, or even stopping in the bracket for a few months to farm honor before level 80, now is the time to do it. I noticed in TBC that after about a year , the 69 bracket was basically dead.

Good luck!

my 2 70s are destined for this

Im definitely going to BG grind my way from 79-80.

I’m still a few months away from hitting 79, but that’s the point of this alt.

It never died but things were definately slower the end half of tbc. Some of us 69 twinks are now 79 twinks. Activity is very high but the number of bots is irritating. Xp + honor should keep 79 busier than the honor grind bracket that was tbc 69s.

70-79 bracket is where i’ll be doing the bulk of my pvp. I have 3 rogues that are 70,71 and 78 in full brutal. Best fun.

I will say Alliance is in desperate need of 79’s . If i recall correctly it was like that in 69’s for a few months, then all the horde Pvp’ers made Alliance alts to twink and it balanced itself out pretty good a few months later.

Im lvl 79, a boomkin, and have died to a level 73 prot pally. Used up all my cooldowns too. Suffice it to say, I /afked after that one lol.

70-79 bracket is garbage lol… its 50% bots and you go 30-0 with no problem.

It gets really boring after a bit.

If you get to 80 and get geared you can just go do BGs and wreck people in quest/heroic gear. It’s no big secret that the geared people don’t even do BGs on the regular lol

Help me understand the appeal of twinking? Aren’t you just pvpving against mostly underheated (in comparison) people? What’s the fun in uneven matches?

I dont know, depends how you look at it. I use to always twink max level instead. Would raid and pvp until i had every slot maxed out gemmed and enchanted, and then just relentlessly slaughter battleground casual players without the time to grind end game, or fresh players at max level. I actually find the ratio of fighting geared players VS lazy players without gear isnt too different from max level.

And as far as uneven matches go, i find no difference in the ratio of “close nail biting games” in the lower brackets compared to max level.

This anecdotal of course, just my opinion.
