So yea 2h Frost needs to come back and there are many different ways for it to do so. So lets put our heads together and discuss how it could be done. We have heard why it could not or should not come back.
Now lets focus on how it can and how it would work
I’m fairly certain that this thread is going to suffer the same fate as every other 2H frost thread that pops up. But, here we go! This is just stuff I’ve suggested in the other threads.
Have all abilities be based off of AP instead of weapon damage. I think this is already the case but don’t quote me on that. Anyways, this on its own equalizes ability damage between 2H and DW.
Change all procs to be PPM instead of percentage, including killing machine. This makes 2H and DW equal there too.
Allow two runes on two-handed weapons or have a 2H rune that combines fallen crusader and razor ice. That way both 2H and DW have the same runes at work. The bonus frost damage from razor ice also helps balance out the white damage difference between the two, since it’s be applying on every swing for 2H as opposed to MH only for DW.
That’s it, that’s all you need. DW and 2H are now close enough in damage that they’re both viable and are affected near equally by any buffs and needs to core frost abilities.
This is already the case. Some current calculations are based on a MH and OH hit, though, so additional adjustments would be necessary. And it’s not as simple as as reducing the entire ability to a single hit even while dual-wielding, as hitting with both weapons is integral to procs and would be imbalanced in regards to your third suggestion.
They are already PPM, and were PPM even in Wrath. This alone does not equalize the two because PPM is just a normalizing formula for balancing total procs based on weapon speed, and not whether or not someone has a second weapon also proc’ing said effects. PPM is still a percentage to proc, it’s just a percentage based on your weapon speed.
So while Fallen Crusader procs are relatively the same, since each weapon set only has one swing going for it, Killing Machine is still favored by dual-wield because it has two auto-attack swings that can proc.
Two-hand lacking Razorice is huge for total Frost damage output, but the auto-attack damage it adds is practically meaningless, and two-hand would already put out more auto damage anyways due to the dual-wield miss penalty.
Additionally, more exact math would have to be done to determine the differences in proc rates such as FC due to that miss penalty, and the effects of dual-wield’s OH specials never missing - in the past, dual-wield had the advantage due to the latter. It might be an insignificant difference now, but I’m not able to math it out at the moment. However, it would also be subject to change patch to patch, or expansion to expansion based on total melee special hits for current design. Point being, it’s not a perfect balance.
At this point and time I would like to see what all 3 specs of DK could do with dw and 2h. I would also like to see blood dps come back.
And yes not being able to use two runes on a 2h would hurt. But then that opened a way to play 2h you could either focus on frost damage or focus around oblit and crusader and the strength it gives and go for the big obliterate dmg.
Giving up either rune is a dps loss. It would also change in just how 2h is played, burst window from FC proc, or steady constant damage from razorice. Either route you go 2h will be behind.
It has been suggested many times that all that Blizzard needs to do to bring it back so it’s at least playable is remove weapon restrictions. That would at least allow people to play it but it would be difficult to actually get anywhere in game when you are intentionally nerfing yourself.
Abilities are calculated by attack power and weapon dps resulting in a very small, like double digit small, between 2h and DW. So if the playstyle isn’t changing then all that is really left is the runeforge.
There could be an issue, in actual game mechanics, of allowing 2h weapons have 2 enchant since it could cause all 2h weapons to have 2 enchant slots. That would mean fury then has 4 enchant slots. So for there to not even be a remote chance of that happening, they just create a new 2h specific runeforge to combine them.
It’s really not that hard of a solution. That will probably make it the most balanced between the 2 weapon sets ever.
Blizzard has their reasons for not doing it because this exact suggestion has been made expansion after expansion. What it is, no one knows. If it’s even a good reason, no one knows either.
I really never understood why they introduced a two 1h spec to a class that’s traditional a 2h class other than to add players extra “options” for weapons… So yea bring back 2h frost!
If a 2h weapon is equipped modify the background aura and alter how much specific abilities hit for. This allows for different game play similar to arms warrior where target switching and burst are more on demand but overall dps is the same.
So basically just bring back MotFW, cata version. Just a flat % melee buff to try to counteract the extra rune and increased amount of km procs DW had, and it also didnt work.
All they really have to do to bring it back is lift weapon restrictions, to balance it a new 2h runeforge combining Fallen Crusader and Razorice. The later has been a known difference, and a significant one, since wrath.
You strawmanned me because I didn’t say anything close to… “So basically just bring back MotFW, cata version. Just a flat % melee buff to try to counteract the extra rune and increased amount of km procs DW had.”… You are putting words into my mouth and arguing against yourself. ROFL wtf.
“Aura” and “Specific Abilities” =/= “Flat % melee buff”
I’ve spelled this out for you before but you would rather talk to yourself.
