2 Year Server Restarts

Would you be interested in keeping Classic around in the form of two year server restarts? Every 2 years, the server would restart fresh and you would start from level 1 again. The Phases would roll out as they are currently in Classic. This would keep a segment of Classic WoW alive and providing those players with a chance to reroll every two years after finishing Naxx. I’m not sure how long a server will survive if it didn’t roll into a later expansion if Naxx was the end-game. I’m just trying to think of a way to keep classic fresh. Obviously these servers would be marked so players would know this would happen at some point so it wouldn’t be a surprise. This would allow players who enjoy the classic version of WoW to continually play it and reroll as characters in each phase if they choose to.

What is everyone’s thoughts on this, yay or nay? Other ideas??

So when you’re full Naxx and nothing to do to progress your character, what then?

I then quit, i have no interest in starting over and doing same crap again. I cannot even comprehend how those try hard sweaties played pservers for years grinding on their warriors ranks over, over, over and over again and did it again classic. Farming HOJ/SGC everytime with new server…like what the hell

We all played blizz games long enough. Them rolling stuff back and resetting will be the last option. they always try to avoid deleting stuff that people have worked for on their characters. I can see them trying to fix the gold problem but that is about it.

or start a diff class. theres much to do. couldnt play if i had to restart every so often. so many fun gear pieces and drops just for the hell of it. like the mount from UD. idc, i want it. i play for flavor and fun. and im having fun playing it just the way it is now. i quit wow for years and i only came back for classic.

I’d unsub. Classic is good and all, but I’ve been done with it for months. It’s difficult to get 40 consistent players every week. Content is bland. Not even the slightest bit interested in Naxx. If it wasn’t for rumored TBC, i’d have unsubbed already.

Nay, I like the idea, but in reality it is worse than what retail has to offer. Like retail it would quickly feel pointless.
Why work your butt off for something that will be deleted/irrelevant for sure?

Make it a personal choice, if YOU want to restart every 2 years, regardless of phase, just delete your geared out level 60 and start over. No need to force your desires on everyone.

The phases play a roll though. There are differences and being able to find groups in earlier phases than later ones. Phase 6 constant and restarting is just boosting leveling, etc. Phase 1 there are zero boosters and you actually get to level with people and get pre-BIS with people. It seems like there is a clear market for classic wow and maybe I’m mistaken here, but I would think if a fresh server were to be introduced at the end of Phase 6 (maybe even post-TBC) that was classic only and restarted every 2 years, there would be a segment of the population that would be for this.

You roll an alt and do it all for another class. That’s an mmo, not restarting progress all over again. Or, take a break.

So, because of challenges to leveling and getting groups in later phases, you want everyone to start over from scratch to make it easy ? I don’t agree. I am leveling up my druid, I’ve been able get groups, yes it is a bit more difficult, but then I enjoy the challenge. I may end up leveling a couple of more characters given the time.

I’m saying there are dedicated servers to this, not every single server. It would be a choice.

Absolutely not! Took 2 years to get to where I am today. Not starting over.

I wouldn’t want to see this done to the existing servers if that’s what you are suggesting. I definitely think that creating new realms like you describe or with these/similar elements could be very fun. For example Old School Runescape created a new game mode called deadman mode which was/is a fresh world with world pvp leading into a seasonal tournament and then resetting the world for the new tournament season. They also kept the first season’s world as a permanent Deadman mode world and now have the new seasonal worlds created and then reset. In this particular case the Tournamnet aspect makes the fact that the character you create will be deleted worth it. I don’t think I would play on a wow classic server that resets without some sort of bigger picture game aspect/element. So I do think that new unique servers/realms with new game modes and types of play has a lot of potential. Keep brainstorming ideas.

Now that is an idea, when they close up dead servers, open a new one that starts at phase 1, and let each server work through the phases. This would mean different servers would be on different phases, but it would allow people like the OP to do what he is looking for without affecting everyone.

That kind of thinking is what ruined MMOs for the rest of us, end game scripted bosses are not the entirety of mmorpgs, if thats all you want to do then just play Devil May Cry 5. The biggest mistake they ever made was made it possible to complete the end game in the first place a soft cap should have been in from the start.
