I pay around $3 a day for a cup of capuccino from my favorite local cafe. That’s…what…almost $90 a month for coffee, the pleasure of which lasts a very short time. So, comparatively speaking, $25 a month for the many hours of fun this game gives me is a sneeze, financially.

And I’m retired and living on a limited pension.

You can make enough gold to buy WoW tokens. Just do a stream and you get 3 months in 5 minutes without needing to farm.

Subs are excluded that go through their 1 month, 6 month, 12 month recurring. So you should still be unchanged, thus fine.

That is what everyone is trying to figure out. Something is definitely fishy here… and if it really does cost them more money to charge for game time… why doesn’t it cost more for everyone who buys game time instead of a sub???

They can control the price on the game card. Not the sub. The sub they use a generic purchase system in the backend. 15 is 15. If some country for some reason has a 2 to 1 USD rate…well then they pay 7.50 Since the purchase system handles that.

For Blizzard to “fix” this…US sub price must go up. That would not go well obviously.

So they can hit the game card.

I’ve seen this with games in asia. Their solutions have included paying out to yet another purchase handling entity to take payments. The local charging service deals with the nitty gritty of currency fluctuations and not the game maker.

For example when CCP pushed for eve more into the Asian markets to include Japan they pushed you to a purchase system in place for the Asian realm. And it was not 15 a month. It was more.

this got them getting their actual 15 from say Japanese subs. Because at times in the past yen rate got really good for us.

A player in japan could be paying less than 15 with yen rate using CCP’s at the time one and only payment system. BY payng to use a current and local pay system CCP got their full 15. This service charged at least 1900 yen a month. Rough 19 dollars assuming a 100 yen to 1 dollar rate.

The TL:DR tinfoil is blizzard doesn’t want to do what CCP did and pay for a region specific payment system so to make up for currency fluctuations they are hitting the game cards since they can control them.

edit: side note of this why for eve for a bit I used gtc (game time code). I’d get my game codes from a US site and vendor and paid just the 15. And not the 1900 yen. Blizzard it seems learned from this bypass…there will be no US vendors with $15 cards/codes.
