BfA added like, 98 mounts IIRC and SL gave us some where around 140. So… almost 50% of the achievement could come from the last 2 xpacs.
So yeah you’re probably right. It’s not that rare.
one of a batch of brand new models. They designed like 5-6 of them. This is the equivalent of the 500 mount achievement coming out in SL 9.1 and them giving us a Shardhide from Korthia.

there is 4 other armored reskins and 5 non armored reskins of it, plus for 500 i believe it should be something unique if not more unique than 10 versions of it availiable…

Excuse me? The shardhide is just a bear.
It would be more analogous to getting one of the hand mounts. Something that’s actually new.
To be fair, all mount achievement mounts have been recolors - just mostly raid mounts.
Surprised it’s not a green/orange recolor of Jaina’s mount, tbh.
ill take a recolor of jaina’s mount because at least it flies and wont only be used in raid instances or places that you cant fly
That’s the point of feedback and CC forums, hopefully a collector speaks up for the playerbase that want unique rewards.
Devs change philosophies all the time, that’s how we got more account wide content, less borrow power…etc, just saying well this cosmetic issue is not a big deal because Devs always provided recolors…so it’s fine to continue with the same pattern…everything is fine guys… It’s not listening to the playerbase.

I understand that all of the previous achievement mounts were recolors. As a mount collector, I want my achievement for 500 mounts to be something where I hop on it, and the room goes silent in awe. With this otter, as previously stated, there are at least 4 other versions of this. It’s hard to get noticed on a recolor of an otter in a room full of otters. This otter mount is the equivalent of going “Oh, you have the red Subaru outback? I have the green Subaru outback!” Sure it’s a better upgrade from the ford pinto. However, I want a mount for my 500 that’s the equivalent of something like the 1998 McLaren F1 LM (since I’m using cars as an example).

That’s never going to happen lol. If they did that, I’d be annoyingly insistent every single day until they add a similar mount for battle pet collecting, cause as it stands now, pet collecting means nothing really cause no one notices battle pets. 
Same with Toys. lol.
I know that’s never going to actually happen. My point is still valid though. And if you are a pet collector, then i hope you get your pet that makes other pet collectors drool in awe.

Like I said, I’m surprised it’s not a recolor of a mount like Jaina’s. The mount achievement mounts are usually raid recolors.
Perfectly acceptable to be unhappy with it. I just think expecting something unique and awe inspiring is setting yourself up to be disappointed. Cause they don’t extend that courtesy to other collecting types either.
Hell, the TWO THOUSAND unique pets achievement (that won’t be achieveable for 6+ years, btw) is a recolor of an island expedition pet that costs like 200-500g.
And maybe they should do unique and cool things for landmark achievements in all of those categories. I don’t believe it’s wrong to hope for something better and more unique to show that you’ve collected * a lot*.

What’s a bit funny/sad is that rewards like this aren’t so much to reward people who already have a good collection, but rather to rope in people who haven’t gotten the collecting bug yet.
It’s a big missed opportunity on their part, and strange since they obviously understand gamer psychology.

My point is not for just “when it comes out”. Yes, sure. I will have the new and shiny mount. But in a year? It’ll just be a run of the mill then with 4 other recolors.
i get that and like i said earlier in the thread, i get it’s my fault for getting my expectations up.
i guess i’m just kinda sad that they gave the mage tower people a unique mount rather a recolour of, say, one of the dozens of fel bats that were all over legion, because they recognised it was a difficult achievement and people who had it were entitled to something with a ‘wow!’ factor. i just checked my log - i earned my albino drake in 2008; i’ve been collecting mounts at a steady pace for fourteen years and my reward in 2022/3 is a recoloured vendor mount.

And? Novelty wears off. That’s like…definitional. I can’t remember the last time I used any of the collection achievement mounts other than the Frostshard Infernal.
I mean, of course. I’m a druid. I never use mounts. But to me, collecting is about having something that very few people have. Yes, I understand what you are saying. No you’re not wrong. My point is that this new otter is still one of 4 other recolors for an achievement that VERY few people will get. I believe it to be unfair that someone who has spent years farming mounts to get up to 500 mounts to be rewarded something that isn’t as unique as the achievement. All of my previous points are still valid on this matter.
at the bare minimum i want a flier so at least ill be able to use it in non DF zones, that is a big kicker for me
