New servers that advance the patches as they were in classic would be an ideal situation for the player base who enjoy classic. It would provide a similar experience that started in August 2019 up to next Tuesday’s pre-patch for TBC.
This would allow players who enjoy classic and want to continue to be able to start fresh with a community while being on a level playing field, experience phase 2/3 world pvp for those who enjoy it, and keeping the 40 man raid experience with progression alive. Players who enjoy classic the most would have an option to continue to play it, albeit fresh. However, near the end of phase 6, prior to the reset to phase 1, players would have the option of copying their characters to a ‘Forever Classic’ realm that already exists (sure blizzard, charge the $35 dollar if that’s what it takes).
I know this is high-level, quick thought, but without too much detail, what do you guys think about this for those who like the classic experience, yay or nay? Additional thoughts on how this could be managed? Just thought this would provide an opportunity for those who want fresh servers an opportunity to get them while also keeping a use for the ‘forever classic’ servers where it stays stagnant.
Blockquote I agree in opening up Seasonal Servers for any Era type of WoW while simultaneously having Perma ones, alongside. Upon the Seasonal Servers self-deleting themselves, there should be a paid service to save/archive said Seasonal Server Characters onto the Perma Servers, of their respective Era Types. Otherwise, when the Seasonal Servers self-delete, all the characters that didn’t get saved/archived, through the paid services, over onto the Perma Servers will go POOF. They’ll NEVER return, even when the new Seasonal Server begins, and I do hope more Seasonal Servers make their way, with breaks in between, to keep that excitement, flare, hype, etc., going. No to NEW Servers that will never self-delete and just clogging up the Perma Server Listing.
Exactly. The main draw for me to stay classic era is so I don’t have to grind the same gear, rep, pvp rank over and over. Let the people who enjoy that do so on their own server. I just want to log in and play the character I already invested time in.
I would like them to cycle the restarts. For example if they come out with wrath then when that’s done go back and restart classic. Having a 2 year cycle of new servers and patch progression of classic, tbc then wrath on an endless cycle.
Still really into this idea. Esp being able to advance on to TBCC/WOTLKC whatever or chose to stay on “forever classic” only issue is that it would probably split the playerbase up more which i think is a legitimate issue.
also blizz would have to take a hardline stance on there being no TBC-forever or WOTLK-forever servers because of the aforementioned playerbase splitting. Which would def cause people to whine. (“but I want a TBC-forever server because thats where I have all my nostalgia. why does only vanilla get a forever server” etc)
I could see the last few months of the game being dead. If everything is going to reset I have no reason to gold farm or invest anymore time into something I’ll lose. Like now I can play because I’ll take my stuff into BC, but with reset looming why would I bother?
You would have the same option of transferring your char to BC or to a forever classic server. So if that was your plan, the farming would be beneficial. However, if you plan to not do that, then yes, your point is valid other than the people who just enjoy being online and doing things.
I will continue to play on classic era servers only if there is a path to completion on them which means either making all of the events annual and limited time items obtainable again or releasing brand new classic servers to start fresh on. The only incentive I see to continue on classic servers now is for pvp because after about 500 runs of every raid you’ll have everything you wanted. After I took a break from classic last year I didn’t have enough time to complete the things I wanted to when I came back (and the events were already over). Also the release of Shadowlands when Naxx was going on in classic was not ideal for me. There just wasn’t enough time to do all the things I wanted to do in classic. I want to play classic but only if there is a way for my to experience and obtain all the things I missed out on in classic. If that will never be possible for me, I won’t play. There needs to be a path to completion for classic era servers.
How about a fresh start server where all the characters are retained, so you’ll have players with naxx gear roflstomping Rag as soon as you can scrape together however many douses are required.
So you’ll have naxx-geared people running around wearing gear that isn’t even in the game yet.
This would allow for new progression yet retain old progression. Best of both worlds. Nevermind the absurdity.
