61 renown next week, but…

Cheerio lad, it’s danger time.

I just hit tier 5. You need 16k cataloged reseach to get to tier 6 from 5. Currently, I’m spending an hour to two hours each day for the last month and a half doing the Korthia stuff. I complete all the daily quests, kill all the bosses, loot all chests I come across, loot all mushrooms I come across, and just the last few weeks I get the 4 chests in the rift sometime the vault in the maw too.
I get about 800 to 1k cataloged reseach each day. So, I’m looking at over two weeks to upgrade any of my items to rank 5.
This is not right. It shouldn’t be taking this long to upgrade the items. That’s not even mentioning how much cataloged research we’ll need to get the items to rank 6. Also, is there a cap on cataloged reseach.

Amateur. You should be spending 12 hours a day collecting these relics.

<<< p.s. that is supposed to be humor. >>>

I haven’t even hit rank 5 yet. I don’t know how much time I spend in Korthia but it isn’t 1.5 hours per day.

I spend about 2-3 hours a week in Korthia. Probably hit level six in about 2 months. I think I might still need a shield then. Usually I still need a shield 4-5 months into a patch. On the plus side I will have been awarded a plethora of rings and necklaces from the vault, which is nice because sometimes you run out of gold and need one to sell for repairs. Other times they upgrade your existing ring or necklace by -5 because they don’t have socket or don’t have leech. So keep those rings and necklaces coming - because removing primary stats added so much nothing to the game.

logically level 5 should do it.

they just were afraid to inconvenience raiders by letting other players painfully eke closer to their entitled rewards.

pretty sure it was changed after the fact…

Yeah the fact both the 5th and 6th upgrade levels require a 6 in research seems like an error to me.

I do agree that having both at level 6 is weird but 6 isn’t that hard to get to. If you just kill rares and pickup treasures while doing the dailies you should almost be there. You can grind to get higher but really once you get to the last few rares and treasures you don’t get much research. I’ve been doing it and almost feel like the last few are a waste of time. There is a weak aura that helps track everything that makes it easier too.

not really the point…

Wow whatever will the poor casuals do without no life mythic raider tryhards there to round up and blow up packs of trivial mobs in a few globals when it takes the casuals just a few more globals to kill the mob. It’s gonna be a real big shame when all the tryhards abandon the place and nobody else can get a quest done just like the 4 other shadowland zones are currently…

Oh wait…

You can also buy socket tokens from Bonesmith with soul cinders, as that will become a dead currency once you get all of your BIS legendaries to rank 6. That does require exalted with Deaths Advance though.

Also for some reason you cannot add that socket token to gear with a dom socket already in it (even though you could on the PTR). So that automatically removes helms for everyone if they use a dom socketed helm. For plate, it also removes wrists from the token as well.

It’s time consuming. I think that’s the issue.

I been rank 6 for week now and it isn’t hard, just an hour a day with right add ons and hitting Koritha at resets helps too, makes it very simple to grind this rep with relics and such.

It’s tedious and the researched knowledge is a terrible slow moving treadmill that really isn’t worth the effort.

Why can’t we have a benthic type system where we can actually target what we want? Instead I’ve been opening armaments for 3 weeks in hopes of a trinket with no luck and now I don’t do it at all anymore.

I have done nothing but the campaign, 1 assault a week and the dailies and have only averaged just below 500 codex rep a day. I kill every rare I have time for, grab every chest/nest/mushroom I run by and this rep grind bites major hindquarters. It wouldn’t be until the last week of September before I would be able to upgrade my gear, and then I would probably have enough research cataloged I’ll go straight to level 6 on everything. Sub runs out in 16 days though so I probably won’t stay. Sure hoping for a hot fix, and clarification that ALL parts of tier 6 rep are account wide, not just sockets. :see_no_evil::hear_no_evil::speak_no_evil:

I consider myself casual and I don’t need help from any high end raiders.

This was discussed last month HERE.

The sentiment in that thread seemed to be that it is not a mistake and that Korthia catch-up gear is only intended for those that do NOT do participate in Raid, Mythic+, and rated PvP. It’s only for those folks that do LFR, heroic dungeons, and world quests. Subsequently, Blizz doesn’t want that subset of players to get ahead of those doing any/all of the primary 3 pillars of content, so it’s gated in both Archivist rep grind (Tier 6 for both 226 and 233 upgrades) AND both 226 and 233 upgrades are locked behind renown (61 and 75 respectively). That will keep those casuals from getting ahead of raiders, M+, and rated PvP players, who will already have better gear than 233 so don’t need/care about this heavy-handed rep & time-gated renown grind.

I don’t know if that sentiment is correct but it sure feels like it’s by design and not a misake.

I’ve been down there almost every day, missed about 3 days, but I do the bare minimum, farm rares that drop mounts and do daillies, I hit R5 only like 2 days ago.

You absolutely have to and have had to since 9.1 dropped farmed a good portion of rares, purple mobs, ‘chests’ and whatever else drops currency or you simply won’t be anywhere near R6.

And for anyone that raids or does M+ even just a key or two a week and some heroic raiding, chances are you won’t even need the gear upgrades. 226 most certainly should have came with R5, not both 226/233 with R6.

Hmm. Perhaps, but I’d disagree a bit. For heroic raiders and mythic+ key pushers Korthia gear may be worthless, but access to the gem slots and conduit upgrades wouldn’t be.

I’m a fortunate “friends and family” normal raiders who’s gotten my 3 unholy domination shards and I see many other purple swirlies when doing my dailies. I suspect there are a lot of us normal raiders who could still use a few slots of 226 gear to help out the grandmas and disabled folks push past the dps checks like Guardian.

My foolish hope was to save enough currency to upgrade one of the 207 staffs I got to “as high as possible”, i.e. 233. Because 233. Because weapon.

I already had had a 220/210 one hand/off hand set.

Well Tier 4 hit, and I was like “YEA BABY!” and bounced up to upgrade to at least 226.

Well, my nose still has the hematoma on it that I got when I found that door slammed in my face. When I saw I had to go Tier 6 for the 226 (much less the 233), that was it.

I gave up. No more farming, no more dailies, run the weekly for renown to do the campaign, and I was done with Korthia. With the campaign done, I have no need to go back (I can get renown other ways, and I don’t “need it” now anyway since the campaign is done).

I was lucky enough to get a 236? I think? Staff in the vault, after 2 M+s.

So, now all I “have” to do is 1 M+ a week to tickle the vault. M+ does drop loot, so it has value to run it more than once, but I only “have” to do it once.

For all of the SL content, plus the patch all I have left is M+.

Well, at least I can work on alts a bit now.

“See you in 9.2”

Exalted for what exactly? There is a set amount you can earn each day in Korthia. Only so many purple mobs, rares, chests, mushrooms, etc. That means it’s time-gated and limited by the developers not our laziness.
