Many of us in F&F raiding groups will be happy next week as 61 renown will allow us to upgrade Korthia gear to 226.
However, it has been observed that the item to unlock this also requires level 6 archivist’s research. Many people who haven’t grinded Korthia every day since patch probably won’t be there. I have (mostly) and I might barely make it. I might need an extra day or two.
What’s odd is the item to upgrade after that also requires level 6 research, but a higher renown.
My question is… why? Why isn’t the 226 unlock level 5? Was this an oversight or intended? I don’t understand. 226 is in no way gamebreaking, especially considering the grind that has been Korthia over the last 5-6 weeks. It’s not like it’s free or welfare. Seems odd to me.

Renown is just another word for REP… Its boring grind that never ends and its not worth my time

Requiring “level 6” for 226 seems like a bug. Hopefully someone at Blizzard can be made to believe this and put a hotfix in.

Someone made a typo in the coding and no one noticed. Now they don’t care.

They thought having tier 5 upgrade to 5/6 made too much sense.
Gotta subvert expectations.

It’s probably an oversight but then again, players who haven’t been grinding research since 9.1 release probably don’t need 226/233 gear right now. And if they do, they could’ve run Tazavesh or M+2’s already in that same time frame.
The conspiracists will tell you it’s purposely timegated to keep you playing, which might also be somewhat accurate

I’ve been saying for a bit now that whoever it was that had the job of making sure that the numbers and timing of things lined up either got laid off at some point, or should be. It’s like basic game functions that they put in themselves are taking them by surprise.
Like when they realized that the LFR release schedule meant that people would get to the end of the Covenant campaign before they could finish the raid and see the cutscene so they had to shoehorn the cinematic in to catch people up. Or how the amount of anima dropping early on meant that it would take literal years of grinding to get everything you could buy with anima, then they overcorrected but didn’t remove caps so people were left with tons of anima items that they couldn’t deposit.
I mean, I guess we know why now that the lights appear to be on but no one is home, but still.

just closing in on level 4 , level 6 will take someone like me with limited play time way too long, once again Blizz pushes my patience to the breaking point with unnecessary gating.

Sockets are also gated behind rank 6, which forces high end mythic raiders to farm Korthia alongside casual players. This does feed into the conspiracy theory that high end players are incentivized to do trivial content with casuals and new players to increase the chances of success for those players.

I keep hoping this too, that it’s just an oversight no one at the company noticed yet and will be fix.
Hope.

Do tazavesh hard mode and normal raiding for easy 233 gear.
How does a casual player need Mythic raiders alongside them in Korthia to increase success? Nothing in Korthia requires having good gear.

Everything you said is wrong.
You could be exalted already. The only gate was one of your own making
Renown is another word for Time Gate. That is its sole purpose in the game. Renown is used to drag out everything for months that would normally be completed in hours or days/ It exists to try and fool you into thinking the game has more than a scant amount of content.

not everyone can play every day multiple hours at a time, what part of his post saying it is too long for limited time players don’t you understand, this ridiculous grind for very average gear is a slap in the face to people with jobs and raising a family at the same time.

SLAP IN DA FACE! /drinks
It’s a rep grind. Same as any rep grind. Crying about gating when you could be done already is stupid and shows you don’t even know what your buzzwords mean.
