It was “only” 495% more damage taken!
And that is why I pretty much stopped caring about pvp this expansion. I wanted to farm out the vicious mount but corruption has made pvp stupid at this point
This video was hilarious but is not really broken per se… It is stupid but he was able to survive due to the CDs… It is what it is.
So it is true about the sporebat after all.
It is merely broken and hilarious filler content until Shadowlands which it will probably be nerfed seriously into the ground.
I just watched this video, and I’m super happy for this guy.
Was laughing every single time those stars went out and just annihilated someone. Wish I was on the other side of that screen
Looked like a ridiculous amount of fun.
Really the only answer at this point.
For the most part, it just looks like silly exploitation of how hilariously broken WoW’s various systems (corruption in particular) can be. However, it’ll never be an “widely used” strategy for one simple reason:
It’s too easy to counter
From what I’ve gathered, this is an extreme case of a “glass cannon build”; deals lots of damage, but extremely fragile. As such, it largely depends on the element of surprise; in this case, your opponents simply not expecting a tank to put that kind of crazy damage out while also being extremely fragile. A major boon to the strategy is the pally’s bubble, which allows them to bypass the drawbacks of such a build for some time.
So yeah… how do you counter such a build?
Simply survive the initial onslaught.
This can be done with a few basic methods:
- Using stealth to hide, which works for rogues & druids.
- Ranged classes simply have to sit back until the onslaught is over, then go in for an easy kill.
- Strong defensive cooldowns used at the right time, including (if not especially) another Pally’s bubble. One key point to look out for is the other pally using their bubble, which indicates they’ll be on the offensive.
While it probably involves at least one player “sacrificing” themselves to force the pally to use their bubble, it’s mostly a matter of waiting out the bubble cooldown while remaining out of reach… then finishing off the pally relying on this strategy.
Of course, the challenge is identifying character’s using this strategy in advance.
A few indicators are readily identified without much thought:
- Prot pally in the arena to begin with, especially at higher ratings; I don’t follow PvP much, but tanks generally aren’t known for their PvP prowess. It should be noted that ANY pally spec can work for this strategy, but prot has at least some additional durability which would be invaluable.
- The maximum corruption effect… which is a bright red-orange ooze all over, if I’m not mistaken? Yeah, that’s a clear sign of anyone favouring a corruption-heavy build.
- Pally using their bubble at max health. Again, I don’t keep track of PvP much… but a pally using their bubble at max health means they’re anticipating heavy or otherwise non-survivable damage in the immediate future. This could be the case for a corruption-heavy build which is extremely squishy.
If all three apply… well, you could have a dead give-away.
Do what you gotta do to get that mount and title
Not to mention… you do have to farm up like 90k echoes for it.
I don’t think anyone is saying this guy is lucky or blaming him for doing it, I think people are just acknowledging how blatantly broken corruption is because being able to one shot people isn’t good (let alone skillful) gameplay. Hell, we used to make fun of PoM Pyro mages, but by comparison being a PoM pyro mage is like being a Nasa compared to this kind of gameplay.
May not take “Skill”, but did take almost 120k echoes I believe he said, this is how Blizzard wants us to play the game.
I love Rextroy! That’s so busted lol.
The “skill” is having the idea to begin with. Previously I would have never said to myself, “Self, you know what sounds like a good idea? 700 corruption, that sounds fantastic.”
I’d be afraid if stubbing my toe and having N’Zoth decide to delete my account.
This is why Ion the lawyer needs to be fired asap. Hes incompetent to say the least
It will be interesting to see how everyone does when S’lands launches and all those corruption effects disappear. I’ve been having fun on my Pally watching those corruptions proc, but knowing that like 60% of my damage is going to vanish once the expac starts.
I guess it all depends on how the new rent-affects works in a few months.
You don’t have to use that trick for Youtube videos btw. You can link youtube all day regardless of trust level.
It will never happen as long as the lvl 5 honor Ion remains director.
Sounds like fun.
Too bad the fun police have been alerted to this now.
WoW PvP is a perfectly balanced game with absolutely no exploits.
