When does the spell power kick in and start working? I put it on a skinning knife
Spell power functions differently based on the spell and the spell rank.
I don’t have exact numbers but basically a rank 1 spell only gains X amount of spell power or has a breakpoint where spell power no longer increases its effectiveness, otherwise people would just spam rank 1 spells all day.
Also Different spells gain different amounts of spell power, for example frost bolt might get less damage overall from your spellpower than shadowbolt.
I’m sure someone else could explain this better if you need further clarification.
All spells have 2 ratios:
- Cast speed directly reduces the SP ratio. Spells over 3 seconds gain 1:1 ratio.
- All spells below level 20 have significantly reduced ratios.
Combine both of these and the 30 sp dagger do very little early on. However even gaining 10 spell damage at level one is massive for leveling efficiency. The SP dagger is BIS until literally outland greens unless you raid/dungeon at 58 or so.

I am gearing up my buddies shaman he wants to try out before new world comes out and i thought putting spell power on a knife would help him but apparently you need to put it on like the WC quest staff before its worth a crap.
Just use fiery weapon. Cheaper and better than wanding.
