3rd Spec Suggestion: Dread

Another idea for a third specialization. A kind of DPS/Heal spec.

Concept for “Dread” spec

DH who focuses on Dreadlords and the Emerald Nightmare. Vampirism, fear, dots, plenty of ranged abilities but still requires to go into melee. The green from Fel is replaced mostly by the blood red tint seen on DLs and the Nightmare.

This third specialization has melee-ranged playstyle, less mobility but more ranged stuff to do. The spec is mainly DPS, but could also have a “support heal” on top of its DPS role. “Smart-healing”, meaning it sends the healing automatically to the weakest ally. Requires less uptime but abilities have dots to reduce its bursty potential and help make healing more efficient.

Safe to say the healing shouldn’t be strong. Definitely not as strong as typical healers.

The DPS portion shouldn’t be bursty, at least. No Chaos Bolt nuking people in one hit.

  1. Basic Self-healing/Support Effects:
  • Vampiric Aura - Healing received by the DH are siphoned to allies within this aura. Also increases leech.

  • Frailty could definitely work well within this spec. Some abilities should definitely apply this debuff on this spec.

  • Demonic Apetite and Soulcrush should be part of this spec.

  • Many talents can have great synergy with this playstyle. The Hunt, Soul Rending, Charred Remains, etc.

  1. Rotation Spells and Skills:
  • Carrion Swarm is the spec “Eye Beam”, which transforms you. Instant, Plague damage. Does most of of its damage instantly and the rest over a long time. Damage can shatter soul fragments.

  • Nightfire - Similar to Throw Glaive, bounces an extra target, but it’s a spell. Looks like a Nightmare Moonfire. Deals fire damage, generates fury. Receives the benefits from Master of Glaives and Bouncing Glaives.

  • Dark Ruination (Immolation) - Lasts 10 secs, leaves a fire dot on anyone it touches. The more targets afflicted, the more fury it generates.

  • Blade Dance/Tormenting Swipe - Same BD. Also increases damage for each dot enemies have. Turns to Shadow damage and gains increased range within Meta.

  • Soul Cleave/Leeching Claws - Same Soul Cleave, with Leeching Claws leaving an extra HoT buff on the DH. It can stack. Turns to Shadow damage and gains increased range within Meta.

  1. Utility, CC and Mobility:

-The Hunt has more of a “Shadowstep” vibe here, blinking behind the target instead of charging.

-Dread March - This is Fel Rush/Infernal Strike replacement. Only a passive that increases movement by 10%. Felfire Haste gives 3% additional MS everytime Nightfire deals damage, stacks 5 times.

-Infiltration of Dread - This is a mix of mobility with stealth. Shroud yourself in shadows and teleport to the targeted position. Lasts 5 secs, can’t be broken by damage but it is cancelled the moment you take another action. 45sec/1min cd.

-Sleep (Imprison) - Imprison that can take a few punches before breaking. Has a cast time, though.

-Waking Nightmare (Fel Eruption) - Target gets pacified for 5 seconds. They can still move but can’t take any actions.

-Paranoia - Affects multiple enemies with a debuff that will be triggered if they move within 10 yrds of one another, causing them to flee in horror.

-Illusionary Night (Darkness) - 25yrd area around the DH - Similarly, creates a field around the DH (not on the floor! that’s awful mechanic!) that provides some basic avoidance and hides everyone within. This spell won’t allow single target aiming, only AoE works on anyone within.

And maybe a talent that increases the amount of damage CC can take before breaking from DoT damage.

Anyway. That’s it.

I didn’t think much about what mastery effect could do. Perhaps increases the % of healing received from damage? Increases leech on top of passive movement?

TL,DR;

Dreadlord spec! :dracthyr_love_animated:

Or, check this, we just have 2 specs.

More options would be nice.

Love this, i am seeing so many unique concepts by players for a 3rd DH spec. Don’t get discouraged by few random trolls saying “2specs are fine” “3rd spec will screw up the class” etc. They just make these claims over their own random delusional assumptions.

All a 3rd spec will do, is bring more depth to the class and make it more fun.

Except there are core issues with both Veng and Havoc that have been around forever and do need to be addressed and adding a 3rd spec would just make that worse. Get the two we have right first then think about adding a 3rd.

I don’t think any issue any class might have is a matter of priority. Seems to be mostly a design choice that results in problems.

Specially considering what a lot of people complain about tends to be a matter of balance, not mechanics, as in how rewarding certain talents are, which seems so easy to fix. :dracthyr_shrug:

Adding a third may help with DH issues.

All other classes have bigger class tree’s because there are 3 classes to fill the tree.

All other classes get some baseline abilities for each spec.

A new DH spec could help prune out the DH class tree and add some much needed baseline abilities.

I was thinking here. I might’ve added way too much passive on that idea.

Maybe some active stuff to increase the leeching, like brands or alternative abilities to the filler ones.

For example, one that deals more damage but less healing, while another provides less damage and more healing.
