I’m not good with computers and trying to save money because my current rig is so old and falling apart.
Thinking of buying a 3060ti but other people tell me I can maybe spend more and go for a 1080ti or 3080ti, but the price is a big jump it seems.
Anyone here use a 3060ti on WoW?
The RTX3060ti (assuming you can find one) will easily handle WoW (although I believe WoW needs to a new patch to handle the RTX 3xxx series better) even at 4k assuming your processor can handle it.
i think CPU matters more still.
I’ve got a 3080 and its never even close to maxed out when it matters, and that’s on a 5ghz 8700k.
3060ti + a fast CPU is better overall performance than spending it all on a 3080ti (for however much it costs when it eventually luanches)
Oh, good points about the CPU as well.
I will be getting a 3700x paired with a 3060ti. Just hoping that will let me have more than 55-60fps in WoW.
It’s confusing how a 3060ti compares to a 1080, which to my understanding is still a good GPU and holds up to the 3060.
1080p/1440p heck even 4k on a 3060ti 55-60fps in wow should be easy to get, just know in some areas it will tank no matter what hardware you got.
A 5600x or better will give you more average performance than the 3700x, but just know sometimes FPS sucks no matter what.
Check YouTube out for videos comparing video cards and CPUs. There’s one guy that does WoW comparisons as well.
The 3060ti is more comparable to a 2080 and costs alot less. Again there’s YouTube videos comparing them.
Thanks, do you this this YT’ers name by any chance?
I more concerned about FPS than graphics atm, as I find in most games I play I chunk out sometimes.
WoW is very much not a GPU-heavy game, especially if something like 2560x1440 60Hz is the target. Prior to repurposing my tower as a living room machine I was running WoW on a 5700 XT and I was getting a solid 60FPS with 2560x1440 ultra everywhere except places where my CPU (6700k) became a bottleneck.
Now I’m playing WoW on an even less capable GPU (Pro Vega 56) with a CPU about on par with the 6700k in single core performance (but has more cores) and after turning a couple of settings down the result isn’t all that different from what I was seeing with the 5700 XT.

Cpu/GPU could use a repasting if you haven’t ever done it and it’s been years since you had the PC.
Couple my friends had old Dell i7’s they were complaining about and after replacing the stock cpu cooler (Intel cpu coolers suck) it helped them enjoy it still. Gpu’s can suffer from old thermal paste as well.

Those stock coolers are legendary levels of bad. Does Intel still ship them with mid-to-high end chips? Because seriously, they’re not really fit for anything past office use.
I don’t even know anything about Intel, tbh. I’m only familiar with AMD lingo and products.
Do the new Ryzen CPU’s come with decent paste/fans? I should read up on the stock cooler for the 3700x and see if I need to buy a better fan.
The bundled AMD coolers+paste are alright, nothing stellar, but a great deal better than the intel coolers.
That said upgrading to something significantly better (for both cooling and noise) is pretty cheap, so I would wholeheartedly recommend doing so unless room inside case, budget, etc are prohibitive.
Do you know if the coolers on the new Ryzens are noisy? That’s one thing that really bothers me with my current set up. As soon as I power down my PC it’s like night and day in terms of noise in my room. Especially with WoW running.
Not sure if I should eventually go for some kind of liquid cooling or find a better fan to put on.
They ship a box cooler with anything not K
They are sufficient for most applications but they’re inferior even to the wraith stealth (although not by much).
I have two hanging around - one from the i7-8700 and another from an i5-9400 which both goth upgrades since I won’t use them. Arctic Freezer 33 on the 8700 and Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi on the 9400.

Depends on what you’re doing. Epic BGs needs both a good cpu and good gpu.
If you are getting a 3700x this late in the game over a 5600x or 5800x (which are in stock quite frequently for hours at a time if you are running an “in-stock stream” on youtube or twitch, then you are being foolish.
You’ll see huge gains with Zen 3 with the new Ryzen 5 series.
I think the real question that needs answering is “where are you getting a rtx 3060ti from that isn’t costing you the equivalent of a rent check?”

I checked used prices on GPUs at present - virtually every graphics card I own is worth as much or more now than when I purchased them.
Even the RX 470 i got in 2016 for $159, which was warranty replaced with a BNIB RX 570 4gb, is now seemingly lost almost no value

microcenter has a GTX1660 super for $40 over MSRP and I seriously thought to myself “Wow (no pun intended) what a bargain” and then reality hit me that card should be nowhere near that price unless you live in our current scenario.
