Which would be 50,000 players per million.
A Dev at one point asked us to let them know if we were gonna bump into that 50 toon cap, so I’m letting them know.

Having a ton of characters doesn’t mean we play them all. We don’t have some sort of disorder because we have a lot of characters.
I’m so tired of this attitude from people.
Some of us are pack rats. Some of us have a sentimental attachment to them. Some of us pull them out for different storylines for RP. There are a lot of different reasons people have a lot of characters. And for different reasons, those characters don’t get deleted.
Stop insulting and judging what you don’t understand.
And we know this how? Ion even mentioned that they might look into changing it.
Yup. This ^
Ummmm…that means a third sub fee. Unless you’re offering to pay it for me? That’s so GENEROUS of you!!!
While I do sometimes triple box or (very rarely) quad box, I don’t enjoy it.
Characters take database space. And 50 is quite a large number. I can remember back when we told Blizzard we wanted to have more characters per server (prior to additional races/classes) and we were essentially given the answer that they didn’t believe people were actively playing that many characters. They’ve changed their stance on that quite a bit.
However, I think 50 is probably still a really big number and the number of people actively playing that many on an account is likely still quite small. So it’s probably an outlier. We do have ways to bypass that limit–additional accounts. I don’t see them giving us additional space per account. At least not in the near future.
Thank you!!! Especially now, when leveling has been nerfed so much and feels so boring and tedious. I’ve done all the content many times over. To delete a toon that would take many hours to replace, or that is on a server that I might want to play on again some day (and not pay for server transfers) is just not tolerable.
As it stands, I’d heard they’d let you restore deleted toons. I thought I could get them back. What I didn’t realize, is that they DO get deleted (sometimes pretty quickly) if they aren’t high level. So those toons I cleared to make space are just GONE.
The people providing unhelpful/unkind input are either lacking in analytical and reasoning skills, empathy (they’re trolls that would pick on ANY post), and/or horribly fail at managing game time efficiently, so I kinda pity them.
If you have that many toons you simply cannot have the time to play them all. You sound like a hoarder on WoW that makes a ton of low level garbage alts or alts in general and stops playing them, but refuses to delete most of the time.
Why? Obviously because those are 2 different limits, and are not related.
The per-realm limit used to be 11, or maybe 10. It gets increased every couple years. Now they’ve removed it. There is NO per-realm limit now.
That does not change the 50-per-account limit.
I dont recall the exact number, but TOR lets you have over 100 characters. If the mess of a game that is TOR can do it, WoW can do it.
If more than 50 is just a super rare outlier, then increasing the cap past 50 wouldnt take up much more database space since almost no one would have that many, characters, no?
Either way, the database space argument went out the window ages ago when Blizz decided to archive every single character I’ve ever deleted in the restoration thing. I can restore characters I deleted in Cata.
And how many of this 50 toon you’ve actually played? This really is a form of hording. I can barely play 2 toon to the max w/o running out of time
Why does it matter? Why do I have to be constantly playing every single character I have? How does increasing the cap for people who like making tons of alts effect you in literally any way?
If you’ve been playing since vanilla then you can easily hit the 50 character limit. Stop being stingy and increase the cap already. I’m not going to be able to enjoy any new races they put out soon.
Exactly, and the ‘lul just delete them’ thing doesnt really work. Believe it or not, when you’ve had a character for more than half your life, you dont just want to delete it so you can make a new character.
So let’s say they raise to sixty, are you going to beg for 70 after? And then 80? 90? When does it stop?
How about just removing the cap entirely? Theres no point to it.
It stops when they stop adding new races? I guess
If it is unlimited, it has to be programmed differently.
I’m an experienced programmer, but I do not know how this was programmed into the game. It could be quite easy, or it could be very difficult, depending on how it was programmed.
By now there are millions of lines of code in WoW. Is the 50 limit in 2 spots in the code, or in 2,000 spots in the code? I don’t know, and it really could be either.
IF (back in 2013) the programmer who set the limit as 50 PLANNED for expanding it later, then it is programmed carefully in a way that is easy to increase. Maybe it could be done by 1 person in a couple weeks.
But IF he didn’t…
Currently I’m at
120: 41
110-119: 4 (1 is 110 twink)
80: 1 (For Herald of the Titans FoS when I find a group )
40: 1 (my newly made Zandalari)
47 characters
I still need to do Dark Iron and Kul’Tiran so that’ll be 49 and when Blizz adds a new class I’ll have hit the account cap :*( I’ve already come to terms with having to make a new account to go past the cap but I would really like it if I could just merge two accounts so I have access to all my characters in one window. Or the cap was increased
“Your fun is wrong” applies so much in this thread. There is nothing wrong with having lots of characters.
Blizzard please increase the account limit. Any more allied races and I just might not be able to create any of them because there is no space. Deleting existing characters isn’t a solution. That is just shifting the problem to something else.
yeah, this is a you problem. you’re clearly addicted to an unfeasible level.
