This is a rather vague question considering we don’t know the point you’re at, what your experience is, etc.

If you’re absolutely fresh into PvP and have little to no experience, then it’s a lengthy conversation, but a good one.

If you’re 2k experienced, that’s different.

Considering you’re “fairly new” though, let’s go over some fundamentals.

  1. Remember that positioning is important. Always play with your team and your healer especially. Remember that your healer is not a miracle worker, and if you go behind a pillar and out of their line, especially as a demon hunter, you can and will be punished.
  1. Remember that as a melee dps in the current meta, running at the right target is important. As a demon hunter, you have a lot of swap potential. If you’re hitting into a team with a resto druid and your target isn’t dying, swapping’s never a bad idea provided you communicate that to your teammate. If you cannot communicate it due to being in something like solo shuffle, cleave when possible, and hard swap if you think you can secure a kill on your own.
  1. Disrupting a healer is very important in all forms of PvP, or if fighting a form of wizard cleave, disrupting a kill target. Kicks and stuns at opportune times will lead to better results. Another good example of disruption is proper crowd control you can facilitate yourself such as imprison on healer, into full fear sigil. After that, your partners should follow up.
  1. Knowing when to do damage is important. If you’re fighting an arms warrior and he stupidly pops defensives in your face while you haven’t popped anything, do not Hunt → Essence Break him. Wait for DBS to fall, and then punish the target and capitalize on his improper use of defensive cooldowns. This goes for all targets. Similarly, going back to the hard swapping idea, if a druid overgrowth ironbark’s their target, swapping to the druid and throwing him into a stun out of form is a great way to get massive damage out, especially if he’s not pre-hotted.

Hopefully that helps. If you have more specific questions or more pinpointed ideas of improvement you’re seeking, that’ll be easier to speak on other than just a general blurb all people should know about arena.
