I don’t think there are many people who actually want it to fail. I’m sure there are some.
But what I’m concerned about is this assertion that retail should just “be like classic was” and it would be better. I loved classic back in the day, I think it would be painful to play now, though, and I am fine with the way retail is going.
So in that sense, I want to make clear that there are people who don’t want it to fail, but who want to make sure it’s clear what it is: a niche classic version of the game.
I can get behind that! As long as we are hoping for success, because that breeds even more success, which means better games and more enjoyment for the masses!
1: Belluar pointed out the last time they announced numbers and did the math based on polls and it averages to around 2 million subs lost over the 3 months around xmas HOWEVER that could be a variable number as alot of people go on vacation or travel during those 3 months.
2: Actually now if hes doing what he claims and says hes sitting there going “whos excited for x” and 3 guys answer in general chat and 2 of them reply in /s and when he whispers them they again reply in /s rather than whisper; theres ways to DEDUCE it but not to tell if they are or arent youre both correct in a sense.
3: You not being able to raid was a sign of being lazy (VERY low % of people actually were do i doubt you were) or a sign of you trying to raid after the raids had been done; this is why i want rolling seasons on servers; Then someone like you who didnt get to do MC because you werent 60 can still do MC. We see the same thing in retail/live today; NO ONE does uldir; and if there werent catch up mechanics for gear you would be forced to do it or never raid that expansion since you cant gear up to the required point for BoD.
Youre not wrong but youre not right; if that makes sense.
I don’t think anyone should start discussing the failure of classic here. Its not a topic thats needed here and yeah, there are people who would praise if Blizzard decided to just shut down the whole thing right now.
F* those people.
We will play classic and enjoy it. Others tell me that I don’t enjoy it but we will see. That is the whole discussion really. I don’t want BFA to fail, but I honestly think its in the process of failing. I’m rooting for the sub count to rise, not fall like it is.
The expansion after BFA I hope will be radically different. We need like another “cata” like expansion. Not just for the world but even for game play and the design philosophies.
The last time Blizzard reported subscription numbers was during the first 9 months of WoD and that number was 5.6M.
No one outside of a few offices in Irvine, CA knows the current population of BFA or the population trends since early WoD to now.
No one outside of a few offices in Irvine, CA will know how many people are playing which version of WoW and it won’t even matter because it’s the same $14.99 either way and adds up to even more MAU numbers which are tracked by company, and not by title.
So yeah, if you’re happy to pay for continuing development for mobile games and retail WoW then sure, I hope Classic is as successful as you are hoping!
I’m sorry, anyone who uses “laziness” as a reason for anything here is not be intellectually honest. And this is exactly the kind of attitude that I do not miss.
Not raiding, then as now, has nothing to do with laziness. WoW is my game time, not my job time.
Anywho, with that out of the way: I can say the main reasons I couldn’t raid were:
I was behind the curve, it took me a while to get to 60.
Irregular schedule (I was in school).
Was kind of boring compared to levelling with IRL friends.
I mean if 100k people or 250k enjoy Classic more power to them but saying stuff like millions or all players from retail will leave from retail is going to Classic not being realistic at all not you but alot of people have said that lately. The reason im going by this number is simple there was supposely that many people on the Classic private servers i never used them don’t like useing ilegal stuff.
And you wonder why people keep getting sick of classic fanatic posters? You keep quoting this made up number as if it is fact.
Classic was raid or die. There was so little to actually do in Vanilla as a casual.
You are ignoring that abilities get progressively more expensive as you level and that 13g in 7.5 hours means almost 600 hours for 1000g. That of course ignores that you will run out of quests in Vanilla, you will have to buy your ranked abilities, you will most likely want to pay 100g for the level 40 mounts (which I actually skipped), you will want to buy bags, you will want to get weapons enchanted.
Yeah I know exactly how it was. I was there, I lived it.
im sorry but i know people who litterally sat in Ironforge just talking with people rather than coming to a dungeon with me when i offered them because they wanted to make friends; i dont begrudge it; its an online game, everyone should make friends on it; but when thats all he did after hitting 60 its laziness in my eyes when he complained that he couldnt do BWL with us because he didnt come to MC, Again its A VERY SMALL % of people who did this however but yea; there are people out there who dont take opportunities and then complain when they dont get the same thing as the people who did take the opportunity
There is a difference between a prediction and wanting it to be true. Does anyone TRULY want classic to fail? A small minority probably, but most probably don’t care either way.
Classic, by design, is not self sustainable and, more importantly, is very “closed in”. You aren’t going to get new players in 6 months. Your raid pool is incredibly finite and you won’t get replacements by the nature of gear progression.
When we are 10 months down the line or whatever number it is and little Timmy just hits 60 and wants to raid, there won’t be a team to recruit him. They will all be in AQ40 or whatever and not want ANYTHING to do with MC/BWL since they JUST spent 5 months in there already let alone going back to POTENTIALLY get a drop for Timmy’s shaman when only paladin gear drops. This is also under the assumption Timmy doesn’t loot-n-scoot.
Ion already said in an interview that the sub count was low, but not as low as WoD’s worst.
Also you have the fact that blizzard lost 8% of all their MAU in 1 quarter. Year to year its 16% loss.
Look at things like Realmpop. There are 3.5 million lvl 120s. If every account only has 1 lvl 120, that is 3.5 million players.
The truth is, there are a lot of players who don’t have lvl 120s. To a lot of people’s suprise. Also how many accounts have 4 120s? 6 120s? 20 120s? 30? They do exist. They average out to more than 1 120 per account naturally.
We can guess but we’re not wrong. Legion had more subs than BFA. BFA is the second worst sub count of WoW’s history, as from the data we derive including Blizzard’s own reports.
What will they say? Blizzard - We made a huge amount of money for the stockholders! Lets roll out BC and then WotLK as well! Players in Classic - Having a blast! Players in Retail - Having great time in 8.2 maybe 8.3. If you’re not any of those players you may want to consider another game.
it becomes laziness when you complain about not being able to do a raid because you wont do dungeons. thats either entitlement or laziness, theres no other word for wanting something that comes from effort but being unwilling to provide ced effort, it doesnt matter that its a game or work; it has a reward and you dont get the reward without putting in time and effort.
Youre right in the sense that the reward is just 1s and 0s on a screen though vs ACTUAL work which gives you money. But on basis without specifics of what the effort is thats required; its either laziness or entitlement.
IF he had been all “nah idc about raiding thats why i dont do dungeons” then its preference; but he complained about not being able to do raiding when he wouldnt do dungeons with us.
